Who cares if they are gay? Why isn't this just a favorite character thread? Why do you have to point out their sexual orientation, we are all just people in the end.

Marceline from Adventure Time because screw offended people.

Also my main character from New Vegas cause why not?

Everyone else is from Yaoi though, and thats too easy. Infact it bums me as a gay person that I cant think of many gay fictional characters outside things that are explicitly gay.

The first one I thought of was Johnny from Airplane!

If there was a hall of fame for great gay characters, I would have no problems with Willow & Tara and Wallace from Scott Pilgrim being in there.

Many of the characters I'd list have been named already. A couple that I haven't seen yet:

Hooker with a heart of gold type character who is genuinely clever and resourceful. Plus Kushiel's Legacy helped some friends and I discover and get comfortable with our various sexual "oddities" whether they be related to our orientation or kinks. Yeah, she's bi, but who cares? Definitely not heteronormative.

Lesbian DC villainess that ends up in a poly relationship in a way that's never really made a big deal of. Also the father/daughter dynamic she ends up in with Bane is oddly adorable.

Isn't this thread kind of dumb? Why should it matter to me if a character is homosexual or not if I like them? Maybe I'm just approaching this from the wrong direction, but a character is a favorite character to me if it's a well-crafted character. Whether it's a homosexual or heterosexual character doesn't enter into it. Characters whose personality seems significantly anchored to their sexuality are rarely good.
It matters because it's so rare that we see a gay character who has no personality apart from their sexual orientation, and no story apart from their friends or themselves coming to terms with it.

Did they ever confirm if Gale Boetticher from Breaking Bad was gay? He kinda had the vibe, and seemed like he might have had feelings for Walt. He's a perfect example of this, because gay or not, it wouldn't affect how tragic his story was. He's the character I have the most sympathy for or the show.

This question got answered already, but since I'm having trouble finding it, lemma take a shot at this.

OP's question is not about "who do you like because they're gay", but rather "who do you like that happens to be gay". As a fer'instance, you'll notice if you go back and read the rest of the thread (which I'm assuming you didn't) that one of the big picks so far is Dumbledore, who's sexuality only came up in an interview with the author, IIRC. Many of the other favorites are folks who are well-written, charismatic characters who's sexuality does not define them. They kick ass, they take names, and occasionally when they get a moment they kiss other dudes/chicks but that's their business.

OH HERE WE GO FOUND IT

Uh... I think you've got the wrong idea here. Like, entirely the wrong idea.

I never implied that being gay should be the overriding personality trait of characters that you like. In fact, I agree, if being gay was the ONLY personality they had, then they'd probably be pretty boring/stereotypical characters indeed.

But in my first post, I specifically said "Who are your favorite characters who also happen to be gay. I mean it like a description. Like if I had made a thread like "Who are your favorite blondes?" or "Who are your favorite hispanic characters?".
I hope that helped.

OT: I was a little worried going in, because I couldn't think of too many gay characters off the top of my head, let alone ones that I liked, (I came this close to saying Gold and Silver from Godhand) but going through the thread, I've got a few. First off, since he was mentioned already, Sander Cohen. Fort Frolic remains my favorite level in Bioshock, the first time I saw a white bunny mask in Bioshock 2 I got genuine nervous, and when I got Terraria on XBox I made a point of assembling a Sander Cohen costume as soon as I could. (Tuxedo + Bunny Hood, Ivy Whip optional, if you're curious) Secondly, Veronica from Fallout NV. She might not be the stone-cold murder machine that Boone is, but Boone don't make adorable happy noises when you give him nice clothes, either. Ungrateful prick.

Also, I've gotta give recognition to Leeron from Gurran Lagann (too lazy to spellcheck that). Dude kept all those big fancy robots up and running, and he did it heels. Simon may have been the muscle, but Leeron was the backbone. Wait, he's not explicitly gay, just effeminate... FUCK IT I'M STILL SAYING HE'S COOL

Ooh, last one's not really about liking the character (though I do,) but Corky from the movie Bound. Everyone remembers the lesbian sex scenes, but nobody remembers Corky's awesome thief gear, like the pearl-handled revolver or the lockpicks with earring hooks to take advantage of Corky's multiple ear piercings. Seriously, go watch Bound again, is good movie.
