Also, it's a holiday. Generally people don't work on holidays. It's obviously not a bank holiday in America, but I assume Memorial Day is a public holiday.

Because they work everyday from 9-5? Now if they want to show me their usual schedule to prove me wrong then ok, but I do not think they need a holiday as bad as alot of other people.
