I'm considering buying a tablet, but I can't really decide, and the information I've found so far is often very biased one way or the other, or not sufficient. Then I figured I might come here, seeing as how this place is a fairly tech-savvy lot.

So basically, I've been looking at the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, the Tab 10.1, and the 4th gen Ipad 10.1. Now, usually, I'm not a big Apple fan, and I HATE having to use iTunes to load music and video on their products (I've got an Ipod Nano), but I do really like the interface, aesthetic, screen resolution, and the feel of general quality. This is also the only pad I've actually had the chance to try. What I don't like is the lack of flash, which prevents watching videos on here for example (is there an Escapist app or something?), and having to use iTunes. Are there USB, HDMI or memory card (MicroSD for example) slots on it? And I probably won't be getting the 3g one, Wi-Fi is plenty, due to the price of roaming data here.

About the 2 Samsungs I've seen they have memory card slots, but a much lower resolution, and that's pretty much it. Do they support flash, do they feel and look as nice, do they have USB/HDMI slots, and lastly, do they support drag-and-drop/copy-pasting video/music/picture files from my PC?

Edit: Forgot to put my budget here, which is what it needs to be, I have the budget needed, just need to know what to spend it on.

Any input would be very much appreciated.

Budget? That's the only thing I'm missing here. If you don't have much to spare, go with an Android tablet. Or just get a laptop, if you're planning to use it as one.

Forgot to put that in. Budget isn't really that much of an issue, the difference in price isn't all that enormous here, so the budget is pretty much what it needs to be to buy the better one. I've also already got a top of the line desktop computer, and a very good laptop, for those needs, so that's not an issue.

If so, there is no issue with taking a Samsung. In general, Android tablets have been better than the iPad for a while now, with having that flexible OS on there along with the ability to load Flash and all.

I would recommend the Windows 8 tablets, but a good number of them have RT (minus Surface Pro, for now). I'm also a nutter when it comes to having a true portable solution, so just throwing that out there as a consideration.

You should probably go to Best Buy and lay hands on an android before making a decision.

No, no, and no. I think you can use lightning to throw your screen, but at an exaggerated price.

Really the only thing the iPads have going for them is a higher screen resolution. I've got an S3 which is very similar to the Note...excellent build quality, smooth interface, does all of the things, wouldn't want any other phone - I don't even use my Windows tablet anymore since I got this (I'm eBaying it [http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/251238498791] at the moment if anyone wants a look), though if I had to buy a tablet it would probably be something by Samsung (or maybe ASUS). FYI the Tab and Note can both output HDMI over USB but it requires an adaptor - I've got one for my S3 (cost a whopping $8.45) and it does a really good job even if it's a little inconvenient.

...You installed W8 on an iPad?

Also, you should probably put that somewhere in the description.

EDIT: Disregard. I mistook the windows button for an Apple button in those low resolution photos.

I haven't seen a Wopad in a while... shit.

Yeah...even after clicking the enlarge button the pictures on eBay are still pretty small. If it were an iPad it would probably be a somewhat bigger deal (considering they run on completely different architecture). There were a lot of Wopads and other cheap Windows tablets on eBay back when I got mine though they appear to have all but completely vanished since then with just a few lingering accessories for the Wopad still for sale. Seems like the off brand Windows tablet market has dried up about as fast as it appeared, though not entirely surprising since the price of quality branded units have come down substantially since then.

What would you recommend as a good W8 tablet? And you say the Android ones can load flash, is that through a dedicated app, or do their browser support flash video players and such in the browser itself? Also wondering that for stuff like bank services and such.

Acer Iconia W510 ($500)

Windows 8 (i5): Surface Pro ($1000)

Personally, if I were on a budget, I'd get an Atom. W8 is an excellent tablet OS.

Most Androids have native Flash on their standard internet browser (But not Chrome). Supposedly that may change soon.

The nexus seven was the best 150 bucks i ever spent. Although andriods dont support flash there are very easy ways around that. I love that lil tablet. it does everything i need it to do.
