It would have been nice if there had been a notice or something put up on the main page somewhere that The Escapist was taking the day off so there wouldn't be any site updates--not everyone is American or knows about American holidays.

Totally agreed. I don't even know all the holidays in my own country, how was I supposed to know any of that?
Yes, the Escapist is US-based, but the community is very international (one of the reasons I like it).
A quick note on the news section or something would've been more than sufficient.
