RTS: Rome: Total War (#1 overall)
TBS: Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri (#2)
WRPG: Fallout 3 (#3)
City-builder: Tropico (#5)
Trading simulation: Port Royale 2 (#11)
Life simulation: The Sims 2 (#15)
JRPG: Final Fantasy VI (Unranked)
Sports: Tecmo Super Bowl (Unranked)
Shooter: I've never had an FPS even sniff the rankings.

no.1 - you were trolling. Claiming such a statement as if it's fact, rather than you're own opinion, encourages flame wars and we don't like that shit here.

no.2 - think of it this way: yes, Halo is a generic shooter in today's terms, but that because everyone else copied Halo.

Unreal Tournament may have come first, but it didn't fair as well on consoles as it did on PC - Halo was, arguably, the first FPS to really work on consoles, and that makes it unique.

OT: I'd say Half Life 2 (+ episodes 1, 2 and hopefully 3 when they finally release the bloody thing) in the FPS genre. Sure, Halo brought the whole experience to consoles (as I've just argued above ) but, in my opinion, Half Life 2 is better because of it's story - the characters are incredibly likeable, the setting and plot is creative, and the general feel of the game is just great.

OP: Starcraft II is the only RTS that nails the RTS aspect and brings many more party favours into play. It didn't just surpass, it went beyond.

Actually I agree with the Halo statement. There is very little that actually sets it apart from a lot of others. It is however a highly polished game.

Best TBS - Jagged Alliance 2
Rpg - Planescape Torment
Fighter - Soul Calibur 3 (before 4 screwed move buffering and ruined the flow)
Adventure - Longest Journey
