3) Vincent - He has a gun, in a fantasy universe. That's pretty metal.
2) Golbez - He has probably the coolest armour in the series.
1) Basch - He is an escaped convict with a grudge on the empire which accused him, had to kill his best friend of comrade, and has to eventually join the empire he's been trying this whole time to get his revenge on. The real main character of Final Fantasy XII, if you ask me.

1. Terra (FFVI): FFVI is tied with VII for the title of my favorite Final Fantasy. One reason is Terra, I thought she had a good story and was a really likeable character. Plus by the time I beat the game she was doing more damage with both melee and magic than any of my enemies or allies could even dream of.

2. Sephiroth (FFVII): Yes, yes, go ahead and yell at me for picking a cliche but I have my reasons. As I stated before, FFVII is one of my top two FF games and I thought Sephiroth was the best character in the game. He was both a "do it yourself" kind of villain and a master manipulator at the same time. He never loses confidence in himself and I still hold up the last battles with him in the original game as being some of my favorite final bosses ever.

3. Vayne Solidor (FFXII): WTF? A character who nobody remembers at all? Yep, my third favorite FF character is the under appreciated Vayne Solidor from the under rated FFXII. I thought Vayne was an interesting character and his "big evil plan" actually wasn't so evil. In fact his actions actually helped the world in a way. He was a cool and calm character who knew how to appear polite and caring to people around him. Despite his cruel personality he also did care for his brother and wanted him safe even when he turned against him. Lastly Vayne can stand proudly with Sephiroth and Kefka for having one of my favorite series of final boss battles ever.

1. Black Mage from Final Fantasy 1 NES version - Epically Dressed. Perfect style.
2. White Mage from Final Fantasy 1 NES version - Keeps me alive every time.
3. Fighter from Final Fantasy 1 NES version - He can take a hit without fail.

What can I say, I love the first Final Fantasy game.

Heroes:

1)Zack: A very likable and down to earth guy who has such a strong and unwavering resolve. He can be a total idiot at times, but even then he is still likable and seeing him die just tears you up inside after spending the entire game bonding with him.

2)Terra: A strong female with a gentle side to her. A great mother figure, and despite her fears and doubts, she pushes on and fights.

3)Cloud: Oh how your good name has been sullied by fan and haters alike. Regardless of what people may think, he was an incredibly deep character who had a load of personal demons to confront. A traumatized and troubled individual who had to face up to his own self in order to move on from his past, face his adversary, and stop living the lie that he was. Just incredible; a shame most people are unwilling to sit down and look at him before judging these days.

Villains:

1) Kefka: The epitome of evil, down right fucking evil. A villain you hated, feared, and somewhat admired all at the same time. He had balls, and a lack of any sanity while still being a devious and plotting prick. Any redeeming qualities he may have had before he went mad are irrelevant given what he did. And he won, the bad guy won even in the face of his own demise and all he did was laugh at the irony.

2) Sephiroth: Just like Cloud, his good name has been tarnished over the years. He was a devious bastard, and a victim of circumstance. What made him so great was his mere presence; when he is first introduced, you don't see him but feel him. Without showing himself for quite some time, you feel and are shown his power, and how dangerous he is. Add in his mind fuckery and rather sympathetic past and he's deeper than a mere "mommas boy".

3) Golbez: The dude is pretty much Darth Vader, that alone makes him awesome. Another bad guy but really not, he turned out to be much more interesting later on. At first he is a dark, mysterious, and devious bad guy who manipulates things from the shadows but when in the spot light is no push over. He demonstrates his power and asserts his role as a bad guy with a lot of class. Then when the big shocking reveal comes, he's a conflicted soul and realizing the crimes he has committed, he has come full circle in the same manner as Cecil and strives to correct his mistakes. Even despite this, he maintains a dark demeanor because he feels that he cannot be redeemed so easily.

1) Barrett - 7
2) Balthier - 12
3) Kefka - 3/6 Whatever.

Where the hell is the love for Barrett? He's a giant black man with a gun for a hand! Did everyone forget that or something?

Actually, you know what, fuck it, I'm going to, for no apparent reason, list my three favourite characters from each game (that I've played)! (spoilers perhaps)

FFVI:
Shadow - come on, he's a ninja.
Kefka - an absolutely brilliant and horrifying villian.
Locke - he's just cool.

FFVII:
Vincent - dark past, deep character.
Reno - comic relief (in a good way) but a can be a serious character too.
Cid - the best Cid of the series in my opinion.

FFVIII:
Zell - even though he is annoying I really liked him for some reason.
Irvine - ladies man.
Laguna - lovable badass (but not really).

FFIX:
Vivi - it's Vivi.
Zidane - a very likeable character with an interesting back story. The "You're Not Alone" sequence is one of my favourites.
Amarant - never really knew how to pronounce his name. He's just cool as well.

FFX:
Auron - absolute badass powerhouse.
Rikku - one of the few female characters that don't annoy me (pre X-2).
Seymour - I loved the hate him.

FFXII:
Balthier - suave, charismatic.
Basch - was the original main character; should have remained the main character.
Vayne - for ages I didn't know whether he was a villain or not. The scene where he kills his father (I think) is awesome.

FFXIII:
Sazh - even though I never used him in battle when I didn't have to, still a fun character.
Fang - strong female.
....can't think of a third...

