Now of course, this isn't a MMORPG, but rather an MMOFPS

I was very sad when people stopped supporting City of Heroes/Villians. I always thought that had so much potential. So many another online Superhero RPG, one that doesn't suck this time please.

And oh yeah, that pokemon idea is brilliant, but I dont think Nintendo needs to make anymore money with pokemon.

Although everyone may call me lame, I reckon Pokemon could really work as an MMO.
Should have suggested this earlier. Wii has replaced pkmn as nintendo's "all ages" series. They had to chose between $30 games with $30 hardware additions(link cables etc) requiring roughly 24 months to manufacture or $60 games with hardware additions as expensive as the console itself that they can spit out every other month(or every 5 weeks if they just stop pretending to care about their original fans and code the thing in engish immediatly).

Fallout! It already has an awesome huge world, a bunch of character classes, NPCs, etc. Would have to be expanded, of course to allow for more people, but Fallout!!!

I think any world that is expansive, has many well-defined characters, and includes many story lines would be great. I think that's what made SWG such an easy win and worked out well for WoW.

Fallout would definitely be my pick, though I can see it being difficult to make enough unique player characters (it's not like the original gave you a lot of visible customization options), though that's easy to tack on. It might also be somewhat boring because most of the world looks the same, i.e., desert. Some common MMO themes, like walking the whole way between areas, would require some sort of reworking (perhaps some kind of insta-travel; time-continuity be damned).

I didn't follow the stories much, but I know that Dune is an expansive universe of canon and characters. Certainly it could make for a good MMO.

Honestly though? I'd rather not see any more MMOs that are Hollywood-style rehashes of existing canon. Let's start fresh with a whole new world, new characters, and new stories. Living out your favorite fantasy isn't the same thing as exploring an entirely new world.

Call me a fanboy if you want to, but I really think Spira from FFX would make a killer MMORPG, you have plenty of flexibility with races and classes... plus who doesn't want multiplayer Blitzball and Sphere Break?
That would probably be pretty dicking awesome.
Although I'm always put of MMOs because of the Pay-per-month thing, so I would probably end up never playing it.

I don't like the series anymore, but a few years ago I thought Naruto would make an awsome MMO.
I still think it would, just not something I would play.

One game I think would be good as an MMO (because it technically kindof is) would be "The World", the MMO where the game DotHack takes place.

fully customizable characters, awsome monsters, weapons and magic, and a HUD that is in no way like WoW.

Also, Ovan is the coolest thing out of Japan since Dan Smith.

I agree. COH/COV was fuckin A. To bad al those dumb little retarded 10-12 year olds started playing WOW. God I hate those short attention span idiots. Also nerds were to blame for the gold mine of COH being abandoned. Cause nerds like fantasy better than gold old fashion American(and sometimes Brittish) super heroes.

1) Half Life 2 would be great, living under the Combine, choosing to join the resistance or fight for the Combine. Maybe play as a spider-crab? SCUTTLE.

2) Jagged Alliance. Players play mercenaries involved in conflicts all over the world. Team up or end up fighting each other. Befriend locals, overthrow dictators or help them into power. Basically JA2 on a global scale. Godly.

3) Jade Empire. I find it hard to believe that no-one has thought of making an MMORPG set in ancient China.

4) Deus Ex. Nuff said.

5) Yager. So many people seemed to have missed out on this little gem, but it'd make a really good MMORPG. Pick a starting nation and fly for them, engage in dogfights and then chill out in a flyers bar.

6) Grand Theft Auto. I've been waiting for them to do this since the original GTA. Everyone starts as a minor criminal. Successful missions increase your status with a gang as well as increasing your money. As you increase in status in a gang, you can take control of an area, and choose the missions for the players in your area, or maybe just stay freelance, playing for all sides.

7) Crimson Skies. Very similar to Yager, but I prefer the setting. Who wouldn't want to play a character in an alternate 1940s? Be an air pirate, preying on cargo Zeppelins and avoiding local militias. Join the nation of Hollywood and fly for their militia, conducting raids against dastardly air pirates and defending cargo. Lose your plane to a friend in a poker game...

I agree pokemon would be a good MMO if it is done right. I mean, if it was really big im pretty sure it would be a great game.

Other games that would make a good MMO are Fable (will prolly happen)

But my faveorite idea for an MMO is an all new game with a warfare system that the places that are captured ingame are held until taken by another army.. i hope someone makes a good one like that

I'd like a war torn battlefield where you play as the leader of a interstellular merc team that goes into massive battles for money, new gear, weapins, and other stuff. You can also go against other players if the've talked to the people who's against the company that hired you.

The missions ranging from quarintine, take over, conquer, and some fetch quests that reward the most money out of any mish becasue of the duration of some of them. That would be fucking a!!!
i whole heartedly agree
Uh, it's called Planetside. Pretty close to what you described, and it failed completely.

wat.

I'd like say that S.T.A.L.K.E.R., especially with Clear Sky's supposed dynamics, would be a sweet MMO - and it could, just maybe, with a load of tweaks and balancing. The various factions already set up the PvP element, and trips deep into the zone facing off with new, massively powerful mutants and fighting Monolith would offer endgame PvE.

Made by Cryptic, same company that produced CoH/CoV. They sold CoH/CoV to NCsoft and were originally developing this as Marvel Online, not sure of the specifics but Marvel backed out on the deal and they picked up Champions.

Another idea.... Golden Sun Online

Think about it, you choose your clan, create your character, then after a brief tutorial type campaign, get to create a djinni to use as your ally for the rest of the game. Start off with Angara and Gondowan, add the islands in expansions and eventually the world beyond the Ocean... yeah... 'twould be awesome, and Psynergy could create a unique multiplayer combat system. Anyway, I'm rambling, just seems like such an exciting idea all of a sudden.

I agree. I'm honestly getting sick and tired of seeing MMOs based on old IPs. WoW, SWG, FF(sort of), AoC, WAR, and probably some more I'm forgetting. Hell, even games like PotBS are based on historical events.

I guess I understand why developers are afraid to work with new ideas. Most of them have failed and even some of the "new" ideas are based on previous games. I really just think the MMO community is growing more and more stagnant. I blame SWG.
