Oh no I enjoy your posts actually. I just find it peculiar that this new poster who very much seems like her has appeared out of the blue around the same time you started posting again after the whole situation last year.

Don't mind me, did not mean to cause offense.
Just, telling me my posts are popcorn worthy kind of implies that I'm a walking shit-show, which just kinda felt mean-spirited.

If that's not what you meant, then fair enough. I've been a little defensive lately.
Yeah sorry, I can see how you would have taken it that way. No, I just find your posts interesting along with many other posters. I may not agree with everything you say but I like having two sides to discussions. Especially when in controversial threads I tend to be a lurker cause I don't want to get stomped in a debate :p.

Are you being derisive on purpose?

If you don't like me you can put me on ignore, you don't have to be snide.

I, on the other hand *pours popcorn into suitable bowl* wait with bated breath to see if Trilligan defends Maiev for posting something about how Hitler was just misunderstood or something. I kid, of course, while we generally were in disagreement on things, the sparring was pretty amicable and fun, and my last forum encounter with Boudica before she left was refreshingly pleasant.

Edit: Dang it... got suckered back into this thread, getting it more views despite my previous post in here.

Where do you get that impression? Last time I checked it didn't do anything to insult its audience.

Probably because it loves itself so much. The very existence of the thing means the authors stand morally above us in their own "defense force", believing they have the authority to condemn because they do not suffer from that which they attack. Pretty ironic actually. But human.

This is the most shameless piece of flamebait I've ever seen ever. You've basically become a full on troll at this point.
I think that is probably the reason for why I don't really find it funny. It should be, but it has the same level of subtlety as Family Guy. Maybe Grey finally got fed up with all of the people who always said "I don't get it." in the comments section?

Then again it's also possible that I am just really not in the mood for laughing right now, and would find it funny if I was feeling better.
An insult to Family Guy. I didn't find this funny either. They're trying to make a point by making fun of straw man versions of points nobody actually brings up in those discussions anyway.
Straw men? I have definitely had people tell me that "white men are the group that suffer the most discrimination today" with complete sincerity. I have also had so many "is this racist?" discussions derailed by people going on a "you're just being PC" rant.
I'd say "you're just being PC" is a definitive "no" to the question 'is this racist'?

Who actually says nobody can relate to black guys? And how many bring up the friendzone?

It just seems like she's going down a checklist of things to bring up to push buttons.

"Ooh people like to make fun of people wearing fedoras so let's make one of our bad guys wear fedoras. IT'S TOPICAL!"
The "you're just being PC" is a dismissal of the point rather than a disagreement with it. It's a poisoning the well tactic equivalent knee-jerk accusations of "racism". It's derailing a discussion with a buzz word rather than an argument.

I think the knee-jerk accusation of PC is far more prevalent now than the knee-jerk racist accusation, admittedly that might just be because of the kinds of opinions I tend to express.

Whether or not a black character can be relatable to an audience is the kind of discussion that does go on between producers and creatives a lot. There are very few black main characters in things that aren't specifically aimed at a black audience.

... is one of the characters wearing a fedora really something that upsets you? I won't deny that the comic is deliberately trying to piss off standard dick-head geek archetypes but so what, its making a real point at the same time.

Does this comic have a massive contingency of White Defendents?

No?

Then how does it hate it's audience? That... doesn't follow at all.

Wait?

This is the first Critical Miss to feature a black guy? And it's a comic making fun of those who choose to make their characters white?

Am I missing something here? Are they ridiculing themselves? I'm confused...
Well that's one way to call people on their bullshit. I'm looking forward to the follow up strip that justifies equating forum posting with murder.
Wasn't actually meant like that, it was a genuine question considering the description text they've provided.

But I've been spamming the random around a 100 times or so now and well... there was one dead black guy I guess...

Not to imply that's necessarily wrong, they're free to draw whichever characters they wish. I'm just confused considering Grey usually seems at least a tad more self-aware, a comic like this on a platform where a 100 random comics turn up a single dead black guy seems rather hypocritical.

