I'm so exciting about finally getting into the Army! Although it leaves me with a small "problem".
I ship out at the end of March and that leaves me about two months to play through pretty much just one (MAYBE two) games of my choosing.

So my question to you fellow gamers out there is this: out of these six games/game series below, which of these do you think deserves to be played through the most?

1. The Baldur's Gate Series
2. The Mass Effect series
3. The Deus Ex series
4. The Witcher series
5. The Neverwinter Nights series
6. Alpha Protocol

I wouldn't sweat it. Boot Camp will probably leave you with very little spare time (it did for me), but once you are past those initial three months or so you will see that you suddenly get quite a lot of free time. You'll have plenty of time to get through them as long as you make sure to bring a decent laptop with you.

Doomsdaylee is right. I couldn't possibly just sit here and play videogames the whole time. I'd get cabin fever in about a day haha! But yeah I have time I figure to only do one and they're all so good it's left me dead locked.

I'd vote Deus Ex for being the least time-intensive. I'd recommend not spending more than an hour a day gaming if you're shipping out soon, the lifestyle change will be enough of a shock to your system without being used to sitting around playing games for hours at a time. I recommend more social activities... make some good memories, eat well, get plenty of exercise... and consume media only in moderation.

...and if you're joining the army, don't call it boot camp... the drill sergeants hate that. You're not a marine, it's basic combat training... basic for short.

Well, you certainly don't want to be in bad shape....and there will be some who are. I was in the best shape of my life when I went in, actually qualified for the special services (they had a course we all ran and I came in 3rd), but was disqualified due to my depth perception not being up to par.

I'm sure that boot camp is different to some degree for each branch, but if it's at all like what I experienced you'll have plenty of other stuff on your plate to worry about without having to deal with your body being out of shape. We had to guard our doors at night, and had to wake up often, you get up super early as well, so lack of sleep can wear you down. That can be quite hard during the day when you have classes (often after eating). If your eyes close you have to (or at least 20+ years ago) stand in the back of the class for the rest of the time (I avoided that due to not being able to sleep easily my whole life....only time that has been a blessing).

Honestly the first 2 weeks are the "hardest" and it's not that bad if your young and in shape. It wasn't "fun"...and I was tired, but...there was plenty of decent food...and it was actually less dull then most other times in the service (your usually doing SOMETHING).

Unless things have changed radically though, you won't be playing any video games while your there lol.

As far as which game/s from the list you should play, you have both FPS and RPG games on your list...and hybrids. I'd say go with the hybrids if you like both genre's, so go with Mass effect, Dues Ex and if you can Alpha protocol. Neverwinter can take up all your time by itself, so hold off on that, balders gate is old school...and later you can play it on an ipad or something from anywhere...so hold off on that as well. The witcher is hit or miss for alot of people, it's more pure RPG...and can also take a very long time if you really enjoy the series. If you already own it...you could try it and see if you love it....but I'd go with the others first.

Also, based on what you seem to like, if you have an Xbox (which it sounds like you do...based on Mass effect, you might try a game called Too Human. It's a bit of a hybrid RPG/action game....and one of my favorites although not everyone liked it. It is available for about $20 on amazon...not sure i fyou can get it at game stores anymore.

Back to the fitness, I would run every day, and get used to waking up early. Video games may actually be a good way to train yourself to deal with less sleep if your used to sleeping 8 hours. You might consider dance dance revolution or a game like that to get your fitness level up more as well. Not sure of your age etc...but I just played alot of sports when I was young which took care of the problem for me.

I'm not sure how much boot camp has changed but when I went we had 1 person try and commit suicide in our flight, and 2 others bugged out (one said he was a homosexual and I guess described things that where graphic enough that they let him out, the other I think they threw in the CC...been like 30 years). Some people do have a hard time with boot camp, so just be prepared. It's not really hard, so....I think...if you have your head on straight when you go in, are in fairly decent shape, and don't cave under pressure/stress right away normally, you should be fine. After the early part of boot camp and through much of the training you may be LESS happy due to having to wait around so much and do nothing. That was my least favorite part. It may not be so bad anymore with so many portable ways of entertaining yourself, but you may not be allowed to use it. Even at boot camp towards the end I ran as a courier around the base and would literally just have to wait till something needed to be delivered.

Anyway best of luck to you.

None of these are made by Nintendo, so I can't base this off of stop being a fanboy, 144

If they all appeal to you, then play the one that you think more people in the boot camp will have also played. Probably Mass Effect, but I'm mostly guessing.

I'm in a similar situation right now. I ship off to basic at the tail end of February, and my back log of games is becoming more an more obvious.

I'd personally start with Mass Effect first seeing as it's the most popular, meaning the people you train with may have played it and you'll have something to talk about with them. It's also a very solid game and seeing your choices play out over the course of 3 games is marvelous.

You think you're going to be able to play video games in basic training? HAHAHAHA yea that's not going to happen buddy get as much game time in beforehand as you can and do some exercise as well so you aren't THAT guy in basic. My vote goes to Mass Effect.

Deus Ex is what I'd go for if it were me. The original and Human Revolution are great and Invisible War is actually pretty good too, just simplified because they wanted to put it on consoles.

You misunderstand my original post. I mean in the time I have before shipping out.

Ah, I read the later post which sounded something like you were going to have time off in basic. Nevermind though. Still, play Mass Effect.

I'd recommend skipping Baldur's Gate 1 and just playing 2, its easily one of the best RPGs I've played. The original Deus Ex and Human Revolution are also both very good, though I haven't heard much positive about Invisible War. So I guess my recommendation would be BG2 and then Deus Ex 1 and HR, though if you're a stickler for graphics then Deus Ex 1 will probably bug you.

I'd recommend Deus Ex. Also take some time out to do some PT on your own, while the initial tests aren't hard, Drill Sergeants also love to inflict PT on you at random moments, and that shit is hell if you're not in a decent amount of shape. Also advice, if you can keep off your Drill Sergeant's radar your entire cycle to the point where they never address you as anything but Private you did damn good. DO NOT kiss ass or stand out. Wait until you're out of BCT before you excel at things because you're not going to get much out of that and end up with a reputation of being a suck up. And don't volunteer.
After BCT you're free to do whatever but in BCT you're there to learn, keep your mouth shut and get your ass kicked physically and mentally.

Deus ex or Baldurs gate depends if you like epic fantasy or if you prefer sci-fi conspiracy.
