Where would you hold out in a zombie apocalypse?

There's plenty of guns within my family to fight off a zombie horde. I'd head to our cabin in the woods out in the middle of nowhere, not much chance of zombies finding us there.

You wanna try to fortify the place that will arguably have the highest number of infected?
In the initial stages, maybe.
But I doubt it will after the collapse of society.
The collapse of society should an invasion take place and it not be taken care of properly society would collapse very quickly. With out the police and military enforcing the laws everything would go down hill.

Plus as Nurb pointed out and attack probably wouldn't last very long due to rotting or starving.
No, I meant that, in the initial stages, the hospital would be full of infected because that's where the sick would be taken.
But once the society is collapsed, the hospital wouldn't be any worse than any other area of high people concentration, be that a hospital, mall, cinema, police station, whatever.

Unless you leave for the mountains or a distant island, your chances'd be pretty much the same anywhere in the city, so you could as well choose a place with good supplies, back-up generators and medical facilities.
I see.

But a recommendation for you, I work in a hospital and they are not very defensible. Large windows on the lower floors, glass doors for entrances, sliding doors. At least in Malls there are the metal sheets you can slide down, not so in a hospital.
Also think of less then nice people trying to raid the hospital for supplies...

Think something you'd be able to get normally, no "Military Bunker" kind of stuff.

For me, I'd choose a hardware store after stopping by the local gas station for a few gallons of gas. Why? Chainsaws. Pure and simple.
This is a good one, though then I recalled the Dawn of the Dead remake with THEIR chainsaw, and was all "fuck that noise".

I actually think my apartment is pretty secure, depending on the type of zombie. Night of thhe Living Dead-style would never get in here. There's already bars on the windows leading to the back porch (I live on the third and top floor), I'd use the doors around the inside of my apartment to board up the front glass doors, and I have a window leading to a neighboring roof in case they manage to break in, where I'll have a jerry-rigged hang glider set up. I'd then head over to the Target and Home Depot by my house after picking up my car, tricking it out with plexiglass and shit at the Home Depot and getting non-perishables at Target. actually, I'll find camper of some sort and fortify THAT at the Home Depot. At that point, I'd get the hell outta Dodge, to coin an expression, and head between small towns, moving either due North into northernmost Canada, where it's essentially deserted, or South, where the zombies would rot faster due to the warmth.

Either that, or I'd get on a cruise ship. I don't recall zombie swimming, and we don't even need to go out to sea, just, like, fifty feet out into the water and fish/send supply boats out to sustain the ship.

I would get on a dreadnought. That would satisfy all my needs.

I'd catch the next ship to either alaska or antarctica, with a shotgun ofcourse. Because, as zombies have no body heat. They will just freeze.

I wouldn't, I would let myself get infected by the zombie disease... then hang out with the undead.
Oh, and we would do the 'thriller dance'... yeah that would rule. Society might have been in a downfall, but at least we'd still have the thriller dance.

i dont know if anyone has thought of this, and im not reading most of the thread because my brain is more than a little fried from working a 9 hour shift at wal-mart, but, i would hold out in a walmart super center, only three entrances you need to worry about, the other ones in the back are all steel doors that have no handles on the outside, and are really quite thick (trust me, i got locked out, no one could hear me banging on the doors)
plenty of food, fuel, places to sleep, water, and oddly enough, if you know where to look, lots and lots and lots of weapons, and depending on the store, GUNS, a fucking lot of them, seriously a whole backroom of brand new working 12gauge shotguns and gobs of ammo for them. so just get you and like 30 or so other people, and you have a little fortress right there.

oh and did i mention, plenty of shit to barracade the doors and other entrances with, heavy shit too, like pallets and the fucking pallet jacks, along with some furniture stil in the box, namely the TV stands and shit, whos going to need those when you have the electronics section hooked up to a few generators.

PS, if there are zombies already inside the walmart, go to the garden center, and grab the shit they have there, there are some nasty weapons in that area, just lure a few to the pitifully tiny door to there, and pick them off one at a time

I'm sure there's at least one still above water, and if there isn't, I'll have one built. Or a small ship. Whatever works.

You get the Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks.
Pretty much this,

One thing he suggest is a house, then destroy the stairs since Zombie's have a hard time climbing. This is a temporary measure but make sure you get water from bathroom's etc. as soon as possible in case it's cut off. Also you may be able to get some agriculture going if you get some soil. Thinking rope ladder to garden. Also you're going to need a katana and a carbine apparently

You've got a pharmacy, beer, petrol, bottles and matches.
and because im tall i can climb up into the rafters from the fridges
EDIT: or it had to be my mall. (zombie cleche)
I would say Asda, but our Asda has the whole front wall as a window.

And so does Tescos, Morrisons and Sainsburys ¬_¬

My escape would've always been in a boat. But the North Sea is pretty rough and I get sea sick.
