It's a completely different game online, against other people. If I were going to talk about games that are tactical offline, I'm not sure I could name *any*...MikailCaboose said:I don't mean to berate on SoaSE, but all I really end up doing is forming large attack groups and the occasional defense group. Not really tactical, just a matter of outnumbering your opponent. Good game, but still...Candidus said:Sins of a Solar Empire, without a doubt.
You make a point. But that does not make it strategy, that makes it a valid multi-choice.burntheartist said:Sonic the Hedgehog 1.
Wow there hear me out.
When I think of tactics, I think of having more than one way to do something. In most of Sonic's level design there were always multiple means to an end. It was up to your choice and your play style.
Most shooters and massive multiplayer games have sort of these 'you could do this' option, but there's always an optimal way to do it and if you don't do it that way~ well you're kicked and someone who will shall take your place.
Not in Sonic. It was just you, a blue hedgehog, and some pretty gnarly pixels.
I take that you have it on console?Estocavio said:Operation Flashpoint Dragon Rising - It should be a bit harder, but its the closest ive seen to acute realism in a shooter. Now if the enemies knew how to point and shoot without dislocating their elbows and hitting the tree behind you
In all seriousness, it forces you to think and be careful.
Even if you dislike it, this is more in regard to tactics and difficulty. Or Multiplayer (Im not contradicting you, only pointing out the relevance to the topic)MrShowerHead said:Got ninja'ed here
Yes, ARMA II is pretty much my choice when it comes to tactical games.

On PC, this game is just terrible IMO. But I do have the console version and that is...playable. If we would get split-screen on it, it would be much better

Raven Shield was by far the best Tom Clancy game I've played.Scolar Visari said:I made a little list for you:
1. Operation Flashpoint Cold War Crisis
2. ArmA ACE mod
3. ArmA 2 ACE mod
4. Infiltration
5. Any Rainbow Six up to and including Raven Shield
6. All Ghost Recons before they moved to third person.
no, no its not XD the morale system is probably the worst thing in the game. its a little extreme so to say as whole armies can route with a simple cavalry charge.. my friend once destroyed me and my other friends entire armies simply by spamming Egyptian archers with fire arrows! (I was Samaritan so ideal for closing the gap and killing archers)Jefw said:Homeworld 2:

Any kind of direct charge against an experienced opponent and you'll get annihilated.
I also love that it's more timing based than rock-paper-sizor.
The morale system's great.
this you do not use squad tactics and plan out your assault you will die a quick and horrible death so fast you wont even see it coming. and even if you do plan it out that is no sure guarantee of success.Airsoftslayer93 said:Arma 2, brilliantly tactical game
I still can't believe there hasn't been a modern X-Com game that was as good as UFO Defense. We had that ufo afterlight game. It was LIKE X-COM but it just WASN'T X-COM somehow. I still enjoyed it, but I'd still rather play UFO Defense than Afterlight.Steve Butts said:Those are all great action games. For me, the tactical strategy games are even more compelling. Silent Storm and X-COM UFO Defense are two of my favorites.
