Does anybody seriously collect the entire filmography of a director these days? Some directors have careers that span decades, so somebody like me with not a lot of money can pick up the entire filmography of say, Adam Elliot (Harvie Krumpet, Mary and Max, Cousin, Dad, Brother) pretty easily depending on what country you live in.

Some go for Kevin Smith, others go for Scorsese. If you own the complete works of a director, share your thoughts on why you went so far to get all their films so far.

Me? I just like Adam Elliot's films a lot and he actually responded to my email about Mary and Max. That and he has a filmic sensibility to his claymation distinct from Nick Park that makes him really stand out. Nick Park is good, but Adam Elliot depicts melancholy since that's his deal.

I have so very nearly got the entire Stanley Kubrick film series, just missing out Eyes wide Shut and two of his earlier films. Everything else I've got and are awesome.

Edit: Damn Ninja'd.

Just realised I've got the full Tarintino and Sergio Leone (bar his early stuff that's impossible to get on dvd)

I'm also got most of Hitchcocks,T and Scorsese's filmography.

I own every film made by Stanley Kubrick except for Eyes Wide Shut, which is a horrible, horrible film.

I just like his style of filming, they way it remains consistent whether he's tackling war films, horror films, dark comedy, film noir, science fiction, or Georgian epics.

Of all his films, my favourite is probably Dr.Strangelove.

Actually, I also own all of Sam Raimi's films. The good ones anyway.
Add The Coen Brothers and Alfred Hitchcock to this list and I'm right there with you.

Evil Dead II is Raimi's best, Rear Window is Hitchcock's best, and the Big Labowski was the Coen's best.

And the best SK movie [i/]was[/i] Dr. Strangelove

Most of Osamu Tezuka's stuff, especially films, are IMPOSSIBLE to get on DVD because he made so darn many of them and they've never been translated with subtitles because there isn't a big enough market for classic anime like that. When I go to my University's anime club info stand and ask about whether the staff know about Osamu Tezuka I feel like what clubbers refer to as "the old guy at the club" even though I'm only 20.

Apart from anime my DVD and Blu-ray collection is really eclectic. I have Sweeney Todd and Ed Wood and The Nightmare Before Christmas (not even a Burton film technically) but not Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice and Batman.

Maybe I just like movies instead of watching a movie just because a director made it (most of the time)?

Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, and Ridley Scott. I own pretty much all of their films, good or bad.

True Romance is a vastly unknown movie, even to those who claim to love Tarantino. I got it because I saw it was written by him, and was super-excited by the opening credits.

"Directed by Tony Scott? Christian Slater? Christopher Walken? Dennis Hopper? MOTHERFUCKING QUENTIN TARANTINO? FUCK YEAH THIS MOVIE IS GONNA ROCK."

nearly the entire filmography of Spike Lee and The Coen Brothers
I haven't liked much of Spike Lee's stuff besides Inside Man. I have 25th Hour in my Netflix queue, so we'll see how that is.

I've recently come to appreciate the Coens a lot more lately. I only own Burn After Reading and No Country For Old Men, but I've seen Fargo and The Big Lebowski, apparently need to see Barton Fink, and am looking forward to the new one that just came out.

OT: I seem to own lots of David Fincher (Se7en, Zodiac, Panic Room, Alien 3), Guy Ritchie (everything except Swept Away...ugh), and Michael Mann (Collateral, Heat, Miami Vice, The Insider).

O man I forgot I own all of Fincher's films and most of richies films too. (Except for swept away and unfortantly I own that terrible film revolver).

A lot of people don't like Spike Lee I guess this is because they can't seperate the crazy things he says from his excellent filmmaking. 25th hour is good and you should see Do The Right Thing and Malcom X, awesome movies.

I have most of the Coen Brothers Films but I'm not a HUGE fan. I love NFOM and Fargo but i think Where Brother Where Art Thou is alright and i really dislike The Big Lebowski.

There's not THAT many of them, so it was pretty affordable, and I love to rewatch them, because every time you watch a Tarantino movie, you notice things you've never seen before, and the movie gets a little better, and a little deeper.
Yeah this. I got some Tarantino movie collection from HMV in December. It had 6 of his films in a nice photo album style collection, with Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Kill Bill v. 1 and 2, and Death Proof. Also have Inglourious Basterds and From Dusk till Dawn now, so w00t!
The only bad movie out of the lot is Death Proof.

I'd like to own everything Clint Eastwood's made. The problem is that he's directed over 30 movies. If I were to include films he's acted in as well, that brings the grand total up to around 70. I'm not sure I have that kind of money.

I love the guy's work, though.
