I need an explanation for this. Tool is an incredible band.

hmm band i hate.... i gotta say chiodos. with the exception of one or 2 songs, the guys voice is simply unbearable to me, he sounds like an infant.
Too hard to explain; it's something about their music that just bores me. I used to consider them a very interesting band up until their 3rd album (Aenema is it called?), they had this funky groove going on with the rhythm section; but then their songs started getting kind of slow and way too long (kind of a drag); they kind of overdid the "artistic" image they had, they became too "artistic" for my taste let's say.

I could think up oh so many ones I hate, but the cream of the crap would have to be My Chemical Romance. Just being forced to listen to one song was like having burning hot spears jammed down my ears. (Hehe, I accidentally ryhmed.)

Aenema wasn't all that great of an album. You should listen to Lateralus, though. It's amazing. And 10,000 Days is pretty good as well.

Am I the only one that sorta likes the foo fighters? I dunno must have been my like of nirvana has made me think better of the drummer from nirvana that made foo fighters.

Motley Crue- Dunno just don't like their songs.

My chemical romance-Only like one song by them and that would be teenagers. other than that let my hatecopter begin spinning.

Papa Roach-Again I only like one song by them.

Seven Days grace-Let mah hatecopter being spinning.

Yes, I would very much like to hear your reasoning as well.

And I'll definitely agree about Coldplay. What in the bloody bumfuck are they doing playing on the Daily Show?! I want my funny interview, dammit!

EDIT: nm, I didn't read far enough. BUT, what about Pantera???

Personally I'd have to go with Avril or Gwen Stefani

I will however admit that I have questionable musical tastes myself...

My Chemical Romance
Fall Out Boy
(Insert rap artist here)
Rage Against The Machine
Led Zepplin (Way over-rated)
Nirvana (Strongly dislike grunge rock)
Coldplay because they sound like U2.

I always find these kinds of threads fascinating, mostly because of the way opinions manage to vary while simultaneously seeming virtually identical.

You've always got the pretty much constant stream of people hating Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance. I admit, I've never been quite sure of the standards people have for these bands, as I've found music from both of them to be quite enjoyable. Fall Out Boy is pure pop, but last I checked that wasn't a crime, and they have catchy hooks and clever lyrics. MCR is in a similar vein, with a darker aesthetic. Honestly, I find it hard to believe that either of these groups are particularly offensive, nor can I claim to understand the vitriol against them for being popular.

Yes, they are extremely popular bands... with middle-school and high-schoolers. I can honestly say that I've never seen anybody older than 11th grade obsessing about them, and if you hate something because kids like it... well, maybe a video game site isn't the best place for you. Speaking of which, if you're one of the people who's a) only heard MCR via Guitar Hero, you're judging the band on a ridiculously small segment of their work; likewise, if you b) only hate Fall Out Boy because of Pete Wentz... well, I hate to break it to you, but FOB isn't the only band to have an obnoxious or tangential member. Far from it.

As to the others: if you hate SOAD, I can't honestly blame you, but I do think that they have more complex and varied strong structures than virtually any other band out there, and it makes for a consistently interesting listen. If you hate Nirvana, well, fine; I don't think anybody's made that big a deal out of them since "Unplugged in New York," so it might be a good time to let go. If you hate Coldplay for sounding like U2, well, it's sorta an odd target, since as far as I know Chris Martin & co. haven't exactly stolen U2's thunder (certainly not half as much as U2 has lately) and either way, maybe there's room in this world for Coldplay's mild piano-based work AND U2's stadium sound. Just a thought.

Oh; and if you're that poster above who called Zeppelin overrated, you're quite simply wrong. Few bands have had as much influence in the sound of modern rock as they have, so regardless of whether you personally like them, you can't claim they haven't earned their accolades.

Hm. While Hendrix was more technically proficient than anybody in Zeppelin, I think Zepp's structure and technique had as much of a lasting influence as Jimi. That being said, I certainly have nothing against Hendrix: he was one of the greatest rockers ever born, without question.

Also, since I didn't answer the original question...

The only "cool" bands to whom I pay enough attention as to have a fully-formed opinion are the ones that I like, so I'm gonna go with something slightly older: the Carpenters. While certainly talented, their music hits all the wrong notes for me (pun not intended). A good band, sure, but not one I particularly feel inclined to ever listen to again.

Most hated-by-me popular band? Oh wow, is that ever easy. I even have a rant ready to articulate.

Radiohead. Not because they're the most horrible band ever--any rap "band" sounds far worse--but because most of their songs are really awful, and the few that aren't are completely ruined by the band's intolerably bad lead singer. I mean, no matter what the guy's saying, he sounds like a whiny toddler, a moaning teenager, and a squealing maniac all at the same time. I've never heard a voice that sounds as bad as his without computer modification. Add in the fact that the lyrics range from incomprehensible to incredibly disturbing, the occasionally interesting but usually repetitive and disharmonious instrumentation, and they're pretty hard to tolerate. What makes them really annoying, though, is the fact that just about everyone claims to love them and thinks their music is amazing and moving; it's amazingly bad, and makes me want to move completely out of earshot of it, but besides that I have no clue where they're coming from.

Coldplay (I LOATHE them)
I'd throw a fit over that statement, but that would correctly make me look like an idiot; and anyway I've heard it 324,765,832 times already, with similar amounts of explanation.

Oh wait, here's one I can whine about.

oh, i really hate Coldplay

innocuous safe bastard music designed for calmly trying on pants and shoes at the mall. it does not offend or try to say much... its COLDPLAY
Sorry, but I've heard this way too many times. Since when does music have to be offensive or have a clear message to be good? By this logic, you must also hate Beethoven. His music is far better than Coldplay's, of course, but I don't see your point. And what on earth is "bastard music"?
Radiohead are just a bit overrated, not really terrible. "OK Computer" is a fine album, but when an album is getting voted Greatest Album Ever within a year of its release, that's suspicious, or just dumb.
But at least Radiohead are not Coldplay. Coldplay are the most whiny, hand-wringing, limp rag of a band I could imagine. A band that says nothing orignal, offers nothing original. Their banal sloganeering on the current album is a new puke-stained low in rock stars Who Think They Are Important. It is music for people who haven't listened to music, or maybe just want to snog Chris Martin. They truly are the U2 of the noughties, but without an "Achtung Baby" to back them up. There is a record label called Kill Rock Stars. But why? Coldplay aren't even rock stars.

Ah, The Carpenters. At work I have to listen to the Carpenters. And Hot Chocolate. And M People. The most mind-numbingly commercial, suck-ass music, all in one convenient bundle of suck-assery. Thanks, Splash FM.

Led Zepp are more important than Jimi, just because they made it cool NOT to release singles and promote their albums...and still they sold shit-loads. Jimi's "sound" is not really there in music of today (however great a guitarist and icon he was), but Led Zepp's charisma and eclectic musical tastes (see "Houses Of The Holy") are here to stay.

Razorlight. They are in no way, shape or form rock. Despite this, they persist in claiming that they are "hardcore". That's right. They actually called themselves "hardcore rock" in an interview.

Shudder.
Yeah, hardcore like Black Flag? Henry Rollins would wipe the floor with those tight-trousered prats.

Now theres a band I hate for every reason ever!
As much as I agree that they suck, I'd have to argue with them being "cool". Every, and I do not exaggerate, EVERY "cool" person in my year hates them, and the only person in my year to listen to them is insulted for it.

I think the worst "cool" band has gotta be Fall Out Boy. I hate them with a passion. And their bassist posted pictures of his nob all over the net. What an arrogant douche.
