Link's Awakening DX is really good.

I think Legend of Zelda 2 is an underrated classic.

Wind Waker is fantastic, though the 'remake' was kind of...too blooming for me.

I've heard nothing but bad things about Zelda 2, though I've not experienced them myself and I know experiences differ. I mean, I really liked Castlevania II: Simon's Quest and everyone seems to hate that game.

Another vote for Link's Awakening. My favourite 2D entry in the series. I even made an avatar based on it, that I never ended up using and instead stuck in my profile.

Is skyward sword any good or one of the weaker entries in the series?
It's baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad.

No spoilers (except for hopes and dreams)

I've played every Zelda except Spirit Tracks and Breath of the Wild, and SS is the only one I didn't like. It's lacking a lot of the charm the other games have. The Wiistick waggle is the absolute worst in the series and actually made my wrists hurt. They didn't even manage to make good use of the Wii motion plus. I don't even know how they managed to screw it up so much because Red Steel 2 made better use of it, and that wasn't even first party. The plot is a weird attempt at making an origin story for a game that doesn't have a timeline in a way that doesn't even make sense as an origin story. Fetch quest after fetch quest make it feel like you aren't actually getting anything done and everybody is just jerking you around instead of letting you get on with the heroing. The over-overworld is empty, annoying, and slow to navigate.

And the handholding. Oh the handholding. About half the text in the game feels like it was written for braindead 4 year olds(who probably can't even read anyway!). The support character constantly interrupts to tell you the blindingly obvious in a way that is completely devoid of charm or levity. Sometimes she'll even tell you the solution to puzzles before you get a chance to try and solve them. The game is not well written, and of course that means it is absolutely bloated with dialogue and cutscenes (no, you can't skip or speed up any of it). It takes 38 minutes to get to the first dungeon, without taking any time explore or talk to any side characters. Most of that feels like you are being talked down to, and it's just dull. There is a mechanic that's function is to point you in exactly the right direction and the game beeps at you until you use it at least once, every time there is a new objective to track. And when you pick up upgrade materials after shutting the Wii off it will always pause the game, go to the status screen and show the counter increment. For Every Different One You Pick Up. Every time you resume playing. I just started avoiding them, because the upgrade system was not fun or rewarding.

The game looked pretty bad too. That normally doesn't bother me, but the jaggies were some of the worst I've ever seen. It was just distracting to see shifting jagged lines everywhere. And I really hate how Link's expressionless face looks, he just looks oblivious and dumb, like he has no idea what's going on.

That's just a quick overview of the problems with Skyward Sword.

Okami is the best Zelda game ever so play that :). If it has to be Zelda (in name) though I think the best single player one is Link to the Past although I had the most fun with Twilight princess probably because it felt like a poor mans Okami. So since you have done LTTP I suggest TP.

Best Zelda game I have ever played however (as in an actual Zelda title) is 4 swords adventures on GC. Only trouble is you really need 3 other people and 4 GBA systems with link (no pun intended) cables. Which is a pretty tall order for most. It does work great with 2 or 3 also but not so much single player. It makes great use of the 2 screens each player gets and has probably the best puzzles in the series (that I have played ofc). Absolutely awesome game. Just a word of warning though its may ruin your friendship with people as you need to work cooperatively to progress and defeat bosses but each player is trying to get the most rupees in a level to win and yes you can throw others into pits to steal their stuff.

I've been playing the Zelda games this year, after Breath of the Wild.
I'm going into it as someone who has been gaming for a long time, but more or less ignored Zelda before now (I tried to get into the series at various points, but it never stuck until Breath of the Wild).

Twilight Princess: Starts slow, but quite pretty, at least.
Link's Awakening: This one is really compelling. I'm halfway through, and it's a surprisingly well realized world, given the hardware limitations
Skyward Sword: I couldn't get past the controls
Zelda 1: A bit too reliant on destroying random objects with no clear markings that they're important

I'm planning on finishing Link's Awakening and diving further into Twilight Princess.
Once that's done, Wind Waker seems like the place to go.

I just need Dark Souls 2 to frigging end, first.

A link between worlds is amazing if you have a 3DS.
