This annoys me because I want Persona 4, but I dont have a PS2 anymore, can I get it on the PS3?
No, at least, not yet.
OP: P4 is fantastic. Persona 3 Portable is also very good. I'd recommend 4. You could wait until next month when Persona 2: Innocent Sin drops for the PSP.
I own a PS3 but don't own a PS2 or PSP, does this mean there is no way for me to play these games at all? I've heard a lot about the series and would very much like to play 3 & 4.

Any idea if either might be coming to the PS3 marketplace or anything like that? Or is my only option to buy a PS2? (Which I can't afford) :<
I know of no plans for the PSN. You would have to get a PS2 (or PSP). There is an unnamed Persona game being worked on for the 3DS, though.

I'm finding it really strange how everyone is referring to the Persona series as being comprised of only two games.
Obviously I know that people must realise that P3 wasn't the first game, it's just odd that people aren't saying "of the only two any of us have played, Persona (3 or 4) is my favourite!" but are instead going more along the lines of, "out of the two Persona games, (3 or 4) is my favourite"

That being said, the first two are VERY different to the second two, and my personal favourite is 3. :)
There are some good reasons for this. Until P3, the series had a lot of trouble gaining a following outside of Japan. Not because of the darkness or the difficulty, but because of a ton of bad luck and weird mistakes:

* Persona 1's original English localization was only available to people in North America. Since that was before modern TVs, you would have to get yourself a set that supported 60hz and mod or import an NTSC PS1 to run it in Europe. Also, it was a horrible localization. So bad, in fact, that nobody who worked on it is still at Atlus USA.

* They never released Innocent Sin in English. We'll be getting it in September now that twelve years have passed.

* Eternal Punishment isn't exactly easy to find. And you'll still be playing part 2.

* Even with the PSP remake, P1 is a first-person dungeon crawler with fairly stiff, stodgy combat. Compared to the third-person exploration and comfortably fluid battles of P3/P4/Nocturne/DDS/etc, it feels very dated.

I'm probably forgetting some.

i thinking of trying out one of the persona games because ive heard lots of good stuff about them, but i cant get all on account of not having much money. so which one should i get?
If you have a PSP definitely get Persona 3 for the PSP, it has the best game mechanics due to it taking bits from 4 and adding new things.

If you don't well it depends on what you want from the story Persona 3 FES is more apocalyptic in tone but not as story heavy, don't get me wrong it has a good story but gameplay and the relationship system is king there. Persona 4 on the other hand has a more intimate story which takes up a lot of game time but I think is more interesting and has much better characters, the combat while important takes up a lot less time however the dungeons are better designed and include the rare puzzle.

In my opinion they really are both great games and you should get both I'd get both but get FES first as it better explains the concept better and builds the ground work for the technically better Persona 4. That should keep you occupied until you can afford 4.

So get both, and get onto my YouTube channel cause the PERSONA 4 ANIMATION IS COMING OUT SOON!!! YEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!
This. Avoid this like the PLAGUE!! Trinity Souls is just awful, and completely devalued the series. and the P4 anime is looking ot be just as bad. avoid them!
Trinity Souls is indeed awful. I have absolutely no idea what it has to do with the SMT universe at all. And it was as boring as a very boring thing.
Yeah, but this one is actually based in-game. They have the actual people working on the anime from the game itself...so it wont be a screw up...
