I'll have to say Morrowind on this one.. If you remove the "fog" (which actually improves the graphic rendering because the "fog" require more GPU then never ending view range), then fly around..

Take a look at this one : )

And Morrowind don't just have sick graphics and environment, it has insane gameplay value! I've played through that game more times then any game apart from minesweeper..

(Remember guys.. this was 2002... People still thought the sun revolved around the earth.. This game is like.. Second to the Great Pyramids when it comes to human accomplishments..)

There are a lot of really gorgeous games out there so I can't pick just one.

Crysis, Uncharted 2, Gran Turismo 5, Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time, Mass Effect 2.

Every single one of those games are incredible in their own way. Crysis is the most visually advanced, Uncharted 2 has some of the best animation and environments I've ever seen, GT5 is goddamn photorealistic, Ratchet and Clank is a Pixar movie, and Mass Effect 2 is glorious Sci-Fi.
agreed, though GT5 doesn't seem to be all that ground-breaking to me, I dunno, It's probably because I'm not into racing simulators

I heard good things about Uncharted 2.

But I have to be biased and say, Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm for acctualy getting Cell Shading right and giving anime 'realism' in a game.

Crysis, especially with mods.

Kirbys Epic Yarn also looks very appealing.

Let me counter that

Spot the differences!
First picture:

The water looks different, almost as if it has clouds in it rather than foam

The lighting's different, as shown by the shadows

The mountain on the right has more ridge-things

Come to think of it, the top of that mountain on the left looks... well, shit, at least compared to the rest of that image

The valley looks flatter and there's less contrast

Second image:

The shed is in less disrepair

The grass looks like... something other than grass

The trees are placed differently

There we go: differences and the odd criticism. I will grant that it looks spectacular, but it's not perfect or better than real life.]

EDIT: Sorry, now for my entry.

Best graphics? I don't care. If forced to choose, probably that Crysis thing above, followed by Halo: Reach.

Most visually appealing?

The images are no substitue whatsoever for playing the game and seeing Homeworld bring space to life around you. The way Homeworld uses its graphics is astonishing. It's the most beautiful game I've ever played.

Honourable mention, by the way, goes to Half-Life 2 for having water effects and facial animations that hold up very well today, despite their age.

LittleBigPlanet!

Also, I think Uncharted 2 looked staggering, but it simply wasn't different enough, visually, to blow me away like LBP did.

Look good it may but are you telling me that looks remotely like real people in a real place? Nope.

I think I may be with E.v.a.n.g.e.l, PoP's reimagining looked fantastic.

I can tell your a console gamer, so let me end this right now.

Crysis on max.

It looks better than real life.
On max it doesn't look very impressive anymore, with mods however it does.

Minecraft with the AaGeOn 128X128 texture pack is pretty. Walking to the top of a cliff takes your breath away when you see the view.

Crysis is overrated. I don't deny its capabilities, but CryTek needs to look up the word "design" in the dictionary. As it stands, it's mostly a very realistic shade of green. It has never wowed me and I am a graphics whore.

My vote in these things usually goes to Trine. The entirety of the game plays in a constant loop next to the dictionary entry for "gorgeous".

Legend of Zelda Wind Waker is a close second.

The most "realistic" looking game I've played and visually liked was Assassin's Creed. And yet, Prince of Persia on the same engine still looks better.

Crysis and maybe Farcry 2 depict an idealized environment with the highest degree of beauty and graphics intensiveness.

But Arma 2's Chernarus is the most believable recreation of a natural environment in a videogame. It's literally the real world recreated, and there is a hundred miles of it.

Plenty of the other visual components look a generation behind, I'll warrant.
