Which is the better buy, Modern Warfare 3 or Battlefield 3?

Neither.

Stop playing 'modern' games because they're popular. They're trash and reflect poorly on what can be done with games.

In Modern Warfare 3 you will spawn, start running, see some guys, shoot at them, call in a helicopter or airstrike maybe and then shoot some more dudes.

In Battlefield 3 you will spawn, look out over the huge fucking map, pick a vehicle to get you to your objective, you will look around some more, see a tank battle happen on the field further away, see dogfighting up in the sky, see a sniper duel being fought out over the distance of 300 meters, see a medic desperately trying to save his squad after a mortar hit. Then you will disembark, check your surroundings, see something move in the window, blow out the entire wall of that building and get your first kill. Some time after you will die, then spawn again in, perhaps, a fighter jet, or a tank, or a helicopter and do all that awesome shit you saw at first for yourself.

Do you have alot of friends you can easily play with tactically and have fun? BF3

Are you more of a loner, wanting to do your thing and not depend too much on your team, MW3.

There's only one question you need to ask yourselves. Do you care about piloting vehicles in your FPS games? If the answer is yes, you buy Battlefield 3.

I am suspicious of this thread due to OP low post counter and ofc the topic, I also doubt a flame war will erupt due to it being The Escapist who tend to say "just your opinion" and I feel have a slight preference for BF3.

OT: BF3 as the vehicles will add a massive jump in variety, while COD is just small changes to how many bullets it takes to drop someone.

It matters what you're looking for. BF3 ends up bringing more to the table multiplayer-wise. Especially if you've got the PC power. It's focused on more of a team effort with vehicles and specialized classes working together.

That can be a liability though as a bad team will result in an un-fun experience. In CoD you're heavily focused on the fast paced, twitch reaction style of gameplay and even if your team isn't very good I find it still very easy to have fun if you personally do well even in a loss. Also I'd give the edge to CoD outside of multiplayer. The campaign is better and you also get that new spec-ops/horde mode thing.

Lots of support for BF3, good to see :D. I have nothing to add about MW3, because I haven't played it, but what I can say is that BF3 is enormous fun, it's technical, strategic, and quite a different game to COD. I like the scale of the warfare - BF3 has better scale with 24 players than MAG does with 256. If you like FPS games, then you will like both MW3 and BF3, maybe the question shouldn't be which to buy, but which to buy first. How awesome would it be to have 2 FPS franchises fighting it out every year, the last few years have been all about COD, COD vs the last COD - there has been no real need to mix things up very much - the FPS game market needs both games, needs them to make money, and then we'll see some real innovations.

For once, gamers can't loose!

Indeed. I'm no CoD fan. The MW3 launch came and went and I barely bat an eye. However, I still loved CoD4's campaign. And the multiplayer was lacked the noob-tubes, overpowered killstreaks, and wanton hacking and glitches that made MW2 such a mess.

I've been looking up videos for both games and they look great, but I really need to know which one brings more fun and variety to the table. For right now I can only get one, I just want to make sure it is the right one.
COD has a much better single player, a much better co-op experience and a really improved MP.

Battlefield is far more tactical, works better if you have a group of friends or people working together, terrible single player and co-op, is on a much larger scale and has vehicles.

It's a matter of opinion, if you ask me COD is better if you are playing alone and want more of a pick up and play game but if you have a great PC and a bunch of friends to play with than Battlefield 3 will last you longer.

Battlefield 3 is an excellent large-scale team based shooter with tons more features, except for one: local multiplayer. It really depends on how often you get together with friends to play video games. Because hey guys I just got battlefield 3 and it's super cool and jet's are in it. But we can't play it together so I guess let's play smash bros!"

I'm a huge battlefield fan and when the PC was my main gaming platform I played hours and hours of Battlefield 2, but I really like playing games with my friends in the same room.

Final verdict? Buy both and keep COD in a closet until your friends come over.

Actually they've greatly improved killstreaks and have tweaked basically everything in MP to make it better, I have yet to see any glitches and Spec Ops has some amazing new features.

Look I'm not telling you what to do but maybe you should give MW3 a try before you bad mouth it because I've seen a lot of ignorance spouting from people who have yet to play it saying stupid shit like it is an expansion pack to MW2 or a cut and paste job. Yeah I agree that the engine is pretty much the same and it looks similar but graphics aren't important what should be important is the gameplay and in this regard MW3 has improved the series for the better.

I like the CoD series and I also like the Battlefield series, both of these series fill their own niche and can exist side by side there can be no real answer to which is better because at the end of the day they are very different games. So instead of wasting play time to badmouth the other series why don't we all just play whichever game we want or even better buy both and have to great games to play.

Also you know what is sad all of this childish anti-CoD stuff by fans of the Battlefield series is actually making the fanbase of CoD look mature in comparison, think about that for a moment.

I wasn't sure which to buy myself, but then I played the BF3 beta and didn't enjoy it.
I still want to check out the campaign mode though, so will be renting it before deciding.

I bought Uncharted 3 (I loved the beta for it) and completed campaign, which was great, then bought and started on MW3 (knowing what to expect, I bought it without playing any betas/demos) and have played some campaign, spec ops missions & spec ops survival. All 3 modes have been class so far. The campaign is solid (as always) & the spec ops misions are hard enough to warrant the Veteran difficulty, but not seemingly impossible, even by yourself.
Spec ops Survival is amazing! My fiancee and I have logged in a fair few hours so far, played on about half of the maps (of which there are a decent amount), and I can see us playing on it a lot more

I also played a few offline multiplayer matches (not looked at online yet). It's weapons seem well balanced so far, there's some nice new toys to play with, and the only thing I don't like is the spawning on search and destroy. It's set up perfectly for spawn traps.

If you're on console then I would recommend BF3, unless you haven't played CoD in which case feel free to go pick that up. If you're on PC I'd steer clear of both, origin is pain in the arse for BF3 and MW3 PC release has been confirmed to be poor.

Battlefield 3 is a more realistic and requires tactical thinking and has a lot of team battles in multiplayer

Modern Warfare 3 is more of an arcade type shooter where its easier to pick up and play and its quite fun if all you want is just to play without investing too much time, multiplayer is the same as Black Ops

so basically it comes down to;

do you have a lot of time and and love shooters, get BF3, giant maps, lots of vehicles, and great graphics
if you're more of a casual p;layer or have a full time job that takes up most of your time go for MW3 its easier and fun

if you're going strictly for single player CoD wins by a long shot

No reason to be suspicious, I'm just trying to see what other gamers think of the two and decide on the one that suits me best.

Battlefield 3. The campaign is shit, but then so is MW3's. At least BF3 brings some quality multiplayer to the table.

If you want vehicles giant ass maps, 32 vs 32, and mortars: Battlefield 3
Stupid people using the rocket launchers as an infantry weapon: Modern Warfare 3
A disgusting learning curve for some parts of the game/you not very good at battlefield games: Battlefield 3
Same shit different day plus all the trolling and racial bullshit that comes with it: Modern Warfare 3.

At no point am I saying BF3 doesn't have trolling, its just that you have to actually try to be creative when you troll.
