muuuuuuuuummmyy....are you my mummy?

I find somthing very creepy about old gas masks (especially the guys face morphing into one)

I have a T-shirt saying exactly that. The funny(weird) thing is that the gasmask also effects people who haven't seen it. Just something about the weird eyes... [http://downloads.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/sounds/child1.mp3]
I can't even watch half of that clip, gives me shivers just thinking about it.

Sorry but I think I'll go with the classic, the Daleks. I can't believe they haven't been mentioned to this point.

Honestly? I still get shivers. Especially considering it's Victor Meldrew.

My leg's grown back! When I come to the hospital, I had one leg...
Well, there is a war on... is it possible you miscounted?

I love the moment in the episode when the sontarans attack, when there's gas everywhere. The doctor puts a gasmask on and when the general asks a question, the doctor reply's "Are you my mummy?". I don't know why, but I just love that part.

Anyway, the creepiest in my book would be The Silence.

I think the Silence, because it's entirely possible that they could be on earth without anyone knowing...

sometimes when i'm with other Dr Who fans recently, i'll draw tallies on my arms when they aren't looking, just to creep them out...

BRILLIANT! Now I just have to find friends who know what the silence are... or Doctor who for that matter.

Ah, YouTube. For all your faults, you have some real gems.

That might be a lot more difficult than you think...

Aside that I can't stop thinking "Protoss" when I see them, I really like the concept of the Silence.

Went onto the wiki for that episode (and freaked out a bit when i say the picture for it), oddly it aired 6 years ago tomorrow.

Something that can only move when you aren't looking? Yeah, that made me sleep with the lights on for a few days. It made me really paranoid outside for a while. Season 5 kind of made it worse somehow.

The Ood.

Because they themselves are not at all monsters, something (I can't remember what exactly) makes them all go batshit crazy and demonic.
Thats a different kind of horrible, even for a Doctor Who monster.
Well the Ood have been controlled by many different things. Satan was one, House was another, a big gooey brain was another(well, sort of).

I'm with you on that. That last bit of the episode freaked me out, and it didn't help that I was doing a gig later that day and there were a lot of statues around.

The thing from the episode Midnight (still my favorite) is actually very deceivingly creepy, because you know nothing about it. You never see what it truly was, what it wanted, why it wanted anything... And it turned a group of rational people against each other so easily, and defeated the Doctor.

Yeah, the creature from Midnight is the last thing I want to deal with.
I agree, nothing more terrifying than something that can legitimately beat the Doctor at what he does best.

A lot of you are forgetting one of the single most frightening performances in the Doctors long history. For those not familiar with the old series, I both don't blame you and want to say "shame on you!" Because in my opinion there is one frightening monster whose true nature is forgotten by the viewer of today. And his name is Davros. Not the new series Davros, I'm talking about Tom Baker "Genesis of the Daleks". One only need look at this video clip. I don't mean to sound odd but he makes Adolf Hitler look like a pussy.

Most of the stuff Moffat has introduced into the franchise.
I genuinly believe he is the most talented writer working in the entire industry, when it comes to horror.
Most horror writer barely get a graps of how to fuck with the people in the show.
Moffat has mastered the art of fucking with the people WATCHING the people in the show.

The Weeping Angels scared the crap out of me in their first appearance and, surprisingly, they continue to do so even now. Steven Moffat truly is a genius of horror/nightmare fuel.

Also the Silents (or is it Silence? I never quite got that) from the new series/season. They totally give me the heebie-jeebies.

I actually found the Ood to be charming, if not outright cute. I always seem happy to see them whenever they pop up in an episode.
And then they get possessed by demons. Every. Damn. Time. I still can't quite bring myself to be scared by them, though.

As for the rest, I always found them either too cool or interesting to really be frightened by them. My curiosity and intrigue overpowered my fears.
Although that psychic space-eel monster from the first episode of series/season 5 was pretty freaky. Those teeth...
And that reminds me, the "vampires" from "Vampires in Venice" were kinda spooky, but the girls were pretty so it was more creepy/off-putting than scary.

Embedded for you.

Davros is a horror all right, but he's more of a human horror. (He was based on Hitler, so your remark has a nice double edge) I don't find him terrifying because he's just an embodiment of the worst parts of human nature...and strangely that doesn't scare me as much.

I'd say Davros is more of a horror to the Doctor than to us, because he knows that there's no way to defeat him, except for his own ego.

And you could say the same about The Doctor himself.
