Probably marvel, but I'd become one of those people who gets in trouble trying to gain powers.

The WH40k universe. As long as I can be rich enough to own/have some status on a small ship. Tzeentch ftw.
Tamriel, because it's just a great fantasy locale.
Mirrodin (of mtg) because it was a great idea.
Creaton (of Exalted), because that was a f**n awesome idea.
Wonderland, because why not.
Whatever universe Slghtly Damned is set in, because it looks interesting.

Going to go with the popular choice and say Mass Effect.

I don't understand why people keep mentioning things like 40k or various fantasy worlds. Do you realise how likely you'd be to die very, very young? Mass Effect has better technology, better agriculture, better medicine, better everything. Assuming we're not talking about the Reaping time period (which we'll know virtually nothing about until the next game is out anyway), you're probably looking at a pretty long, pretty ideal life.

As for role, an average person on pretty much any of the major worlds would be awesome. Obviously being a Spectre would be okay too...(again, given that we're not talking about the time period of the games where Spectres seem to be dropping like flies).

My first choice would be the Star Wars universe.

Second would be Middle-Earth.

Third would have to be the Whoniverse (but only if I could travel with The Doctor).

Fourth would probably be the Mass Effect Universe.

Any of them.

Specifically, the HTTYD uni, or the Beka Cooper uni. You know, cause they get magic 'n dragons 'n shit.

Easy, Scott Pilgrim: essentially just like real-life but with little pinches of videogame logic here and there to spice things up.

Pokemon is an obvious one, so obvious that was like, half the posts.

However, I am thinking more along the lines of almost any RPG. Just having Save Points makes a universe at least 50 times more appealing. "Bet you 100 gil I can guess what number you are thinking of" then when I fail the first time I load back up and guess again. BRILLIANT!

Also if I hit enough rats I will get to shoot lightning or something.

Yeah most fictional universe's would be horrible to live in, especially the D&D variety. Lose all modern amenities with a life expectency of probably around 25, except unlike or own reality now you can be killed by some horrible monstrosity. Few people would actually be adventurers, and most adventurers would die young. Some sci-fi universes would be similar as well. Can't comment on the popular choice of Mass Effect, haven't played it yet.

The best choices are the more light hearted ones like Pokemon or Harry Potter. I'd probably trend towards an old classic anime, Tenchi Muyo (OVA series). Being a sci-fi where the leading empire is actually good, under protection/blessing of a benevolent goddess, with lifespans that span milleniums... assuming you don't get killed by some mad scientest, and clean natural technology that's almost like Avatar in space (space tree ships and all).

The universe of the webcomic Skin deep.
All myths are true and the mythical creatures hide among humans using magic medallions. That would be awesome even if I myself wasn't some mythical creature. Having one for a friend would kick ass!
