Let's put all of our biases and pre-conceptions behind us and discuss which console has the best boxes, and which has the worst. So, what are your thoughts?

Personally, I really do like the 3DS boxes. I love the overall uniformity of the spines, and the little boxes in the inside that most of the time have a picture in them are awesome. They all look really good on a shelf. As for my worst, I really, REALLY do not like the Vita boxes. They are just so small, I prefer my boxes something bigger. I also really don't like them all being blue, I much prefer either black or white instead of blue. I guess this is a side effect of a console aimed a lot at digital distribution, but still.

So we're talking about game cases?

I like the PS2 cases, they stack easy and don't break as easily as the PS3 cases.
They also fit on the shelf nicely next to DVDs.

The N64 boxes are pretty bad as they are made out of cardboard.

I too, love the 3DS boxes.
Glad you agree that the 3DS boxes are good. Well, when they're spelt right:

Sadly my case only has the logo on the side.

I agree. The PS2 cases were the only ones that ever made any sense to me. All of the others have been these unnecessarily oversized annoyances that break easily and take up too much space. I usually put the cases in a box somewhere and use a CD sleeve book to house the games I play regularly.

Edit: I just remembered that the ones I actually liked are the PS1's cd jewel cases.

Ps2. They have a slot for the memory cards . Pretty awsome . And it gives proper protection . The worst are the first ps1 cases . You remember the giant ass plastic/glass cases that would shatter under any pressure . The smaller ones were a little better but i mean the giant ones.

I don't know if the DS cases are the best or the worst cases ever made... Really good protection for a little cartridge but somewhat difficult to open sometimes and you have to pop it out of the holster thing.

I must say the 360 cases are at least functional. I pile all my cases on top of each other, leave them on the floor, stack more cases on top then stack a 360 controller, headphones, my DS and random other shit on top of them...

Everything still works fine.

PS1 cases were probably bad if I strain my memory a bit. I was quite young back then so I have no idea if they were constantly shattering or anything.

Anyway, everyone knows Steam has the best and most operational game cases! Except when you have to be online to play in offline mode... Wait what?

I really like the special edition tin cases :D

Shame a lot more games don't use them, but I suppose they're more expensive to make.

Megadrive cases rulz, cardboard boxes not so much, especially older PC games, while they did have awesome things inside them, storage is a pain in the arse. Love those PC case size boxes like the Baulders Gate collections and the original Fallout Collection that can nicely fit on the shelf next to the rest of my PC cases.

Goddamn it, Daystar's on my ignore list without my permission. I didn't want that. So I'll just post what I was gonna say to him here, since I can't quote him:

I agree, tin cases are always awesome. But, I like my game cases to be very much like eachother, so unless a console comes out with only tin cases I'll probably not buy them. I got Bioshock in the tin case and it just stood out so much when compared to my other games. Same with New Super Mario Bros Wii and 2, they're red and gold respectively. They just don't look nice to me when put in with my other, white wii and 3ds boxes.

Best: SNES. Sturdy, protective, and fits in snugly with any VHS tape holders at the time.

Worst: DS. A case less than half that size could have served as well, and it's impossible to get the cartridge back into the little plastic greaves once it's out of them. Instead of letting the cartridge rattle around in the massive case all the time, I simply use old Game Boy cases, which can hold 2-3 DS carts at a time.

Most game cases nowadays are just like DVD cases no matter what you're using to play. The only thing I hate is when they cheap out and put those stupid hole things in the middle to save money on them (MW2 and Super Mario Galaxy 2).

I hated the PS1 cd cases. That plastic breaks so easily. I open up a box in the closet with all my PS1 stuff and everything is shattered everywhere. Annoying.

It sounds to me like you're comparing the CARTRIDGES for SNES with the CASES for DS. That's not really fair. The SNES cardboard boxes ripped easily and usually weren't used. Everybody always either threw them away, or stored them somewhere while just putting the cartridges wherever they need.

Oh God, the PS1 cases were awful. Either they smashed completely or the hinges would snap off. By the time I got the next console, a good half were beyond use or were missing a cover.

PS2 ones were so much better. Barely ever broke, and having a slot for your memory card was a nice touch.

Best: Gamecube; I always liked that little armoured-hex-thingy in the centre.

Worst: 3DS, they seem really floppy with all the random holes in them.

As an aside, my hatred for steelbooks, card cases and strange-coloured cases (basically anything Mario) is as deep as the sea and filled with twice as many poisonous sharks; it looks strange having one case stick out in a collection.

The only cases I hate, are the ones with the cardboard sleeve. Such as my Fallout: New Vegas case.

I for one liked the PS1 cases.

N64 didn't even have cases. Sure, the cartridges were made of rather thick plastic, but they got so dusty.

The 360 cases nowadays are worthless. That has to be the thinnest, cheapest plastic every created. Plus, there's also the disappointment these days of opening up a new game and seeing that "manual" in there...that consists of a single folded sheet of paper that contains mostly legal info (maybe info on controls if you're lucky).

For the best cases: +1 for the DS. They are compact and sturdy.

Special mention: My Mass Effect 3 collector's edition tin case is AWFUL. Yeah, it's made of metal. But I nearly break the disc trying to get it out of the holder thing. I press down in the middle of the circle with all my might, and I still have to pry (like really pry) the disc out.

Love me some old fashioned jewel cases. Aside from that I'd say I like the DS cases. They're the first actual cases for a Nintendo handheld and that little slot for a GBA game was really nifty.

PC cases nowadays are going the way of 360 games - thin plastic, random holes. I assume it's all to cut costs.

I hate ps one cases (regular clear cd cases) because they break easily from where it folds and you're left with 2 detached parts. The disc holder also breaks easily leaving the cd loose.

I love the 3DS cases, after that probably would be the Gamecube. PS3 is also really good in my opinion, mainly because I like how most game box art look so sexy on a PS3 box.

I'm not sure what would be my personal worst. I don't really remember owning any PS1 boxes, I mostly got all my games used from yard sales and such back then so I never really owned an actual box. Probably 360, most box art looks ugly on it to me. Hate the green.
