How do you compare a first person hack and slash sorta styled game to a somewhat RTS RPG?

Honestly I don't know, me personally I hate the Elder Scrolls series mainly because a friend played it for a year straight and drove me nuts with it.

Dragonage I'm still figuring out when I get the chance to play it here and there. But it's a fun game and the conversation is a lot more engaging than anything the Elder Scrolls series ever did.

I love RPG's so much, but i am still weary over which is better of the two.

The elder scrolls is an awsome game its self, it has not redifined the rpg genre, but set a new one for its self.

Dragon Age takes rpgs back to basics and it is such a allround good game.

What do you think is better?
Elder scrolls, they will always be the best RPG's
even back when morrowind came out it was the best RPG.
Dragon age ogrins is a step back, theres nothing new for RPG's in there.
Except good voice acting and story.
I remember the dragonage fans wetting themselves about there being some "Famous" poeple doing the voice acting but I remember thinking "big deal" little big planet has Stephen fucking fry that mans a god but it does't make the PS3 sell more just because of that.
90% of the time I just skip the talking anyway quicker to read...

as for the story same kinda apply's, 9 novels of text, If they cut some of that out there might be room for more game play ?

Aw crap. Thank you, you just keyed me in on something I completely missed. I don't know why, but I had Dragon Age mixed up with Demon's Soul's. Consider this a contraction for what I said earlier, man I feel stupid.
Doubly so: You should have said 'retraction' not 'contraction'. *Nit pick*

Morrowind>Dragon Age=Shivering Isles>Oblivion.

In that order.
Freudian slip. My wife is due in a week.
Congratulations :) Hope s/he get's born healthy 'n' smart 'n' strong 'n' shizz.

DA:O just has the story going for itself, while TES (III & IV, anyway) has the gameplay, and the excellent moddability.

Personally, I really hated the gameplay in DA:O, although I didn't get very far. Going to try to get into it again when I'm no longer hooked on Dwarf Fortress.

DA:O character development was pretty cruddy too, if you ask me. At least in NWN you get to numbercrunch. Here you get to allocate some stat points, pick a combat move and maybe upgrade a skill, and you're done.

I like Dragon Age Origins better. The only thing that annoyed me is having to fight ogres alone. It often led to scenarios in which all I could do was watch helplessly as he picked up my dwarf and beat him to death. Not fucking fair BioWare!

Hmmmm... Oblivion.. Have it. NWN, have it (althought not in the question but still it has been brought up). Dragon Age: Origins (have it). NWN was awesome to me but I have to agree on the, crappy ending and so on. Oblivion, well I did spend over 700 hours on it with the Shivering Isle and Knights of the nine Addon with one character. And DAO does have it's flaws. You have to consider the time NWN has been available to us and the time DAO hasn't. Funny how this came out as being a competition between two games by the same company.

Yes Bethesda has created a vast world for us but it does have it's flaws. Bland characters and so forth. Don't get me wrong, I love Oblivion and Morrowind (If those are the ones meant in this). But my love for Bioware is greater. Only because their games have appealed to me more. DAO is the spiritual follower of NWN (even if you don't like it). This is the road they chose for this game. I have no complaints.

Bottom line: DAO over Elder Scrolls by better driven storyline and better characters and the feeling that your actions have impact (I just love that shit).

I'm playing Dragon Age right now, and I played Oblivion a couple years ago and still bring it out again now and then. There are different things about both games I love, for example in DO:A, the character interaction is far superior to Oblivion, but so far, I like the gameplay of Oblivion a lot better. It's one of those games you can play for hours on end. I'm still in the middle of DO:A, so by the end I could change my mind, but right now Oblivion has the edge. Maybe I'm just bad at video games, but I'm actually finding DO:A (PC version) quite difficult even on the normal difficulty, but I guess I'll see how that plays out by the end.

I enjoyed the actual GAME part of DA:O more. The world in the Elder Scrolls is, however, better realized. You get a sense of scope, scale and history and Elder Scrolls and that feeling didn't really come through in DA:O.

I spent more time with the Elder Scrolls myself, but DA:O is damn good.

In answer to your question, neither. Never Winter nights 1 for the win!
gonna have to agree on this one, never winter nights is an amazing rpg, the second one never happened so just ignore that. out of your two choices though i'd have to go with elder scrolls anyday

Dragon Age: Origins got really repetitive really fast. I tried to play through a second time and couldn't finish. That's not to say I didn't enjoy it the first play through because I did. The Elder Scrolls is a series, so it depends on which one you are talking about. Morrowind literally shits all over anything Dragon Age: Origins has ever wished it could be. It has the most generic setting and storyline that a fantasy game could possibly muster. Evil dragons commanding evil armies coming to take over the world... gripping. But wait you get to play the hero! And theres like dwarves that sound scottish and elves and stuff! To say that Oblivion was "talentless drool" is absolutely ridiculous, but I agree it was much more 'generic' than Morrowind and Daggerfall.

better lore.
Hahahahahaha. Sorry had to get that out of my system. The Elder Scrolls lore is some of the most extensive in gaming (you have clearly only played Oblivion and didn't read any in-game books, it's also clear you have never read any Elder Scrolls lore in general). Lord of the Rings lore, err I mean Tolkien lore, errrrrr D&D lore, errrr Dragon Age: Origins lore is, well yeah you get the point.

edit: Thread necro.

Dragon's Age mytho's are drawn out better
Have to disagree.

Morrowind's universe is probably the most complex in gaming, communicated in an almost incidental way.

Just looking at Dragon Age trailers made me hate the setting and story.
