Sean Devin from the saboteur. Oh sure, Sean is about as likable as a pine-cone being showed up your rear end but i loved him. too many gaming heroes are handsome and righteous. Sean is chubby, ugly [footnote]well, not exactly ugly but he is not exactly a looker[/footnote], drunk, thoughtless and selfish. Just like most guys. The bad guy is a Nazi... and not even an interesting Nazi like the red scull or Donald Duck that one time. just a blue eyed, blond haired, supermodel built Nazi. the kind you see in the Nazi propaganda posters from world war 2. While Sean is what you didn't think the hero was, a guy. he's not special, he's not complex. He is just, a guy. You see hundreds of him every day, and that's what makes him awesome.

Kratos.

Whilst he fights some great enemies, Kratos' character, backstory, attitude and overall persona is far, far more interesting than your average bland whelp who's setting out to save the world.

And of course Laharl.

Being able to play the part of someone who views it as morally right to be "evil" is quality.
Like HELL Kratos is a Hero!!!
Even if I love the games of the series, Kratos is a major assh*le care only for himself and even if sometime we see some humanity left to him, he still murder innocent people to archive his goal......to kill all the Gods of the Olympus, which....of course HE was the villain in the first place and giving a reason to the Olympian Gods to kill him.

nd Laharl...yes, he is a "hero"...but don't let him hear you saying that ^^

I'd have to say Max Payne-- in the first game at least. I haven't gotten around to the other two. He wasn't terribly interesting, but he was certainly more engaging than the faceless organization and the batshit-insane mob bosses he went up against. Then again, since practically the whole game had his running narration, there wasn't much room for other characters that weren't Max Payne enough.

Lol.

For me Kratos is just doing what he has to and doing it well. Survival of the fittest and all that.

I love the vibe of the whole series simply because it's about strength, winning, vengeance, the law of nature and the food chain etc. In that world all that matters is power and morality is for the weak.

From that POV I think Kratos is one hell of a hero and far more interesting than most. Murdering innocents to achieve your goal is certainly more of a rarity in games than not.

He does all the dirty stuff the liberals are too weak to do. Very much like Jack Nickleson's character in A Few Good Men he was raised for War and gave his all for War. You don't breed men to kill then expect them to cuddle Care Bears in their spare time.

To me he's very much a Hero. An anti-hero for sure, but still a hero.
Ok, let just say I accept in the first game, is indeed a hero: To find a way to kill Ares, The God of War for killing innocent people for reasons [I don't remember].

However in God of War 2 [my favourite game of the series btw], Kratos do EXACTLY Ares did in the first game:
Killing innocent people!!! He is the Villain.
The other Gods warning him, but he didn't gave a damn [like Ares of course]. Of course the next step Zeus took is to kill Kratos.

Also Kratos don't even call himself a hero, he always see himself as a slave. Doing the deeds of the Gods Just only to get rid off his nightmares. NOT for the people that need help.

Finally, in God of War 3
He literally kill an innocent woman just to open a DOOR!!!!!! A MOTHERF*CKING FREAKING DOOR!!!!!!!!!!

So.....no...he is an assh*le.

*an assh*le I love of course :3*

Max Payne becomes a depressing arsehole (well, a bit more of a depressing arsehole) in 3. I've watched videos and friends play it, and he just makes the experience less enjoyable. I did like him in 1 though.

Within the game I'd have to say Final Fantasy's Zidane as opposed to Kuja. He's not just optimistic and swinging for optimisms sake or to be a flat out douche. He was a guy who just loved adventure and life and I feel a lot of the emo-teens that disliked him back when FF9 came out missed that his positivity was strength despite the fact that he had no real family or connection besides the group. The boy had a 'bourne ultimatum' revelation about his real purpose for Gaia, was questioned about the futility of all existence like Neo in the matrix, and he dealt with it. You needed an independent, glass is half-full character for that. When Sephiroth toyed with Cloud about his origins the guy broke down entirely.
Which is actually why Zidane is my favorite fictional character ever :) So obviously FFIX would get my vote too for this topic!

Aside from him... I actually can't think of anyone aside from him at the moment 0.0 I can think of some who are entertaining but not particularly interesting, and vice-versa but Zidane is inspirational levels of awesome.
