Okay... So, I was about to go to bed like how I normally do, and for some reason I couldn't fall asleep... The reason? I got curious about which direction most people slept in... (Weird, right? /rhetorical)

Now, I know this question could be as simple as answering left or right or in a direction that's marked on a standard compass, but considering I have been trying to sleep right-side up instead of my usual straight-down face-in-pillow position, I always end up waking up facing my right even when I know I fell asleep staring at my ceiling, not wondering why did I choose to sleep on the floor (again) instead of my bed which I'm technically using as some kind of arch support for my pillow...

So, Escapist... Which direction do you normally sleep in? And, as a added bonus, do you normally wake up in that same direction you slept in?

I used to sleep face up but then I learn that it's better for your back to sleep at the side so that what I do now. As for which sides I sleep at the most I think that would be my left side since that when my alarm clock is facing at.

I sleep facing away from the wall which is usually the left. If I was to sleep in a bed in the centre of the room I would probably sleep facing the left out of habit or towards the door...or maybe my head would explode. I normally but not always wake up in the same direction I went to sleep in.

I tend to sleep on my right hand side, it seems odd to some people as that means I am sleeping facing away from the door, but its how I like to sleep. I am unable to sleep on my left side.

Left or right, I turn regularly and don't really have a preference either way. Unlike quite a few people, the position of the door makes no difference to me.

Any direction. Changes every night, though my bed is kinda surrounded so I can't really tuck in bedsheets. Not a big worry though, since that same surrounding environs generally keep my blankets on the bed.

If I could do it without my neck getting weird, I would sleep chest down. As it is I sleep on my right side. The only times I've been able to sleep on my back are in the hospital after surgeries.

I like to sleep on top of my sheets and comforter, when I had one anyways. I wrap my self in a blanket, on top of my bedding...not unlike Finn on Adventure Time. Less tightly though.

I get too hot if I'm sleeping between the sheets like a letter in an envelope, and I hate making the bed, so I just use blankets on top of my made bed lol

I also get too hot to sleep with someone else in the bed, plus they typically snore or lay on your arm etc. so its just irritating. They can have their side, under the sheets. I'll be on my side in my comfy blanket burrito._.

Face up, body in the regular direction. I'm a traditionalist when it comes to sleeping.

I usually start off lying on my back, then try one side or another, toss, turn and inevitably end up face down, head turned to the right.

When I lay down to go to sleep, I normally start on the right side. I may change positions a few times over the next few minutes, though, so where I am when I start sleeping changes a lot. Given a video I've seen of myself sleeping, I rarely stay in the same position for more than 15-30 minutes, but somehow, I normally find myself on my right side again when I wake up. Maybe that is because it helps me face my alarm.

Other factors such as where the nearest wall is or where the door is doesn't affect me at all.

Always on the sides. I usually go for whichever side faces the door, so I don't have to roll over every time I wanna check to make sure the door is still closed. If I sleep on my back I get sleep paralysis and if I sleep on my front my stomach ends up hurting for some reason.

I've never understood the way some beds are pushed right into a corner and against a wall. It must make it annoying when it comes time to change the bed sheets.
Not really, you just pull the bed out a tiny bit so you can tuck the covers back in. Plus if you toss and turn a lot, being against the wall stops you from falling out of the bed. :D

I sleep in all sorts of crazy positions, it changes all the time. I didn't realise the full extent until I moved in with my ex. We'd often go to bed/get up at different times from each other depending on our work schedules, so he'd often see me sleeping, and he said I was like some sort of contortionist. Some of the stuff I apparently do with my limbs looks incredibly uncomfortable, but it doesn't seem to bother me. I've woken up in some bizarre positions too, so I can verify it's not just a case of my ex trying to freak me out :p

Weirdly, when I have a really good, satisfying, restful sleep, the kind where you wake up feeling relaxed and can just get out of bed straight away feeling great, I invariably wake up on my back with my arms above my head. I have no idea why.

Wait... "direction?"

Are we talking left-right or cardinal directions?

Do you mean position?

I sleep on my front with my head resting on my arm. This often gives me a numb arm by morning. I can have me head turned either way, left or right.

I find it difficult to sleep any other way unless I'm chronically exhausted, in which case I'll fall asleep in any damn position I can. (I once managed to go to sleep balanced on a small stool, with my elbows on my knees and my chin resting on my hands.)

I flop around like magikarp.

I used to sleep on my stomach, but now I can't do that anymore. I start by trying to sleep on my back, then roll over onto my right side, then my left side and once I actually fall asleep, that's usually where I stay. My cat doesn't appreciate the pre-sleep splash dance.

Can't say I have a particular direction. I toss and turn quite a bit in my sleep. The worst thing is ending up sleeping on arms, then they're all numb and tingly from restricting the blood circulation. Makes them feel like lead.

I start on my back usually, however most times I end up turning on my left side and sort of huddle towards the wall. Sometimes feeling like I have less space around me helps me sleep. I guess you could say it's like an echo of before I was born, fetal position and all that.

Other nights I just toss and turn the whole time. I'll wake up in several different positions. My cat, who for someone reason still insists on sleeping with me every night, doesn't appreciate being woken up by almost being rolled over on, I'm sure.

I almost always sleep on my right side (as in on my right shoulder). I know that my mother did the same when I was young, so that's probably why I do it that way.

Weird, I never tried this until now and it actually seems more comfortable. Might see if I can get to sleep like that...

Face up. Sleeping on my side may seem like a good idea but I always end up facing up in the end.

This. My sleep pattern could be confused for the Konami code.

I flip several times before going to sleep, although I have a bias to my back or right side due to an injured left shoulder.