Ok, honest question here for everyone:

Why exactly is this comic offensive? What specifically about it is insulting or demeaning or whatever else that would invite such umbrage? From where I'm sitting, there's literally nothing in it to get worked up about.

Is it the put-upon white guys taking up arms against the perceived racism with vaguely defined and poorly-quantified "facts"? Is it the Zimmerman reference? Is it the fact that the black guy dies, like in every action movie ever? Or is it... the fedora?

I can't see the reason why there's 10 pages of angry replies to this, nor why the entire first page is all about how the comic is pure flamebait. I just don't see it.

Someone explain please.

Oh man, when they made the Zimmerman joke... Yeesh, talk about edgy, considering how unbelievably divided people are about that whole fiasco. Honestly, though, I freaking love this comic!

Also, a lot of you guys seriously need to chill.

Take a deep breath, and step back from your computer keyboards (or touchscreens, whichever you prefer).
So let me get this straight. You have a comic that was posted for the sole purpose of inciting just this type of response, because let's be honest this is nothing more than thinly veiled flamebait you know full well it is. Then you get the desired response out of people only to turn around and tell them to cut it with the exact response the material was trying to incite in the first place? If you don't want people getting angry about something and reacting in this manner then this site shouldn't put content up that was designed specifically to get people to react in just this manner to begin with.
Emphasis mine.

You seem to be laboring under the notion that the Moderators, the Forums, the Website Staff, the Website, and the People Who Make This Comic are the same people. They are not. They are all parts of a large, moving machine. The things that get posted on this site don't change how you're allowed to behave in these forums. They don't suddenly change the rules. These forums have a certain degree of autonomy and separation, which is for the best. The moderators are doing their "jobs," which they are not paid for, by regulating discussion in this thread and ensuring compliance with the forums rules. I recommend you show them some respect for doing so in a polite, amicable way.

Oh no, people are quite allowed to get as angry as they like.

But it's when it reaches the point that they become so angry that they start attacking each other, throwing insults around, and breaking the rules in various other ways, THAT'S when they need to chill.

There's a difference between getting angry, and getting *rule-breaking* angry.
Honestly it seems rather disingenuous to post something that is very much meant to attack a particular group of people then turn around and tell those people that attacking and insulting people is something reserved for the site's content creators. Again, I would say that if you don't want people acting in this way then don't put up content meant to make people act in this way. It's not like these people are spontaneously acting out without being provoked. If you are going to put up content like this then it seems you shouldn't be surprised when it devolves into this very type of mess.
Wat.

The comic is attacking White Defense knee-jerkers.

Other content AND users have attacked homophobic people.

Tons of people here have attacked mysoginists/misandrists, and even more have attacked "Nice Guys".

Etc.

Why yes, I did just put "'White' Knight" Caucasian defenders on the same level as homophobes, mysoginists, etc. That's because they are. And that's who got attacked. And frankly, most people are OK with that.

Thanks god the White Guy Defense Force is here to defend my interests.

I get traumatized every time someone implies that the world should not revolve around me as an oppressed white male.

God bless you, White Guy Defense Force.

I'm pretty sure it's because it uses stereotypes to make a point, like every other topical comic.

Because SCREW topical comics, amirite?

I've been thinking about that myself, and although I don't see anything that's really worth getting up in arms about, I do think the Zimmerman reference is a little too soon. I mean, whether you agree with the courts decision or not, a kid is dead and a dude was hung by the media. Nobody really 'won', and thanks to the excessive media coverage and conjecture flying around it will probably be years before anyone can dig up the raw facts for themselves and come up with a personally satisfying answer.

Ever notice when someone says there's discrimination against white, straight men, they rarely provide examples?

The plight of the white, straight man makes me weep.

I KNEW it! You guys had me fooled for awhile, but I think I finally figured it out:
