I'm trying to make a list of all the people I admire and it isn't as easy coming up with names as I thought, so I could use your help.

Who do you admire?

You don't have to say why, but a little explanation would be nice =)
Feel free to post lots of people or just one.

Well, the only people I've ever really admired or idolized have been sports coaches (Basketball, football, trainers, etc.), because they've been the closest things to parental figures I've really experienced. The ones I've had have always never let me quit, and to this day, are still good friends with me.

Hitchens, Dawkins, their opinions on religion are similar to mine.
Carl Sagan, do I really need to say why?

Do you admire Hugh Laurie Mr. OP? Or House, who technically doesn't exist?

I admire the ever-glorious and ever-gregarious Stephen Fryyyyy (angel chorus of course), and my life's ambition is to meet him and get a picture of myself with him.

My father, and my grandfather. My grandfather did nothing but help me, and my father has done more for me in the last six months than most people have done for me over the course of my life. I think that's reason enough.

'pologies.

Eeemmm, you don't know him, but his name is Dan and he's my best friend. I admire him, because he's like everything that I ain't although we still have a lot in common.
I guess I admire him, because he treated me like his protege, and I considered him to be the older brother I never had.
I also admire dead people(poets), because I feel that my teen soul has a lot in common with their own twisted, poor lives(e.g. un-admired geniuses).

It's mostly writers for me. From the ones who are still alive:

Cormac McCarthy for Suttree, Blood Meridian and The Road.

Guy Gavriel Kay for Tigana.

Orson Scott Card for the Ender series.

Stephen King for The Shining, Dead Zone and Bag Of Bones.

Dean Koontz for Odd Thomas and Phantoms.

Many more, but I'll stop here.

I greatly admire a very dear friend of mine who has been struck with several nasty illnesses sequentially, causing her to be unable to be cope with even the most basic day-to-day life from a physical perspective. She had to quit her job and can't even go grocery shopping on her own any more.

Pain keeps her bed-locked for most of the day, yet she still finds the strength to help her family out and support her friends with their own little problems.

This. I had a baseball coach in high school who coached me for 3 years and he was easily the best baseball coach I have ever had. He was great because he would joke around with us, but when it was time to focus he demanded our focus. I don't think there was anyone on our team that didn't respect him.

I remember one time during practice during summer baseball, one of my teammates was talking about how he found a four leaf clover in the field and my coach was annoyed because he wasn't paying attention and he yells "Shut up you four leaf clover fuck!" The rest of the team, including me, burst out laughing for a good 5 minutes.

Thou shalt not question Stephen Fry.
He did school Speech Day last year. Unfortunately I didn't win the Greek prize, which would probably have caused me to implode.

OT: I also admire Ian Hislop and his predecessors at Private Eye. It takes guts to do what they do.

Everyone who was ever in Black Flag. That level of sheer determination, hard work and whatever-it-takes attitude to get their music heard is rare in a person, let alone several.
