I think by definition, games that killed the series are games that DID kill them, no one has released them since then!
If you want to argue semantics, then you could make a good argument for this. So, let me rephrase it for you:

Which game(s), in your opinion, killed your enjoyment and/or the spirit of the series? Or perhaps did a game in the series jump the shark?

Raiden, unfortunately killed the great game that is Sons of Liberty. When I played it through I was close to tears the entire time, because all I could think was "Oh, God! Why?! This is the end of MGS..." Enter Snake Eater. A perfect example on how to pick up the pace after a small hiccup.

However, after playing through Sons of Liberty after Snake Eater, I can say that I actually enjoy it. The whole surreal feeling to the story really sets it apart from most conventional games.

That'd be like adding Cloud Strife because Final Fantasy was once upon a time on the Nintendo console.
That actually sounds like an awesome idea to me. Anyone else agree?
No. Ten thousand times no.
Agreed. Besides, Cloud HIMSELF wasn't on a Nintendo console, while Snake and Sonic were. Now, Simon Belmont would kick ass.

It's become pretty clear at this point that the buggy, unfinished, consolized, feature-starved and undersupported mess known as Unreal Tournament 3 has brought an end to the glorious UT franchise.

Well, now looking at it that way:
Halo - I saw the original Demo of the strategy game it was supposed to be, and it was awesome. Nothing cooler than watching that physics demo paired up with wild huge battles. INSTEAD we get a Sci Fi "refrito" of anything alien they could think off.
Metal Gear Solid 2: It began SO cool, so awesome... and suddenly, before you know it graphics start looking like crap and a whole load of bullshity and overly comlpicated storyline starts to take place. Im not trying to find codes in the bible, I want to play a GAME.
Mario Kart Wii: Death to competitive play! When finally Double Dash brings something new to the genre, MKW comes in and thrases everything by making noob-dashing possible. Come on, it wasn't even that hard to learn how to do it.

Ok, can we all please stop listing the first game in a series? The point is to name a series that you guys actually liked up to a certain point.