Sazh. He dual-wields pistols that turn into an assault rifle and has a cute little chocobo in his hair.
Auron. Like previous posts, just pure badass.
Vanille. She's the only who seems to be happy throughout FF13 while everyone else is all emo and grumpy. It's a nice refresher. But the scene with her and Sazh was crazy.

In dramatic reverse order, starting with 3 and going down to 1:

3. Zidane - Final Fantasy IX -

I haven't played too many FFs (compared to how many there are), but he's the most human FF hero I've found after getting most of the way through FFX, FFVII, FFVIII, FFX-2, FFXII, FFIX, and FF Tactics. He's the least dry of the offline Final Fantasy characters, and generally reacts to things as a real person would, which is becoming more and more rare in this series. I'd almost declare him a tie with Vivi, because Vivi was also very human in a much more subtle way. But Zidane's zeal wormed its way into my heart faster.

2. Professor Shantotto - Final Fantasy XI: Online -

This lovely lady comes from the forgotten bastard child of the Final Fantasy series known as Final Fantasy XI: Online. She is rambunctious, obnoxious, hilarious, and could blow an entire battlefield of opponents away whilst jubilantly laughing in their faces. And as an added bonus, she speaks almost 100% of the time in iambic pentameter (in other words, she rhymes. All the time). A truly juicy and glorious character that does not get enough recognition.

1. Minister Ajido-Marujido - Final Fantasy XI: Online -

My avatar probably already gave this one away. I LOVE this guy. To put it simply: his balls are made of solid steel. Seriously. He's gutsy, quick-witted, sarcastic, loyal, and doesn't let silly things like laws or forbidden magics get in the way of what he wants. But underneath all of that, he is sympathetic and caring. A perfect balance of confidence and power, with a nice, even layer of sarcasm on top. A character that never gets old. Plus, he's got some awesome glasses.

definitly gotta break it up into slots

Heroes:
1) Zack- such a likable courageous character, if you haven't played crisis core i would recommend it just for him.

2) Vincent - I just love the way he acts, the way he does things just give me a slight grin every time i play games involving him. his limit is also sick as fuck too.

3) Zidane - love the pep of this guy, funny, brave, has a good heart with some personality among his decisions. he'd be one of the top two people i'd be if i were a ff character.

honorable mention to cloud, just because i think his struggle to continue on was pretty epic and i had never been so happy to destroy sephiroth with him as a character. plus bigass sword plus his attire is badass imo

Villains:

1) Sephiroth - well first off, his fucking theme song is epic, i listen to that shit all the time, and besides that i think he is pretty fucking badass with that long ass sword of his, in kingdom hearts i was so adrenaline pumped played against him it was a major mind fuck going against this guy, and the cutscene with him burning down clouds hometown was pretty epic.

2) The judges - i can't sum out a certain one, but one cutscene where they are all walking out..i remember dropping my mouth going "fuck...bad.ass." i think they really didn't use the potential of how badass these characters could have been. but they are still some of my favorites.

3) garland - his plan was just amazing and i really respected him as a villain, nuff said.

honorable mention - kefka, this guy..the way he looks and everything, it just isn't appealing or scary at all. it totally throws him into negatives for appeal, although his actions are pretty ridiculous and he does actually win technically...so for pure psychotics he is a defining villain but still he doesn't cut it personally to me

Plain and simple, which characters (heroes, villains, etc.) do you like the most, and why. To start off, my top 3 are:

1) Auron (FFX): Going by my username and avatar, this should be obvious. There are multiple reasons I love this character, first and foremost, he is literally the personification of badassery, yet he doesn't flaunt it about. He is also always calm and collected, never acting rash (save for the flashback conversation between him and Yunalesca, but that is completely understandable) and falling into the general characteristics of the berserker/warrior class. His age and mentality is also a nice break from the "too hyper, perky, and usually annoying teenager" staple characters, acting as the rightful mentor to the next generation. And finally, he is a character that doesn't let grievous injury (he made it halfway across the CONTINENT all alone after the previously mentioned conversation), or even death stop him from being awesome.

2) Kefka (FFVI): Few villains get under my skin as well as this man did. He was a rare character that I could both genuinely praise, as well as loath with all my being. Not only did he play the role of the narcissistic psychopath perfectly, he also succeeds in being an actual villain by pulling off many of his horrific plans (that are typically prevented by the heroes in other games) and actually getting me to start thinking like and agree with him. His "clown from hell" appearance also helps to draw a much needed reaction from the player (not just the other characters) whenever he shows up, making it that more frustrating when he wins, but so much more exhilarating when he's taken down.

3) Vivi (FFIX): This kid truly made it feel like I (or at least a younger version of myself) was actually involved in the story. The young black mage's personality almost perfectly fit what mine used to be, which made what happened to him that much more emotionally intriguing; I just wanted to root and cheer for this kind, timid child the whole time. I was on the erge of crying to hear that, being a prototype for artificially created mages, such a boy was ultimately built to bring about war and had a preset life duration. Despite learning about that shocking truth, though, it was heartwarming to see him basically give a middle-finger to his creator's "destiny" and forge his own albeit with some setbacks.
I was going to list my three... but these are the same ones, in the same order. Way to make it easy for me.
