Where would you have a secret base, if you could put one anywhere?

I think I'd go the sci-fi route and put my base one second out of phase with the rest of the universe.

Where would your base be?
Well - seeing as my base would be the landing point for the world's first space elevator (planning permission pending), it would have to be an Equatorial artificial island in surrounded by a coral atoll somewhere in the Pacific.

I also plan to develop mutant clams with shell-mounted "lazorz".

Right after this cocktail and a bit of a lie down in this hammock.

"Oddjob! More mango!"

Gotta be a Pocket Dimension. Who doesn't love a pocket dimension? All but impossible to locate, literally infinite expansion potential and best of all, you can get some awesome sci-fi names, like: "Subreality X-2Y+4Z+0W-9i+8" or "Voidspace".

London. The one on Mars, I mean.

Limited to the planet I'm currently living on, though, I think Australia. I wouldn't even need security. All them down-under critters would do the trick.

Superorbital space station positioned just past the dark side of the moon and perfectly shadowing the moon's orbital path around the earth. We use the majestic ol' rock as cover. It's brilliant.

It shall have passive EM shielding to keep solar rays at bay, active signal shielding to keep anything that might give us away at bay, and optical shielding to keep any chance we have at detection at bay.
It will also need the ability for artificial gravity manipulation, ostensibly to prevent us from crashing into the moon, but really because I want to be able to rip any space faring object to shreds suddenly and without warning.

That isn't to say we won't have an array of high-pressure pneumatic missile launchers, magnetic rail cannons, and an array of projectiles designed with stealth in mind. You won't find me. You don't even have a reason to look. But I'll still be prepared.

I liked Handsome Jack's giant space fortress in Borderlands 2, always watching and also, artillery barrages. I'd probably do something like that.

For some reason I fancy a skyscraper in the middle of a big city. Stylish glass and steel, and most heroes/villains look for the obvious locations - in other words, hidden in plain sight.

Slipped into cyberpunk there, which does mean 'runners are going to be a problem eventually.

MassaCorp Industries IS located on Terminus, the center world and keystone to this world and many others. The Brethren and I held dominion there because it is extremely hard to destroy.

In an abandoned whorehouse warehouse...

It's the one place where no one would be none the wiser...

"What do you mean FPLOON's secret base is an abandoned whorehouse warehouse? How is it that hard to find him?? Better yet, why is a wizard's secret base an abandoned whorehouse warehouse in the first place???"

Another option would be my own bedroom... Again, no one would be none the wiser... like Dexter's Laboratory...

Basically this [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheyenne_Mountain_nuclear_bunker] except with more luxuries in addition to the weapons, command center, and other essential military/survival equipment. You really can't go wrong with an entire mountain base thats designed to withstand nuclear Armageddon.

A realistic scenario:
Underground deep inside the earths mantle but NOT in a volcano (volcanos are unstable, i dont want lava in my bedroom). Just think about it. it would take them years to find a way that isnt frontal main gate assault, atomic bombs wont harm me, i could pretty much have impenetrable fortress. just have enough ammunition or energy for laser powered weapons at the gates and the enemy will clog their ownly way in with thier bodies themself. Ventilation could be a problem though, hence why i would use CO2 scrubbers all powered by my own nuclear reactor for infinite power with no waste to dispose off and basically not running out for years of defence if need be.
Oh and lets not forget sharks with lasers. because every base is better with sharks with lasers.

Unrealistic scenario: A large spaceship in shape of sphere (most efficient defendable form in space, borgs got it wrong actually), thats made with mithril armor with adamantium core armor layer. let me explain this one, the main ship is like a floating city, huge and menecing. however if it were to meet a force it cannot defeat, the most important personel could retreat to the "core" part of the ship that is armored in thick layer of adamantium which means they could blast a sun into me for all i care and we would still be there for as long as we had supplies.

But isn't the white house, like, an evil lair already?
Yeah, but not an evil secret lair.

Anyway, I would totally have a moon base. But I would need reliable teleporters or some other form of transport.

Well I'd be pretty stupid if I told the internet on a forum, now, wouldn't I?

I'd go for a storm-riding sky vessel not unlike the Shadow Broker's.

Doesn't that just mean everything on the base happens one second sooner or later?

Obviously as an evil genius with technology such as doom lasers and robot sharks, I possess the technology to withstand a bit of depth pressure. So naturally my lair will be a submarine base on the floor of the Marinas Trench. Almost impossible to just locate much less attack or raid, from here I can deploy my minions via stealth subs disguised as a variety of large deep sea creatures.
