Look out guys, there's a petition. Because those have an awesome history of making huge differences.
I do believe that you've gone and missed the fact that this is a petition on the White House's official website and that they put a number on it saying "We will investigate this man for corruption if twenty five thousand sign it."

Well, seeing how it's a White house instigated petition, once they reach... however many signatures, they are obligated to look into it. It's not a "I demand the insta-kill purple dildo knife in Halo 4 to be taken out of the game immediatley. tumbs uP If u agriee!"

Edit: I was so proud of that witty sentence I forgot to finish writing the post. -Type of thing where the developers most likely wouldn't care about it in the first place.

Sadly, I'm Canadian, so I can't do shit about this.

But if I was, I would sign that thing in a heartbeat. This guy should be made an example of.
This is exactly how I feel... But wait! I live in California!

Really though, soon as I saw this, I made a profile and signed it.

Signature number 25,748! Rubbing it in to make sure it sticks.

Hopefully this will lead to a pretty interesting debate around redefining where lobbying ends and bribery begins.

Aparently, former senator Chris Dodd, unwittingly admited to bribery on Fox news.

?Those who count on quote ?Hollywood? for support need to understand that this industry is watching very carefully who?s going to stand up for them when their job is at stake. Don?t ask me to write a check for you when you think your job is at risk and then don?t pay any attention to me when my job is at stake,?

I think it really is time for an in-depth investigation to happen, this a blatant abuse of power, and its high time people like this were brought down from their ivory towers.

Here is a link to the White House petition.

Also, apparently this isnt the first time the white house has been petitioned to investigate Dodd.

Not surprising in the least. For all our claims of being a modern society, we still perform the same atrocious acts we did thousands of years ago.

I wanna sign this gosh darn petition, but I don't really wanna join a website to do this one thing and then never again. Is there another way? I would love it if there's another way. Chris Dodd needs to be taken down a notch!
Its the White House Website, they already have your information, this will help put a Federal Criminal under the lamp.

So what if you have to join just for this one thing. It takes very little time and you can show that fucker Dodd that you have a voice and he isn't as powerful, or influential as he thinks he is. This is the kind of mindset that DOESN'T get shit done!
Okay, I signed up and joined and then signed the petition.

Secondly if money was the only concern Sopa and Pipa would have already passed, but you know what? It didn't.
SOPA didnt pass because there WAS money coming in, from both sides. Google, facebook and other companies have already spend hundreds of millions in lobbying funds. This is exactly what the polititians wanted because until now they recieved nothing from such internet companies.

Just as a comparison, NDAA, which was by all accounts a horror upon the personal freedoms of all Americans passed. Why? Because only one side was funding it to be passed. Sure, everyone in the country was mortified and rallies were made but that makes no difference.

Washington doesn't even want SOPA to be passed because the position its in now means they have cash flowing in from all sides.

Money talks, freedom walks.

Vanity, vanity, all is vanity. There is nothing new under the sun. Most of the campaigns are paid for by large corporations anyway. The greatest pity is that Dodd cannot be unvoted from his position.

Does anyone have any information on how the law in the US actually stands on this issue? I mean, not gut feelings or moral views about the legitmacy of campaign finance, merely how the US (statute and case) law currently stands on the issue? More out of curiosity then anything else.

This shit is why there is a cap on donations to political parties in the UK :p

I hope he gets a review and the MPAA gets slated. Especially since its hardly uncommon knowledge that stuff like this happens in the US. Why would people donate such hug sums of money if not for preferential treatment.
The US does have a cap on donations. Groups just find various loopholes around it
To make matters worse, who do you think makes the laws about donations and such? Oh, the guys receiving them. It's like the fox deciding who guards the hen house.

Whoa. I have no problem with the ESRB. They are the best of the rating systems. The FCC isn't even a rating system, they merely regulate (read fine when old people complain about cursing on TV or the radio) broadcasters. Still, the FCC can die in a fire. And the MPAA is about as corrupt as it can get. "You want this movie to be rated R to sell better, but its barely PG-13? Okay, its R, now. This movie is R rated, but you won't be able to sell it to younger audiences? Okay, its PG-13, now."

So one of the guys behind SOPA/PIPA is actually involved in something worse than piracy?

I would call that ironic, but most people here had been suspecting that sort of thing already.
Its the Elephant in the room, most people already suspect that Politicians are living above the law, doing shit that would make people vomit in disgust. All the horrible shit that Dictators do in their own countries, its naive not to think that people in power arent doing these same acts, we just dont speak about it, because we refuse to believe the people that we elect are this horrible.

OT: Eh, I don't really think this guy is being bribed, I think he is just an idiot.
I have an untested hypothesis that the longer a person stays in power/rolls in money, the more idiotic they become. The term 'longer' is up for debate.

Still, I don't think the investigation will do much to SOPA and PIPA.
No, they dont become idiots, idiots dont keep rolling in power, they become detached of normal life and start indulging in illegal or morally questionable practices. In the end Power will always corrupt.

Every signature helps, the only thing you can be sure of, is that if you dont act, nothing will happen.
