Slaanesh Chaos marines is my favorite faction.

As for the 'good' guys, I'm into the Dark Angels. Resisting the Chaos temptation isn't easy (to know why, look up Slaanesh).

Tau, because it's the army I'm painting and I think their backstory is awesome. Ranged and tech? Yes please.

"For the Greater Good." Out of all the multifarious factions of the WH40K universe, the T'au seem to me to be the lesser of all evils. Not quite 100% good, but not overtly omnicidal either. And with their rate of technological progress, I think that there's a good chance they'll become pretty much all-powerful given time.

I love the historie of the Eldar and their technology

And their main weapons shots shurikens, you just can't top that

Edit: Also The Phoenix Lords are just awesome

Tyranids and orkz appeal to me. Tyranids because it was a unique idea to me when I first encountered them, and Da Boyz 'cause of dakka. I recently started building an ork army with my mate's unwanted Boyz and am enjoying the lack of uniformity. I also enjoyed cutting off the hand of one boy then regluing it sideways so he could hold it "gangster". I amuse myself with small mods like that.

Try as I might not to get sucked into the hobby, I've failed miserably and now have an Ork army of my own. Despite being fun to model since the restrictions on what they can look like is looser than other armies, I don't identify with them that much. They're all violence and tests of toughness, crushing the weak and laughing. That sounds to me like a frat boy with no moral code.

I connect myself with Eldar, in that I understand where they're coming from. They're living in the shadow of the greatest galaxy-spanning empire that's ever been, but they've fallen and are on the run from their self-created demonic adversary. They still see themselves as just better than everyone else, throwing away millions of lives willy-nilly in order to save their own skinny hides. Why not? The lower races will never experience what an Eldar can experience in a minute, but they may very well be immortal on top of that. Only unnatural deaths seem to end them.

But then there's Chaos, and while a great number of the Chaos Space Marines look and act stupid, among their ranks are people I can see myself in. Sorcerers pursue knowledge to the exclusion of all else, doing whatever horrible things it takes to get said knowledge. The Flawless Host desire to become experts in all things, immortal, beautiful, brilliant and deadly, and sometimes succeed. Would I risk torture to unlock immortality, limitless power and the reverence of billions? Hell yes! Let the sheep follow their Golden Shepherd, I'd rather be the wolf.

I love the 40K universe, I used to play the tabletop but it's too time consuming, both the game itself and I have nowhere near enough patience for all that painting. I love Dawn of War and the vast amounts of fluff though.

I'm a sucker for tragedy and I have a fetish for Elves so I have to go with the Craftworld Eldar. Ruled the galaxy, spent more time developing their fetishes than was clearly healthy, accidentally birthed a god who fed on pleasure and pain and would consume their souls upon death, forced to flee their home worlds and have basically been on the run ever since. Not to mention doomed to die because they can't reproduce fast enough but are determined to keep fighting their enemies. Their haughty, arrogant, beautiful, near-immortal, and they have the best library ever!

To each of us falls a task, and all the Emperor requires of us Guardsmen is that we stand the line, and we die fighting. That is what we do best. WE DIE STANDING.

For the immortal god emperor and the imperial guard. When the Emperor awaken either from the Star child or Saint Leman Russ returns with a cure. He will lead us again to absolute victory over all. Until then I will remain a loyal servant and i will not ask how i shall i give my life, but instead ask how shall i give my death. Weep for the heretics for there faith wasnt strong enough, but rejoice gaurdsmen for our faith in endless.

Just remember guardsmen only in death does duty end and let our end be as magnificent as Colour Sargeant Kint with his inspiring last words. "Our end is come. But what an end! We have been given the most precious gift: a chance to roar our defiance into the foes that overwhelms us with their numbers. Let the Emperor himself hear our final battle cry! Forward warriors of the Guard, and die like the heroes that you are!"

PRAISE THE EMPEROR FOR THE IMPERIAL GUARD!!!!

I love the sneaky-bastard eldar. It's a race of manipulators!

And they have the harlequin.
That's awesome by itself.

Started Collecting Ultramarines and painting them etc, but got a little too expensive at the time... might get back into it eventually ;P

Always has been and always will be the Space Marines. xD My friend reccomended I collect Space marines when I started my army of WH40K, supposedly the easier out of the races to understand. I just love the Awesomeness that surrounds them. They're so badass... xD

With the announced release of a Warhammer 40.000 MMO, the upcoming "Space Marine" 3rd person action game, and the success of the Dawn of War franchise, I thought it'd be interesting to see which race has the most love from the gaming crowd.

It doesn't matter if you play the tabletop wargame, the computer games, or if you just like the background, throw in your opinion, and let us know who you love and why.

My choice is the Imperium. It's very hard for me to select a specific branch within the Imperium, as it has been my faction of choice for nearly two decades. Since I started playing in 1992, I played with Blood Angels, and I still have them today, but the Imperial Guard, an army I started in the early 2000's, has gained my love and respect due to some stellar performances on the tabletop. I even have an aquila tattoo!

But ultimately I have to go with the faction that started it all for me. The Blood Angels. I absolutely love their background. A chapter that idolizes physical perfection and aesthetics, but which suffers from an internal flaw bigger than even some Traitor Chapters. The Red Thirst, that psychic echo of Sanguinius' brutal death which reduces a Blood Angel to a blood-craving beast.

Their recent retcon upon the re-release of Space Hulk was retarted (95% of the chapter died fighting the Tyranids?! And no-one knew that until now... uh...), but the just-released COdex brings them back to their former glory, and then some.

So, yeah. I'm a Son of Sanguinius first, and a Guardsman second. Be that as it may, my choice is the Imperium.
Imperial Guard. Ratlings specifically.

Tau Second.

Back when I started the tabletop game it was space wolves all the way, loved thier look and the fact that they opperated almost indipendantly from the rest of the imperium, functioning as packs in a very tribal way, just loved thier backstory.

Ever since DoW2 tho I've been drawn to the tyranids mainly because the idea of them fascinates me, consuming worlds for some unknown purpose, adding the dna and resources to thier own constantly evolving, they might not be as in depth history or personality wise as the rest of the 40k universe but like I said, just fascinating to me. not to mention 40 foot aliens with blade sharp claws kick ass :p
And then of course there are the two theories, each worse than the last:

Theory 1- The three Hive Fleets that wrecked everyone's shit so far and have only been beaten back at great cost are just little tiny tendrils of a much-greater force to follow and nomnom everyone, or;

Theory 2- The sudden emergence of the Tyranids en masse means that, like wild animals in a forest fire, they are actually running away from something...

Take your pick. We're all fucked either way.
So that means in your thinking, in the end of it all, the only race left will be the Tyranids?

I'm a big fan of the Space Marines myself, partly for visual style and partly because I like working with smaller, tougher groups of units. As for a specific chapter, I couldn't rightly say. I suppose I have some extra love for the Blood Ravens because of the Dawn of War titles.
Exactly the same with me, I feel i have a slightly closer connection the the Ravens because of the series.

Having read most of the Horus Heresy series I really like the marines now. Always thought they were too 2D before but that series humanises them really well.

And to anyone whos a TOTAL nerd. What was the name of the legion which turned traitor cos they believed the only way to end the civil war was to win a decicise victory and then let chaos collapse on itself? I cant for the life of me rememebr.
That would be the Alpha Legion

I'd have to go with the nids. Is is just me or do the Tyranids reminds you of the zerg?
I'm wondering which one came first. One of those races were based off of the other. They almost have to be.
