A lot of stereotypes were made up to slander the thing they are stereotyping, but the ones that really stick are the ones that get perpetuated by said group. If seeing is believing, then it's hard to not believe some of them. I live in a very multicultural city and have found some people in different cultures to just be general all-around assholes, regardless of their particular stereotype, but you'll notice a trend in that more than one of these types of people behave in this way.MGlBlaze said:Pretty much this.Tears of Blood said:Uhh...
Nobody, really. Though, I do make sure that people who DO fit into stereotypes know about it. ;]
Stereotypes are harmful and believe it or not, do NOT exist for a good reason. They are generalisations, and when you take things below the macro level, generalisations are almost universally wrong. It's like me comparing a person, to people; they are two distinct entities. It's why I despise the human race but I like individuals provided they don't fit into what I think of humanity in general, which can be easily avoided by simply being a good person.
For example... I live in Toronto... a lot of immigrants here will walk on the wrong side of the sidewalk, push people to get in and out of elevators and subway cars, cut in line, and I take a cab about once a week and have had 1 white cabbie in the 3 years I've lived here. How can you be against a stereotype when there's so much evidence to support them?
