Many of us base our lives on Historical Figures, Some even try to imitate their mannerisms, Who do you most admire?
For me it is this man.

Nikola Tesla was the true creator of the lightbulb, He made a death ray and was suspected to be responsible for the Tunguska Experiment (Explosion One Thousand Times more powerful than Nuke).
Also, He possibly has the Coolest Name ever.
EDIT: WOO 400th POST, GO ME!!

A Hermit's Cave
der Kronprinz von Preussen Friedrich
(apart from the whole smoking thing)

There are others, but I'm digging the whole Wars of German Unification thingy right now.

People will shout at me and go "ohhh he isn't really that inspirational! ...or even historical!," but for me... Matt Groening.

Yes he's the guy who created the Simpsons and Futurama, but for me, his work on Life in Hell is unparalleled and unflinching, biting social satire at its best. Plus, you have to admit... he has one hell of a beard...

Or, Voltaire. Voltaire is good too.

No one really.

Sure, there are a lot of historical figures that I admire, but not enough for me to base my life around. When I'm confronted with a problem I never think to myself, "What would Sjimon bar Kochba do?"

Abraham Lincoln.

He was by no means perfect. Nobody is. But he was an incredibly strong leader, a brilliant speaker and writer, and had the courage to make the tough decisions necessary to preserve the Union despite criticism, and to respond to that criticism while affording his critics respect and dignity and not losing his own. IMO, and in the eyes of many, he was the greatest president the US has ever had, and as perfect a man for the job as one could have at that turbulent time in American history. I could only wish to have the leadership and communication skills he possessed.

Hahahaha, no he wasn't. My family lived under the entirety of his rule and things were definitely not cool right from the word go.

To answer the OP, I probably look up to my parents and grandparents, that's about it.

If people who are still alive count: Ayaan Hirsi Ali.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ayaan_hirsi_ali

After all the terrifying & messed-up things she's experienced she's still willing to go on national TV & say things a lot of muslims will wanna kill her for.

I'd say Newton. Virtually everything we take for granted in the modern world is, in one way or another, thanks to his works.

Well, I don't really 'look up' to anyone, but the historical figure who I have the most respect and admiration for would be Anuerin Bevan.

For one, he was a working class man who ended up becoming Minister of Health. Second, he was a true left winger, unlike the foot shuffling pansies we've got today. He opposed high expenditure on defence, including nuclear weapons(a view I share). And most importantly of all he fathered the NHS, which is one of the few things I can be proud of in Britain today.

Without him the country would be in a worse place, for sure. :)

I'm pretty sure he was always a douchebag.

OT: Imnil Hathay, the man credited with the first scientific proof and the discovery of optics as a science. He basically outlined the scientific method.
