Where will the Nostalgia lie for the next Generation?

Oblivion, Zelda: TP and maybe Skyward Sword, Mass Effect, Portal 1 and 2, Dark Souls, maybe Skyrim despite its sameyness, Fallout 3 and New Vegas, and Minecraft.
Even though games have been heavily industrialized this generation, focused mainly on sales and 'the next big thing' there are still a few gems worth replaying 10 years from now.

I think BioWare stopping the ME3 ending problem with the Extended Cut, reprinting... THAT... book, and... whatever was wrong with DA2 that pissed off the entire internet... will go down in history.
However, I'm gonna say bet that we'll see Todd Howard being executed by PS3 fanboys if Dawnguard doesn't come out soon.

Yeah I mentioned Resistance because at least it does some sstuff differently, especially the third iteration. But most of what it does really well is basically being more old school in all the right ways. Killzone is great but it's a bit less distinct except for Helghast being awesome.shrekfan246 said:
EDIT: I will have serious nostalgia for Battlefield: Bad Company 2, because my friends and I sank days into that games amazing multiplayer and forged some great memeories out of it.
If your talking about Nintendo 64 games I'm afraid it is to old for some people who started this gen I was playing Ocarina of time and my freind came up to me and said this game looks crap. I died a little inside that day.shrekfan246 said:

My guess is that everyone has his/her own nostalgia classics for each console or timeline( for pc gaming). At least that`s it for me. Ask me about the ps1 and i`ll think of Tenchu while for someone else it`s MGS. For this console generation people already listed great games i`ll surley think of if someone asks me in 5-10 years.
Thanks to better hardware and connections this is the first console generation with massive featured online play. This is something i`ll always connect with the xbox360 or ps3.

Remakes are another interesting point - can we say that some children will be nostalgic for, say, Ocarina of Time 3DS in future, or does that really count? Personally, I'd say so. I myself have fond memories of Final Fantasy: Dawn of Souls, and not the original release of Final Fantasy. What do you guys think?
This is something I've recently experienced. I've got a friend who recently got into old Nintendo titles, and who now talks about them as if it's been years since he first picked them up, when in actual fact, he's always been pretty biased against Nintendo up until lately...Elementary - Dear Watson said:

There are some games like that for me, tough I was never an MMO person I loved some games as a kid and I remember as being some of my most fun times as a kid but I can never go back to playing just because they do not work very good on new systems or the controls are so out of date and obtuse that they are simply not fun to play now that I have played games done so much better. I am sure that if I spent the time I could get them running perfect, find ways to fix graphics errors and rebind the entire control scheme but I would rather just stumble across the disk every few month when looking for something else, take a moment to remember the fun times and move on to my original task.Daniel C said:

Personally as a 98'er I found that saying that there will be no nostalgia is seeing the current gaming world from your perspective of childhood, I have no doubts that this generation will find games they really enjoy and in later years feel quite nostalgic about. This was no doubt the case for me when I went to EB games and to my delight saw "StarWars Knights of The Old Republic II -- The Sith Lords"(Huge friggin' title I know" this to me was the game of my childhood played on the original Xbox and when I started playing it again it brought back great memory's of one character or an other. So in conclusion this generation wil find games to be nostalgic about based on there early experience. in the gaming world
The problem is, is that people put older games on some sort of peddle-stool[footnote]obscure TV reference... internet cookie up for grabs for the first person to name it![/footnote]. When a game comes out it gets slated on every aspect it has that isn't directly comparable to another game at that time. For example: 'This game is great, but the driving controls are shoddy' meaning that they wern't as good as other similar titles, and 'weapon choice is limited' because there were only 12 types of gun not 24...CityofTreez said:
When people look back at old games they will instantly ignore this factor because they expect the game to be not as good. And when they remember the game from their childhood, it was from a time when you didn't care about the specs of a game, only whether it was fun or not... that is how kids can play all those TV tie in games and still have fun, because they don't care!
So at a time a game is released it could fall under the radar very quickly, but then as time goes on more and more people play it, intantly forgiving it's flaws, and then enjoying it for 'nostalgic' purposes!
So that is why your sarcasm is essentially double-barreled... each generation has lots of mediocre games, and a few classics... but when looking back after a few more generations, most of the mediocre games will look a lot better...

Heh, yeah that series too. However, Mass Effect is an IP of Bioware, not Obsidian. Still, by saying "everything Obsidian" I thought it would be assumed that whatever else that was memorable from either developer could just be inferred to be there - whatever the reader imagines. Still, nice catch; that will probably be considered a piece of future nostalgia as well.sunsetspawn said:
