I went with totodile and he was absolutely amazing. The general consensus in competitive battling is that he is superiour to Cyndaquil too.
The legendary pokemon were caught the same way all the way back to B/G/R/Y except wandering ones. Mewtwo isn't in the original pokemon GSC but you can get dratini which evolves into Dragonite.brick said:Are the legendary pokemon the same as in previous games in the way that you only get one chance to catch them? Also if pokemon from red/blue are in gold/silver, are ones like mewtwo and dragonite available? They were toooo good.Freshman said:As long as you don't pick the crocodile guy. Really high base attack, but special At. sucks so all his actual water attacks will be shit. Other stats are average. I'd go with the grass one, because even though the first 2 gyms will suck, It's the only good pure grass type in the game. Although certainly don't get turned off from the little fire dude, He's pretty good too, it's just that there is a few other fire guys you can get instead instead. Mainly, Magmar or Ho-Oh (the bird guy on the cartridge) and arcanine once you get to ... spoiler avoidance land (and then theres always the legendary dog, but can't really count on capturing him early in the game)
Cyndaquil is best at the start, he's very strong and doesn't have any type disadvantages against the early gyms, and has an advantage against the second. Croconaw has type advantages against the later gym leaders, and also doesn't have many disadvantages early. Chicorita has a type disadvantage against the first gym, and is a bit weak early game, but he's the best against the elite four. That was what I was told by several websites when I googled it years ago. Cyndiquil is the easiest, then croconaw, and then Chicorita is hardest, but Chicorita is the best against the elite four.brick said:This may seem like an odd topic but I recently found my old Game Boy Color, but cannot find my old Red version anywhere. My girlfriend found an old Gold version for me to use but I have never played gold or silver, have no idea which pokemon to use, or to try and collect in order to beat the game's gyms. Any advice on which pokemon to use or any other strategies would be most helpful![]()
Oh, one more thing, in violet city, at night, I believe you can capture a ghastly, which I strongly recommend. Not sure, I play more crystal than gold, but I think they're there in gold too.brick said:This may seem like an odd topic but I recently found my old Game Boy Color, but cannot find my old Red version anywhere. I think in gen two, water was based of the att stat, but I'm not sure at all. Even if it is spec attack, it doesn't matter, give him slash, and crunch and he's still one of the best pokemon you're going to get.(whitty name here) said:Totodile is kind of broken in the original, as he has a pretty mediocre special attack, which is bad for water types.
So, considering Typhlosion has the exact same stats as a charizard, with a more offensive movepool, along with it doesn't have a double weakness to rock, can blow through the second, sixth, and seventh gyms with no difficulty, i would have to say cyndaquil
Water bas based off of Special until generation IV. But yeah, slash and crunch pretty much what made him useable. But you don't get those for a while. Kind of sucks that you can't really bother with water attacks with him.spartan231490 said:I think in gen two, water was based of the att stat, but I'm not sure at all. Good call, now I remember I think the earliest a decent fire type shows up is Magmar at Ecureak or whatever that ghost gym leader's town was called.TheRightToArmBears said:I personally like Totodile the most, but Cyndaquil is a good choice, because it's far easier to catch a good water type pokemon than it is to catch a fire-type.
