Who are you in tabletop RPGs?

Now I've seen quite a few threads asking people what moral path they follow in video games, but at the end of the day it almost always just comes down to good or "evil", which doesn't really tell us much about the individual person. Tabletop RPGs on the other hand have a great deal more freedom because you can pretty much do and say whatever you want (not that it will end well of course). So here is my question, which cannot be answered by a poll: What are you/your character like in tabletop RPGs (provide as many or as few details as you like)?

Personally, I really try to play the kind, decent character, but I can never really keep that up for long before my insane side comes out and starts setting things on fire. I rarely end up being evil, but it seems like any plan of action that comes to my head is more than a little morally unsound. An example of this would be when I decided my D&D group's only course of action was to force a necromancer at sword-point to raise our cleric (whose corpse I had stored in a stone coffin) from the dead because I needed healing.

P.S. Is this in the right section? I wasn't sure if it would belong in Gaming or not.

I play all kinds of characters from Chaotic Neutral to Lawful Good. Haven't played an evil character yet, but I plan to eventually. As examples, I have played the selfless monk that is dedicated to pacifism and protecting others and the selfish sorcerer who uses cunning and deception to further his own agenda.

I don't think anybody would complain for the thread being here but it can also go in Gaming Discussion, I think. In fact, I'd like to have more TT RPG related stuff there. But whatever, I'll take my RPG threads wherever I find them.

OT: Well, I rarely play Good in D&D and subsequently in many other games. Also, I don't ay a lot of D&D. If I did, I'd love to play a Lawful Evil character. I actually did in my last 3.5 game (...two and a half years ago :( ...) and it was pretty good. He was a wizard who dabbled with the demonic despite the warnings of his teachers and managed to accidentally kill his entire academy (it was a very small one, though) with a botched summoning and binding attempt. He himself survived barely but decided to pursue the knowledge of the lower planes because he saw the pure power they had (unlike some lame summoned badgers and so on). He was otherwise unconcerned about petty morality, he followed a structured set of rules he had set up himself...which actually meant he was Evil.

But other than that, my other characters (aside from D&D) seem to be relatively normal people who are moral-wise decent, but circumstances could push them to do odd stuff. Some would even choose to do some bad or even horrible stuff for the greater good (whether it's actually "good" could be up for debate, though).

I had one old vampire who was atrocious by normal moral standards (Abyss mystic from old World of Darkness. He deals with a horrible incomprehensible dimension that houses things and may just as well be Hell) until he had a "revelation" and decided to protect humanity. Well, the protection was nowhere near short term - he wanted to let humanity survive after the apocalypse that would hit it. It didn't matter how much of it survived, though - he'd gladly sacrifice a city or a country. He'd even go as far as force the apocalypse to happen.

But he's probably the worst I had, the rest would be more caught up by the circumstances and/or by the lack or the wrong information they have. Ultimately, they wouldn't try to be bad, though. Well, aside from my Nosferatu who broke the kneekaps of petty thieves and drug dealers.

Having only played one campaign of D&D in my life (Still going on, but about to finish) I played the Chaotic good character. And I feel that it fits my character, so I feel like I'm gonna stick with Chaotic good with any other characters I played.

I play a vast range as I believe variety is the spice of life. I do keep a level of complexity with each character as I feel no character should be predictable.

This will sound weird, but I never played a pure PnP RPG before in my life [Hero Quest and similar games don't count for me].
A big problem is my friends don't want to play this specific kind of RPG. They prefer quick games to play.

My only recent hope to get into PnP RPG is with one group that play Conan RPG. They are still in Level 8-9, but I think I can get inside the game. Suggestions about the game?

I tried to play a satanist following child since the DM pushed me into a child position, then after that the kid got possessed and our ranger killed him. I got a new character [was happy] and the ranger guy got a new character [and he was happy].

Then afterwards I was forced into yet another role but I was a werewolf this time so it actually worked out. He was a thief and he did well.

I also created a gay half-elf bard and then left the group because we were moving.

