Steve Conte.

Considerably obscure name (except among the anime-music-addict community), but he has his own NYC band (The Crown Jewels/The Contes), has done work with Yoko Kanno (who composed the music for Cowboy Bebop, Wolf's Rain, and Ghost In The Shell: Stand Alone Complex, among TONS of others), and is currently the lead guitarist and backup vocalist for the New York Dolls.

Spoiler: This song is utterly heartbreaking, but his vocals are beautiful.

Spoiler: And on the other hand, this one's more upbeat.

Of people who are better known? Johnny Cash, Rufus Wainwright, Damon Albarn... and John McCrea of CAKE.

EDIT: Well diddle my dog, how could I forget about Frank Sinatra? Ol' Blue Eyes has perhaps the smoothest voice EVER.
