I like Sifi in general (KOTOR, Mass Effect, Infinite Space.). The problem is that it constantly has to re invent its self for each game, where as your traditional D&d (aka western rpgs) have more of a built in formula: stat, race, and class, (strength, agility, wisdom, intelligence, personalty,: dwarf, human, elf, orc,: wizard, warrior, rouge, thief,) in short (too late) Science Fiction is harder to get into, but when it's done right is very enjoyable i.e. Kotor and D&d traditional has a better pick-up-and-play value.

Medievil and they also went through a bit of a steampunk phase and seam to have gone back to Sci Fi.

do you prefer the sci-fi space setting of Fallout 3/Mass Effect or the Medeival setting of Oblivion and Dragon Age, or some other setting (although i'm pretty sure no otehr exists).

personaly i prefer the medieval setting with dragons and swords. i don't know why, it's just a preferance.

so tell me word readers, which do you prefer?
Also Sci Fi and Fantasy are completely different. Also Fallout 3 is post apocalyptic/50s style. Do you mean what kind of setting do you like RPG games?
yeah, i fix'd it now.

also, my first topic to go to 100. so, go me.
Ok just confused me and then
OT: I rather the Fantasy setting to Sci Fi if it is done well. Like something like LoTR is brilliant but I like all Sci Fi.

You know what would be awesome? A modern day RPG. There is a d20 rulebook for modern RP's, but I think it would be awesome to see an RPG based on it.

Although I love both science-fiction and fantasy, I have been finding myself increasingly leaning towards sci-fi. It just seems a lot more varied whereas fantasy writers have the tendency of following the same archetypes.

If I had to choose, I would have to go with the Punk settings: Cyber, Steam, Diesel and whathaveyou. I'm not tied down to any one setting, but if it has punk in the name, I generally at least take notice.

Oh damn it now you are doing this to? Because one person doing it wasn't annoying enough. This needs to stop before it becomes like the time everyone talked like HK-47.

OT:I like both as long as they are done well, the only setting I couldn't get into was steam punk.

Post Apocalypse/ Science Fiction.

Fallout 3= my favorite game of all time. Mass Effect was acceptable and I haven't played ME2 yet. Oblivion was meh IMO and Dragon Age got on my nerves with the combat. So two developers, each making a sci-fi and a fantasy and I prefer both sci-fi's.

Fantasy. But less on the fantasy.

I hate being a goddamn pussy wizard, but when I play an RPG that has magic, I feel like I'm missing part of the game if I don't have it. So I always end up with a mage who specialises in the highly respected magical field of "stabbing the fuck out of everything"

Fantasy like Mount and Blade- where your skills are all secondary to your ability to stab bitches in the face- is my favourite.

Sci-fi is alright, but there's only so good you can be at calling "Orbital strike that fucker".

You bastard...
no seriously you bastard...
That was not funny at all and I can see you are lacking simple morality, like any other nowadays kid/teenager/adult. what has become with the people of today, sickening.
I hope you burn in hell after crashing in a similair accident, because that was not funny.
Well that's awesome. Thank you for that uplifting statement.
Seriously, what you have said was morally irresponsible, and you should be ashamed.
Thought police!

Edited by me to save face.

While I really love settings like Oblivion, I love SciFi more.

I would really love a Mass Effect MMO one day so I can play a nobody shopkeeper on the Citadel or Illyum ^_^

Science fiction is my preference, although I do enjoy a good fantasy every now and again (Dragon Age, anyone?).

I love both, actually. I'm a Sci-Fi geek, but in gaming I also adore the fantasy settings. Impossible to pick, in my case.
Somewhat the same, although if pushed I'd probably pick the Oblivion setting over the others.