I play a ton of different characters but try to add some kink to them to make them stand out.

It depends on the setting - in a setting I like with characters I like I'll play some shade of good, probably Neutral Good. In a setting I'm not so keen on I'll play Chaotic Neutral because I feel like spicing things up a bit.

I make a concerted effort not to play Chaotic Stupid though because it's a lot more fun if I do wacky stuff and have it all work out as planned, than if it fails horribly because it's being stupid.

I end up as the social scumbag. I've always believed that with enough points in bluff and the various knowledge's that you can blather your way out of most fights.

For example: I played a mountebank who worshiped Ashardalon and formed a cult of personality around himself. Then he used his underworld connections to etch out some territory for himself in the city we were in. The DM decided I was getting a little to heavy-weight for our level so he brought in a cult of Mammon with a level 20 necromancer as it's leader to start a turf war. I provoked him into using his powers in public then shagged ass back to a safehouse. From there I arranged a meet with all the heavy weights in the criminal underground for the city and several excellent diplomacy and bluff checks later I had formed an alliance because the rising dead and devil worshippers tend to be bad for business. After that I took on the persona of a scholar of arcane and divine lore and got an audience with the high cleric of Pelor. I convinced him that my studies had led me to believe that the recent actions of the cult of Mammon heralded a greater threat that required the might of the church to fight off.

In short, the DM ended up giving up and I got control of the city. Then he banned me from ever playing a character with a charisma stat above 16 ever again unless it was a Sorcerer.

Usually the guy who tries throws pizza at the actual players, cause I don't play most of the time, but when I do, I tend to be a holy type guy.

I'm pretty much always the GM/DM/Storyteller/whatevertheguymakingstuffupasthepartygoesalongwhilemakingallofitseemsplannediscalled. IF I play, I'm usually chaotic neutral and the second-in-command type character who tries to keep the group's leader from doing something stupid most of the time.

Well I recently found a group of people willing to play tabletop, but the idea just came up around 2 or 3 days ago and we didn't even decided the game yet, I did as for suggestions here [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.384172-Recommendations-for-a-Tabletop-game#15226479], but nobody answered, anyway I'm probably going to be the DM or however it is it's called in other games, but if I did play I'll probably pick the charismatic thief that can open and steal everything but is completely worthless at fighting, because I like to go non-combat and I hate it when I can't open something, that's pretty much it.

I tend to be the good-natured pragmatist who ends up feeling guilty about everything he couldn't possibly prevent. The kind of character who'll spend three turns trying to revive some guy who's obviously long past dead, while some hideous creature inches up behind him. The same guy who runs like the dickens when the party gets massacred save for him, rather than attempt to avenge them.

I'm still crawling my way through 3.5 DnD, trying my hand at different things. I do like melee classes, but I'm trying to get the hang of spell casters.

I made the terrible mistake of playing paladin as my first character through. I signed up to be a combat medic who was a devout believer in a good god; but I got so much more complication out of it. Don't get me wrong, I loved playing a Good character and the abilities I had, but I stressed so much about everything I did, and given the fact it was my first time gaming on tabletop, I stressed about whether I did EVERYTHING right.

Didn't help I played with a Dread Pirate and her lackey. I swear, the more I got into that game, the more I thought that the other players were either trying to piss me off or make me fall. I don't think I want to do it again for a LONG time... Being a barbarian or a fighter is so much simpler (mechanics wise).

I'm looking to try bard. That looks like fun.

I am the Dungeon Master, of course. I don't have the patience to stick with just one character the whole time. I would much rather be weaving an epic tale!

I'm either DMing or playing a real bastard. Not completely evil, but I'll do whatever I have to to get what I want.

I am Maeson Sinrend, elven paladin. Orphaned at a young age and then taken under the wing of an experienced paladin I learned all the was to know about the craft, I also learned that diplomacy is absolute and that an ear to words is better than a blade to a throat. Yeah, thats about it, without going into too much detail.
