Chris Dodd? Wasn't he the asshole who complained about all those sites that went dark for 24 hours, calling it "an abuse of power"? That shit is priceless, yo. Man should get his own sitcom. His catchphrase could be:"It's only abuse of power if I didn't do it."[cue laughtrack]

I'm just getting really sad about the internet lately. I've heard there's an alternative internet or something. Should we just start switching over to backups? Yes, I'm being overly pessimistc, but my faith in people the legal system is pretty low.
Yeah, and apparently he was also involved in the Fanny Mae Debacle.

Sadly, I'm Canadian, so I can't do shit about this.

But if I was, I would sign that thing in a heartbeat. This guy should be made an example of.
Just making friends aware of it is enough, im sure you have American friends you can link to it.
Actually, no. Unless you count that one guy who USED to be american, but then moved here permanently.

And online...this is pretty much the only community I'm part of. The only other forum I've ever become really invested in (armageddonGames) is pretty much totally dead at this point. No one has posted for a year and everyone has moved on.

I'm trying to sign, but it only lets me sign if I'm logged in, and logging in takes me to my profile page, and when I navigate back there it says I'm not logged in again. Any way to fix this? Hate to not be able to throw in my support because of a damned website glitch.

I hate that it's required for people to get up in arms against someone who admitted to doing something illegal, but PIRACY WOAH HOLD ON BRO! You're going to jail! Billionaire? Sorry sir let me get you another coffee.

How about the people who accepted the bribes? Jail them and fine their socks off too, they weren't exactly trying to push a tiny bill it was basically going to ruin everything for everyone that wasn't a corporation.

This shit is why there is a cap on donations to political parties in the UK :p

I hope he gets a review and the MPAA gets slated. Especially since its hardly uncommon knowledge that stuff like this happens in the US. Why would people donate such hug sums of money if not for preferential treatment.
The US does have a cap on donations. Groups just find various loopholes around it

Hopefully this will lead to a pretty interesting debate around redefining where lobbying ends and bribery begins.
There's really no difference between the two, to be perfectly honest. One was just made legal by the guys getting paid.

Even deeper, apparently Chris, being a recently-retired Senator, is not allowed to try to persuade ANY other Congressman to vote a particular way for two whole years. This would also be a felony (if I remember correctly).

I wanna sign this gosh darn petition, but I don't really wanna join a website to do this one thing and then never again. Is there another way? I would love it if there's another way. Chris Dodd needs to be taken down a notch!
So what if you have to join just for this one thing. It takes very little time and you can show that fucker Dodd that you have a voice and he isn't as powerful, or influential as he thinks he is. This is the kind of mindset that DOESN'T get shit done!

You really think the White House will give a shit? The MPAA has the Senate eating out their hands.
You guys can kick and scream all you want but what matters in the end is the money and only one side is willing to spend millions on keeping the Washington fat-cats placated. Guess which side that is.

Okay first the White House is not the Senate, and Obama has already railed against Sopa so he very well may just do this to make his position on the whole thing clear.
Secondly if money was the only concern Sopa and Pipa would have already passed, but you know what? It didn't. The internet blackout thing they did was so successful at spurring the internet to write congress that those who weren't being paid to support it stopped supporting it.
I love this mentality that YOU are completely worthless in the eyes of the government, even though they are comprised of people who work for YOU.

OT: Eh, I don't really think this guy is being bribed, I think he is just an idiot.

Look out guys, there's a petition. Because those have an awesome history of making huge differences.

I have an untested hypothesis that the longer a person stays in power/rolls in money, the more idiotic they become. The term 'longer' is up for debate.

Still, I don't think the investigation will do much to SOPA and PIPA.

You're acting like there was a difference to begin with.

If there was, it's lost in the annals of time decades ago.

Well of course it isn't going to do much against Sopa and Pipa. Or at least not directly.
Looking from a political standpoint if there is corruption that helps to support a bill that you oppose and you put an investigation against said individual, that throws scrutiny onto others who also support the bill.
And if he really was being bribed then every single person still supporting these bills is put under that same accusatory light which is really bad for elections. The remaining people who support the bill will either be forced to abandon supporting it if they want to continue on having jobs because the quickest way to lose a job in politics is to be accused of bribery and all around dickish corruption.

Signed and forwarded. Bastards like this are why our government sucks right now. Using money and influence to shaft the average American citizen in favor of pushing his own agenda.

Really? And what are you gonna do instead huh? Just sit at home watching from the sidelines?! At least we're trying to make a difference. Petitions have worked plenty of times in the past, especially if they get enough support. If you just wanna roll over for these jackasses go ahead, no one here will stop you. Just keep your pessimism out of the way!
