To actually address the OP, since the entire first page is getting onto "who is more or less racist" fights...

Prototype 2 has an African-American main character.

Here is a brown dude with white hair.

Hell, look at this picture

At least 1/4 of those characters have black hair. Trust me, the variety of hair colors in protagonists is perfectly fine.

BioShock (we technically don't see Jack, so I choose to believe that he has red hair)
Eh! There are pictures of him. Black and white pictures, but from the looks of it he has brown hair (and is wearing a sweater through all of bioshock. The balls he has, getting wool wet).

So are we to take this as an admission of trolling?
Mocking you equals trolling you? Really, kompis?

(Though you do get props for actually using the quote function this time. Oh wait, you didn't. Typical.)

No no no no no no.

Don't do this.

If you want to talk about this stuff, go and make your own thread about it. Don't hijack someone else's thread.
You've done this in a few threads now, and it's really getting annoying.
Agreed. Though I doubt he will get that much attention if he does. Plenty of folk are just ignoring him.

Now that is just not related to this topic...right?

I hope you can see the massive hypocrisy of that statement.
There's nothing hypocritical about it. Ironic perhaps, but not hypocritical.
I'd say generalizing an entire nationality while claiming a people to be racist is rather hypocritical. But hey, that's just the definition of hypocrisy. Who cares about that >_>

Ok, you got me there but he was born on a human colony planet called Eridanus II so he isn't that typical... maybe.
'how many games have you played with a non-white and/or non-brown haired human protagonist?'

He's human, he has brown hair, he's white; he definately falls into the stereotype :(

Also, Mass Effects 1&2 have covers with a brunette white guy so despite the third having the option for a femShep cover I'm afraid Mass Effect is still in the category.

However, disregarding Japanese games entirely because pretty much all of them have awesome hair and this thread should be specified as being about Western games;

Jade Empire's characters are all Chinese and hence have black hair except one who's British

Dungeon Siege's covers all have a redheaded female on the front, and the accursed third game portrays the hero of Eb or whatever they called her as female.

...

Aaand those are my only two Western games where the main protagonist/presumed protaganist (the cover art hero) is not a brown haired white guy. That's pretty damn depressing.

Hmm.

In how many Asian games is the male protagonist not black-haired?

I would like to say 'well played sir, well played' but 'Asian' games would include all JRPGs and there's a truckload of wierd and wacky protagonists there, many with non-black hair

Just going by what games I've played lately:

Only two of my eight Guild Wars characters[footnote] I wanted to try out a lot of different classes[/footnote] are white with brown hair, and that's because I am white with brown hair myself, and wanted to see how much I could make my character look like me. (The answer is: not much...)

Guybrush Threepwood is blonde.

Cthulhu is best described (by H.P. Lovecraft) as looking like "...an octopus, a dragon, and a human caricature.... A pulpy, tentacled head surmounted a grotesque scaly body with rudimentary wings."[footnote] I whole-heartedly recommend Cthulhu Saves the World[/footnote]

Mass Effect (not even default characters), Skyrim, Mirror's Edge, Ninja Gaiden, Ratchet and Clank, Assassin's Creed: Revelations (the others, white is a stretch, but in AC:R hair is grey), God of War, Prince of Persia, Metroid, GTA4...

...in short, a f***ing large number. Every game with customisable appearance (in which case there are a large number of non-white non-brown heaired possible protagonists), every game with a female protagonist, every game with a non-white protagonist (of which there are plenty), and most games with non-human or non-organic or genderless protagonists.

So can we please knock it off? Or just, like, all make threads at once saying "Men are more prominent in videogames than women, and white men more prominent than other kinds of men, discuss" and get it over with?

CAPTCHA: perfect world. Take what irony you wish from that.

EDIT: Lolipop Chainsaw, Binding of Isaac, Arkham Asylum...

Alex Mercer, That guy from Limbo (actually, everyone in Limbo), The kid (bastion), Isaac from TBoI. In fact, every game i have played recently doesn't have a protagonist with brown hair AND white skin.

I win your bet, sir.
Alex Mercer is white with brown hair.
He has a hood, thus nobody can see his hair through prototype 1 (maybe he does show his hair, i haven't finished it yet). But i firmly believe that Mercer has rainbow colored dreadlocks under that hood, I'm just waiting for it to be shown.

Your avatar doesn't look edible...I call shenanigans!

Also, isn't the picture of Mercer accompanying the death certificate that they show at the beginning before he breaks out of the morgue hoodless? Anybody feel like starting a new game and finding out? Or am I mistaken and there's no picture? I swear I remember a picture...

Yeah, I've noticed it before; I just really don't care. The ethnicity and hair color of a protagonist are really irrelevant to me; I only care if they're a well written or interesting protagonist. We seem to be at a lack for those, though.
Oh, and to accept your challenge, I was going to go through my games list and mark down every protagonist who wasn't white or who didn't have brown hair, but you said modern AAA games, and those make up a third of my current games library (on all platforms)

Also, I see a lot of people clicked that Red button. Including myself. Now we all must pay the price.

I make it a point to avoid games with protagonists that have the musclebound white guy with short brown hair thing going on. They just don't tend to make for very interesting characters in my mind. And when I make a character in any game that allows character customization, it tends to be as weird and outlandish as possible. Like a fat purple Russian luchador woman in Saints Row: The Third.

And this is all coming from someone that happens to be a brown-haired white guy.
