Just a thought, because I for one do believe a rogue splinter group of Anonymous commited the attack against Sony. Anon proclaims it's innocence, but how can it when it has no power structure? More importantly, what is collective keeping Anon on the side of the just?

Who watches the watchmen?

I am not calling for Anon's destruction, I am just saying how can anyone of us trust the hive mind at it's word?

Um, we can't, since "anon" is pretty much anyone who feels like calling themselves that.

I think most people don't understand who anon is. Anon is literally anyone anonymous, they can't be lumped into a single organism.

Anon is Anon's Anon. If a good chunk of Anon pisses off the rest of Anon, then Anon will start a civil war with Anon that will probably stop the first chunk of Anon's attack.

The "We are legion" motto sums it up rather nicely.

The whole get blamed for the actions of few.

It's a hive mind race with no mind to do the hive minding.

Pretty much anyone and everyone can do anything under the banner of anonymous no matter what the rest of the group says.

Which is a really bad idea when it comes to groups that try to make serious political points.

And that's my point. Because they do, but at the same time they want us to take on face value that it wasn't them.

which begs the question HOW THE HELL WOULD THEY EVEN KNOW WHEN THEY ARE "LEGION"?!

I like them to a certain extent, especially with the recent actions they've taken, but with out some sort of check and balance system to keep them from flying off the handle I feel they're more a liability then their worth.

Then again, who the fuck are they? Anyone hacking could claim they are or are not part of Anonymous. Anonymous is no official organization. I'm not sure it's really possible for them as a group to do anything.

I've honestly never ventured into the lawless wasteland that is 4Chan.

Though this begs the question, why are we tolerating or even support Anon?

Personally, I think its one (or several) of SOE's pissed off IT guys that got laid off recently. The timing for a mass layoff and a catastofuck hack is just too coincidental. Then again, maybe it was just the perfect timing some random hacker was waiting for. /shrug

I just want EQ2 servers up again.

Wait... what...
EQ 2 servers are down?! WHAT IS THIS MADNESS?!!?!?

Because Anonymous is the human mind at play. Every bad thing and every good thing that "Anon" does is inside all of us.

Anonymous is pretty much humanity minus the morals that we impose upon one another.

(Not saying it's right, but that Anon will always be here as long as we are here.)

What else are you going to do? If Anon can't claim its innocence because it has no structure, then you can't really claim that it, as an "organization", is guilty for anything, either. Whether Sony labels the culprits as "Anon" or not, the deed is still done.

I imagine that if you like what Anonymous is doing, then you support them for the time being. Like its membership, your support doesn't have to be permanent or absolute for all of its activities. That's probably the easiest way to go about it.

I have the feeling Sony is pointing the finger at the wrong person, anyone who has read more than 2 articles about him would know that he would not say he didn't do it when it's something this big.

I don't think that many people really do support the concept of Anonymous.

And 'tolerate' implies we can do something to stop it. That's basically impossible.

You know Anonymous is a group right? And that there's no way to say for certain that group from Anonymous didn't do it. Besides with something like this, admitting they did it would lose them a substantial amount of support.

I do catch myself talking about him in the second person to much yes, but what I was in a (even when I read it now) very confusing way that if one of them pulled something off on this scale that he would probably want his cookie so to say. Atleast that's how I picture it.
