How about Warhammer 40k??
I thought that possibly was getting a film. Or am I thinking of Halo?
There was a German 40k fanfilm in the works quite a few years ago called Damnatus, but it was more or less shut down due to copyright laws (although apparently there are leaks to be found if you know where to look).

There were also talks of a Halo film, but AFAIK it never really left the concept stage. I'm not certain of this, but I'm pretty sure that one good thing did come from the project: some of the people who were to work on the CGI ended up working on District 9 instead.

Also, just going to toss this in here: http://qntm.org/chess (not my work, of course, but a great idea anyway).

Shame. I'm certain fun summer films could be made of both those IPs.

Was Battleship actually about the board game, or just the same name?

Pretty sure it wasn't actually based off of it...
It was marketed as being based on the board game. And there's (supposedly - haven't seen it) even a section in it where they end up firing shells to plot out a grid (and find the enemy) in roughly the same way as playing a game of Battleship.

Based on the classic Hasbro naval combat game, Battleship is the story of an international fleet of ships who come across an alien armada whilst on a Naval war games exercise.

Another D&D movie?? There was a D&D movie? Which one was that? I don't watch very many movies any more, I would love to watch a D&D movie though. I've always wanted a movie based on the Dragonlance Chronicles(books not board games) but I think who ever made it would mess it up.
There were two D&D movies last I checked. A few scenes are forgettable... Except for Jeremy Irons

It is, by far, the greatest role he ever played as an actor. The sheer power with which he delivers his lines will leave you stupefied.

Well... It DOES leave you stupefied.

Still, Jeremy Irons is probably the most entertaining thing in that movie, his acting is possibly only bested by his eyebrows' acting.
The second one was a semi-decent movie, surprisingly enough. You know how there were a lot of complaints/jokes to the effect that it would have been a better movie if they had just turned someone's campaign notes into a movie? Well, they apparently did that for the sequel. It really is D&D the movie, right down to the different classes actually playing different roles in the dungeon.

OT: What about Axis and Allies or Risk? A story about a giant war from the perspective of the people commanding the armies. I'd watch that.

Also, this isn't really a franchise, but I found this cool boardgame in a thrift shop called "Conflict: Korea 1995." It was made in 1992, and apparently the idea was that the next big war would be the Korean war flaring back up. You could do a pretty cool movie like that, an alternate history where the Korean war flared back up in the mid-90's.

Risk 2210: Various factions of the earth attempt to gain the ultimate high ground by conquering the moon, while still others attempt to claim the neutral undersea biospheres to survive the inevitable lunar nuclear assault. (Because seriously, everyone nukes everyone else on the last turn, so the land is not a fun place to be).

Or maybe instead of a D&D movie they could dredge up some obscure tabletop RPG setting and use it to make it a movie. Oh wait, that would require words that aren't buzzwords and actual research. Hollywood would never go for it.

Not asking what SHOULD be done
Actually, you do in the title. ;)

I'd love to see Michael Bay try to make a summer blockbuster out of Connect 4.
Connect 4: Terrorists have stolen 4 McGuffin type power cores and are attempting to insert them into the power grid of the USA (because its the only country that matters!) which will somehow magically blow shit up and make the terrorists win! The only hope is to determine where the connections between the 4 McGuffin Cores will take place, and to block them with ANTI-McGuffin Cores! It's a race against time and explosions directed by Michael Bay!

I'd like to see one of the game "Clue" set as a murder mystery sort of thing.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088930/
SHIT! It's like someone from the future went back in time and made a movie based on your forum post!

Oh I'm so going to get in trouble from the admins for this one.
Why do you say that? And, to be honest, I find this statement to be rather funny. I wasn't aware there was a clue movie, but another poster pointed it out to me. What a strange world we live in.
Clue is one of my favorite movies, best toy to movie adaptation EVER. Funny though, I've never seen the trailer and several of those scenes never made it into the movie. Wonder if we'll ever see an extended cut with those and the alledgedly filmed but never used 4th ending...

Back on topic I'd like to see movies based on...

Sectaurs

Micronauts (alledgedly in the works...)

None involving board games since it will bomb big time. Battleship bombed cuz it was a dumb idea in the first place.

Transformers and toys can do well because it has characters and plot and backstory. A board game can't pull that off.

Didn't Robot Chicken already do this skit? Turning Chutes & Ladders and Hungry Hungry Hippo into a movie?

Nicholas Cage
It had to be Nicholas Cage.
Why? Because Nicholas Cage makes any film better.

I would give Avengers a 9/10, but if it were like this it would of been a 10/10.
I don't know why but that picture actually upset me a little.
