It can be anything, it can be photo-realistic or ... not, I'd give wind-waker as the example for the opposite.
Lately I've been watching some assassin's creed trailers and they look really good,(the brotherhood E3 looks amazing) and Ratchet and Clank: A crack in Time have some grea visuals when it comes to slowing down time and smashing several dozen crates.
So which game game do you think has the best graphics or is most visually appealing?

P.S. I know I'm going to get HUNDREDS of posts saying ' graphics don't matter, gameplay does ' and I agree with you, but you can't have a great game if the controls are great but the visuals are painful to look at, and you can't have a great game if the graphics are photo-realistic but the controls are horrendous(though Heavy Rain begs to differ)

yes, I am a console gamer, and I gave up on PC gaming when I relised that my computer could barely run Spore for an hour without crashing and I'm in no economic position to upgrade, but you're probably right, Crysis is gonna be the most discussed game in this thread until the sequal comes out, which is why I said 'visually appealing' as well as best graphics

WiC on max, in my opinion, looks cooler than Crysis. Given that either is out of reach of most consumers, I'll chicken out and say Super Mario 64. OK, they're not good graphics, but I think they're very visually appealing.

Usually I don't care about graphics, and I'm probably way off here, but Fable 2 surprised me enough to make me care about them.

Otherwise, I absolutely love 2.5D games and prefer the way they look, like in Baldur's Gate 2. Something about the graphics in Eidos Revenant is amazing to me too; the style of it, if that makes sense. Pretty.

World of Warcraft. The textures aren't great but the artistic direction is amazing, you can't help but be impressed by the locations in it, and Cataclysm looks to continue with that trend and make even better environments if the zone previews are anything to go by.

Yeah... for me, appealing is not realistic. Anyway... the Myst games (from Riven onwards, the first not as much) are all really breathtaking. Revelation is pure porn for my eyeballs.

Red Dead Redemption.
In most games where you travel across the map very often, it just feels repetitive and bland. In Red Dead Redemption, I was still admiring the scenery by the time I had beaten the game. It's just beautiful.

I'm currently feeling a similar, but not quite as strong way about Assassin's Creed:Brotherhood. It's just that Rome feels so real and well-thought out.

Hey, no argument from me. I've never played the game, but always hear about it as the standard for realistic and beautiful graphics. And the game is how old now?

Three years I believe. And Crysis 2 is said to look even better if you can believe that. Unless you're playing on a console that is, they turned the graphics down for consoles.
