Hello there. I have a quick question regarding the xbox.

I want to get a console with a few more games designed for gamers, as my wii has run out of games I enjoy. For the time being. So, I therefore flicked through my arogos catalogue ( I live in the U.K) and had a look at the RRP of the other consoles.

This was when I realised I wouldnt be getting a PS3 on my paper boy wages.

So, I have a quick question, should I go for the xbox arcade, the old 20gb xbox (second hand maybe?) or the 60gb xbox?

I earn £15 a week, but if I do some extra rounds (another morning and an evening) That will go up to £40 a week.

cheers guys.

p.s Any trolls that answer the above question with "None, get a ps3/pc" are idiots, and have clearly not read my post at all.

if your on a lower budget and don't mind getting a last-gen console, then I'd recommend a PS2... since they're cheap as dirt and have a great line up of games. Either that or a Wii (for the same reasons, except its a current-gen console)

If you REALLY want a Microsoft console, I'd say an Xbox - the 360 has a LOT of hidden expenses, since you need to buy lots of add-ons for certain things, like a battery pack, wireless internet, etc etc.

Don't get the xbox arcade thing. A 20gb should be fine, it took a while to fill up my 20gb HDD.
If you can, get an Elite. My Elite never died on me, maybe that was just luck though.

None get a PS3/PC.

Seriously though, Im not an Xbox expert but Ill give you some advice before they turn up.

Depending on your preference/needs you will have to choose between models.
If you arent concerned about Xbox Live or the Marketplace then you can set your eyes on the lower end models.

Your best bet for an all rounder is an Xbox Arcade, as it gives you everything you need to just play games and allows you to use Live. Its cheap and gives you enough space to install games to the HDD and save your game.

Unless you plan to be buying a lot of downloadable games then I suggest the 20GB. It will have plenty of memory for all your saves and is a reasonable price.

The 60GB is only recommendable if you want to download lot's of things like Arcade games etc. You wont need that extra 40GB under normal circumstances.

The Arcade I can't help you with because I know nothing about it.

Hope I helped.

I'd say it depends on how much you are going to play and whether your going to use DLC. Personally I wouldn't bother with the arcade as I feel a hard-drive is a must, but if you are going to play on the occasion then this may suit you best or the 20gb. I would say don't get a second hand one as if you suffer the dreaded RROD or E74 you might find yourself in a pickle.

If you are going to use DLC then I would say go for 60gb, I found I had to replace my 20gb hard-drive as for one out of the 20gb you can only use 12gb and that just isn't enough for how much I download, especially now with NXE enabling you to install games to your hard drive it starting to eat away at it.

yes, yes I did but... hold on a second... *re-reads post*
oh riiiiight! yeah sorry I forgot 360's came in multiple different formats lol (I thought he meant the original Xbox when he said "old" and "second-hand" :p)
but yah, I'd still recommend something else, since Wii's/PS2's are cheaper for a budget price :p
either that or the 60 gig 360, since there are less hidden expenses then.

Wait for the 60gb, it's a safer and better bet. You'll have much less of a chance of red-ring. Plus the hard-drive is a great plus. If i were you, I would wait until I had enough money for the 60gb.

I'd say that you should get a 20GB or a 60GB Elite. Those are supposed to last longer. Whatever you do, do not get a pre-owned console.
If you plan on using a lot of DLC/songs/videos, then by all means, get the 60GB. I have the 20GB and it's not full yet, I don't get much DLC and when I don't use it, I delete it and download it again when I want.

God no, avoid the arcade. Go for 60gb, much more reliable, and trust me, you'll want the large hard drive.

lol, get a PC, n00b, srsly

actually I've been entertaining the thought of getting a 360 because since my PS2 broke I've missed consoles. Whiile I would normally be inclined to wait a year or two for the next console to come out, with both systems claiming to be "in it for the long run" it looks like I'm going to have to bite the bullet. So I've been browsing ebay and the like and from what I can see in terms of cheapness and usability the 20G seems most sensible.

It's been said, but it must bear repeating: DO NOT GET AN XBOX360 SECONDHAND. Reason: RROD. Speaking of which, is the RROD issue already addressed in the newer-generation Xboxes?

Get a NEW model, any as long as it's not the Arcade. Pre owned would be cheaper but you lose your warranty so it ould end up being a false economy.

It's worth knowing that the RROD is less frequent on new model 360's, but it can and does still happen, along with the lovely E74 as well. Make sure you get an extended warranty, it is a 360 after all.

Or you could buy a PC (hear me out).
I your careful with your spending you could put a reasonable gaming rig together for the price of a PS3, the extra cost is balanced more or less by the fact that games/services are cheaper on the PC, no Xbox live bill/games being half the price or less and so on. Just a thought.

kk, cheers guys, I'll have a look at the 20gb version, as I barely use DLC anyway. I'll use the free month of gold membership to see whether its worth paying for.

Noob question now, what is the difference between silver and gold XBL?

Everyone who has the ability to connect their Xbox to the internet (cable or wireless) has the ability to have a Silver Account: Which I believe allows you to download demos and other things from the Xbox Market Place.

Those who pay the yearly fee get Gold: Which allows everything Silver gives you but also allows you to play games online, add friends and chat to people.

As far as I know it hasn't, my cousin bought his original 360 from outside of the UK so it came chipped, so when the RROD occured Microsoft wouldn't repair/replace due to the void warrant. My uncle bought him a new one and 3 months down the line that RROD as well. This is recently, the replacement my uncle bought was in March 09 and it died in the end May and he's just got his replacement back.
