God. Most fantasy settings have clearly real and active gods. Barring that, dragon. Barring that... fairy, provided they're long lived in that specific fantasy setting. Aside from that, I'd just go with something humanish that has a very long lifespan.

Yeah, become a god and then get fucked up by half a dozen of imbeciles with magic weapons and/or generic god-killing macguffin... I mean, they have at least one book on deities for D&D, with stats and loot tables =p You can even kill Cthulhu!

Who bothers with the C-List gods though? All those God-Slayers go after the big boys. I'll just avoid them and stay on my own plane.

There are a lot of good 'uns... but I'm with the OP on this. I've always been attracted to elves, mainly drows (dark elves), because of course I love to have a tan and hate sunlight at the same time.

I was just thinking, in games and the like, I've always been stragely attracted to elves! (not in some sexual way)

I realise thats coz im attracted coz of the very long life spans and the time they have to master so many skills etc

Well, it's not really that fantasy, but some humans in the star ocean series that are able to cast magic like in "till the end of time" or the ones that can adapt to harsh envrions or diseases like in "the last hope",
but to be a bit further from humanity, it'd be cool to be like sonic - super human ability, can breathe in space, and control the energy that makes up the universe to become invincible (more from the comics than the games)

Funny, I was gonna say spiral race. They're basically super humans. I'd get to give epic speeches and then kill things while being generally awesome the whole time.
