You should add "The online is free BECAUSE it's shit" to your fact list about the PS3. I own a PS3, Xbox 360, and a gaming PC, and majority of my gaming is on my Xbox 360 due to the exceptional service that is Xbox Live.

What exactly do you plan on playing majority of the time? If multiplayer doesn't matter to you, then it sort of alters what you need from the console.
I really dont mean to start a war here but I dont see the difference between xbox live and PSN, XBL costs and PSN doesnt.

Why do people think XBL has better support?

EDIT: I have both systems so im not a fanboy of one of them.

EDIT EDIT: Get a pc, they are much better

One thing I notice with a PS3 is when a new game is installed and the machine wants to update as well...It takes FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRR to be able to start playing. 360 doesn't seem to have this problem. I would look up both system motion contrl devices coming out "soon" to see if they have an influence on your decision.

If your limit is $1000 for the PC. Even if you build it, for $1k that PC will not last long. You could always take that $1k limit and buy both consoles and their best games to boot.

So I'm thinking about getting a game system, I've got a Wii, but it's a Wii, so, yeah. What do you think I should get? A gaming computer, Xbox 360, or a PS3. Here's a list of preferences and facts. If it's over a $1,000 then I probably won't get it.

xbox 360
-I will never ever ever pay for xbox live, ever, and I mean it.
-There aren't any exclusives I really care about that much.
-Controller fit my hand pretty well (don't laugh)
-the community
-it uses voice chat a lot, which is nice
-it uses voice chat a lot, which is bad

PS3
-Good exclusives
-It has blue-ray
-I'm not used to the controls
-FREE ONLINE!
-It's more powerful
-I can't tell the difference in graphics between it and the xbox 360
-I think it's mandatory installation

PC
-has a lot of good games
-good communities
-endless modding possibilities
-there are OS and virus issues
-it's exspensive
-fricking compatibility...
-I can't build a PC

Mac
-they look cool
-no problems with malware
-soooooooooooooo expensive
-mandatory installation...
get the pc. viruses are NOT as big a problem as you would think. its not expensive. compatability is not an issue. and you dont even have to build the pc yourself you hire people to do it for you. and the xbox live and play station network community is HORRIBLE. and frankly if you wont pay for xbox live dont buy anything that is multiplayer(by the way xbox live fees go torwards the servers for developers so YOU can have better qaulity servers) and bluray isnt as impressive as people think it is.

Well, looking at it from the games, it's really no different. Atleast not noticeably. However, the community features of Xbox Live are what makes it much better.

Parties, private chat, and whatnot. Everything moves very smoothly, you can be in your friends list, hit X to join session in progress and party, and next thing you know, you're playing with that person while talking to them in their party.

Xbox Live feels like a well oiled machine. Playstation Online could use some tinkering.

Uh? I have a Ps3 and i have never had a problem with online.
It's not as good as the 360's though. Fact. PS3's also seems significantly slower in some cases.

I'd go for a PC if you can afford a decent setup, otherwise go for a 360.

Thats alot better to what everyone says. Whenever I usually ask, why is XBL better, they just say "cause it is". Ive never really noticed a difference.

I've been playing on Xbox Live for almost four years now, and I just bought my PS3 back in May. I noticed a difference once I jumped in. Some people don't mind PSN, and that's good for them.

Xbox Live has spoiled me so I'll never be able to appreciate PSN, even if it is free.

I would recommend a PC, but seeing as you've got money constraints, go with the PS3. you've only got one con for it anyway, and you'll get used to the controller, just as i got used to keyboard and mouse when my 360 broke. (oh, that's another con for the 360: breaks often).

I have a PS3 and a 360 and i play my PS3 way more then my 360. so much more my 360 hasn't been turned on in about 3 maybe 4 months. as where my PS3 was last turned on, on Thursday (I've been really busy sense then so no time to play). I'd suggest the PS3. as far as that voice chat thing. it is lacking on the PS3 the only people that really use it are groups of people that are familiar with one another. which is nice because the racist shit talking 12 year olds of XBL can get to be to much. so...yeah PS3

Quick note on the community, the PSN lot are just as bad as the 360 lot, the only reason it's not as noticable is because less people own the headset. The PC is EVEN worse because you can't mute text - I just got off a Battlefield Heroes game where the entire text box was full of "LOL" "LOOOOL" "LOL" "PWNT" "LOL".

Both actually make the 360 group seem like literate saints.

I'd go with PC, it has a wide variety of games, and can be used for work as well. Do not get a mac though, very few games work on macs.

Okay, I don't think I was clear on the kind of games I like, so here it is.

-fps
-tactical shooters
-western rpgs
-adventure games (prince of Persia, sands of times series)
-city-builders/rts
-rhythm games (guitar hero)

Stick with the PC or PS3 depending on what games you want. 360 exists for people like my step brother, who play a shooter for an hour a day maybe, if they're bored with their snowboards and myspace, and still whine and complain about the Wii calling themselves gamers.

PC has a lot more titles, but PS3 has some fun exclusive titles, one of which i'd recommend is Disgaea 3. PS3 also plays PS2 and 1 games.

PC plays everything predating the gamecube.
Well aren't you fucking cool, stereotyping millions of people into a single category. I play games all the time and my favorite console is the 360, because of the massive library of games that is available to me.

And exactly what exclusives are you talking about? You mean Ratchet and Clank? Because that's the only one that comes to mind that I find fun.

PS3 is not a bad console, I did buy one after all, but you're being overly dramatic.
Its hard not to stereotype when you know 8 people who have a 360 and all of them are like that. And for that matter, i don't see how its any different than stereotyping someone who bought a wii for games like fire emblem as a "casual gamer", yet that seems perfectly acceptable.

I'm fairly certain so called "casual gamers" had no clue what Fire Emblem was until they saw it in the store (I actually find Fire Emblem to be quite enjoyable). I believe you're just repeating something you heard some other retard rant on about in some less intelligent forum and have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

Before you go around stereotyping large groups of people into single categories, you should learn what the fuck you're even talking about. Xbox 360 is widely accepted as the most balanced of all the consoles, giving people lots of choices about what they want to play. So, for every eight 360 owners that play Halo for an hour and then go play football (or whatever), there are atleast twelve others who are spending all day playing Fallout 3.

Basically, know what you're saying before you say it.

you know, i'm really getting sick and tired of these threads. Its as if people have suddenly lost not only the common decentcy to use the fucking search bar, but also seem to be void of the ability of making a decision all by themselves!

Just once I'd like to see someone make a thread about "I decided and bought a Wii today, do you think I made the right choice?". It is still a stupid topic, but for the love of god, at least they showed the mental capacity to make a simple decision that only effects THEMSELVES.

Hey Feather240,

From my personal experience (I have a PC, Wii and 360) I would recommend a PC wholeheartedly. The reasons, in addition to what you put, being;

-Server browsers (Consoles tend to just chuck you into any old game rather than letting you choose)
-Free internet!
-Graphically superior (Obviously depends on GFX card etc but most PCs that cost £400-500 are)
-360 controllers work on most newer PC games.
-The same games on PCs are cheaper than on console, often by upto 50% (also they look better as mentioned above).
-Is the most customisable system of the lot. Any wallpaper, theme, case that you can imagine can be had.
-Proper internet browsers.
-Backwards compatibility.

The PS3 is a good system but if you really want to see what gaming is all about you'll get a PC, get BF2/2142 and jump into a 64 (or more) player game on maps that any current gen console would die trying to render.

Whatever you choose I hope you have fun with it.
