Because VHS > DVD
Do you mind if I ask you why? I personally have an odd affinity for VHS quality, but I have never met another person who liked VHS more than Dvd.
Eh, nostalgia mostly. Few movies (Like the original starwars trilogy) just seem to belong to that-nowdays-ever-so-blurry-looking quality. Kinda for the same reason why TV still runs at 30fps eventhough other video mediums have evolved past that.

Cases on the other hand... Thats a different story. VHS cases are just so manly! A grunt like me doesnt need to try and push my fingers into the little things on the sides of a dvd case, on VHS you can grab it however and just pull with your thumbs. They can also almost fit a DVD case which is manly. Also when I was little, I built buildings for my actionfigures by arranging VHS cases vertically and horizantally to make walls and ceilings and... Nevermind
Ah, I see. I suppose it's similar for me. I was lucky enough to be a kid around the time DVD was replacing VHS (Late 90's to early 00's.) So I do remember watching a lot of movies on VHS. Or maybe it's because I'm a history/old stuff nut.

Thanks for answering. (I completely agree with the Star Wars thing. I only watch the ones from that VHS box set thing. I believe that was the last release before Georgey fucked it up.)

I really like the special edition tin cases :D

Shame a lot more games don't use them, but I suppose they're more expensive to make.
If properly made, the tin cases are awesome.

BUT. I have one clear example of one that is actually pretty shitty: The Mass Effect 3 Collectors Edition case.

Why? Because the inside, the bit that actually holds the disc, is so stubborn when it comes to taking out the disc, that it chips the center ring and stresses the disc itself. You risk breaking the damn game just getting it out! That sucks, especially when the case looks so good like that.

[EDIT]: Damn, got ninja'd by Dusty on the Mass Effect 3 case.

The N64 boxes are pretty bad as they are made out of cardboard.

Pretty much, plastic is a necessity. Though even the PS1 cases were pretty dodgy.
The long-boxes were definitely awkward but I liked most of the PSX cases since you could stick them with your music CDs if you had the right CD...display...rack. Games with multiple discs were a bit trickier like Resident Evil 2 and Final Fantasy 7 - 9. The CD-display thing I had only had 3 XL spaces for those types of CD cases so that was a bit annoying.

The PC RTS cases, you know the ones. I just love how you could open them up! You got a front cover, two 'leaves' inside and a back cover! What a great deal.

Well, the best ones to me is probably the Xbox 360 cases and Limited Edition ones, as long as it's not one of the cases that has clamps that hold your game so hard it breaks. Bioshock had a metal'ish Limited Edition casing that looks awesome but murders discs (I still have the casing because it looks epic). The color is nice and fits in with the rest of my gaming gear.

Worst ones... I don't know... think I'll throw my vote to the PS1 cases because from what I can recall, none of the games I own from them have a complete casing, most of them have been broken from just opening the games.

The 360 cases nowadays are worthless. That has to be the thinnest, cheapest plastic every created. Plus, there's also the disappointment these days of opening up a new game and seeing that "manual" in there...that consists of a single folded sheet of paper that contains mostly legal info (maybe info on controls if you're lucky).
I don't know what you do with your cases that needs the plastic thicker and more expensive, but I do agree on the manual part. I love manuals, and I hate seeing them shrinked into legal info with nothing interesting what-so-ever.
