Who do you Save?

I heard this question the other day in my philosophy class and what at first seemed like a harmless conversation starter slowly became an all out philosophical brawl. I now pose this question to, members of the Escapist, and ask: who do you save?

The question goes as thus: You are a government leader who is aware of an impending nuclear war, and is faced with the decision of who to save. Their is only one fallout bunker capable of escaping the radiation (just go with it), and it only has enough food for 3 months, which is how long the radiation is supposed to last, and 6 people total. Keep in mind that these people that are in this vault may be the last humans and must reinhabit the vacant Earth. You have a list of 10 people to choose from...
1) A male Librarian
2) The Librarian's wife, who is 6 months pregnant
3) An Olympic male Athlete (for arguments sake, of all sports)
4) An elderly male, famous historian
5) A renowned female starlet (dancer, actress, singer, songwriter, etc)
6) A college co-ed
7) A second year medical student
8) A police officer
9) A rabbi
10)A biochemist

So now it is entirely up to you... Who do you save? Only 6 people can survive, meaning 4 people have to die.

well its more of a philosophical question as opposed to just, "who can produce babies". Think about what their jobs or ideals could contribute to a completely new world.

I don't particularly like society.
That said, there are people I'd save, just none of those listed.
Unless of course, my friends and family fell under any of those categories.

2) Librarians wife
3) Olympic Athlete
4) Historian
6) College co-ed (who im assuming is female)
7) Second year medical student

My main concern would be repopulation. The Librarian and his Wife are obviously capable of having children so they would be a must, plus she is already pregnant. The Olympic Athlete and the co-ed could hook up as well (yes I know thats a blunt way to put it). The Historian would be good to help piece history back together after the disaster. The Medical student would be vital since everyone else would have too little experience with such things if there was an emergency.

Part one: Society couldn't continue without sex. We could have a brilliant team of all males, but we'd die out. We need women.

Next, yams. Need to know the size of the women's breasts so we could tell who would be a good wet-nurse for the babies.

The Medical student would be vital since everyone else would have too little experience with such things if there was an emergency.

I'd say (1 or 8),2,4,6,7 and 10. Since the rabbi can store the Torah(I think) in the bunker, so his teachings survive. The police officer... or the librarian, it would depend on the thoughts of them and the librarians wife. The Olympian because I never thought that sports were all that important, they're games. And the starlet, same as the Olympian. It would be a boring 3 months though...

1,2 - Of course the librarian and his wife... easy to presume that they are both intelligent and we could benefit from them breeding in the new world. She has even started already, so in she goes.

3 - The male Athlete. We will need workers too, and this guy breeding with someone else couldn't hurt.

4 - The famous historian. Sure he's old, and can't really help much, but hell. People like to know their roots, and this guy could keep them happy in that aspect.

7 - Now these last few don't say a gender, so I will assume female. A person with medical training will come in handy when living off the destroyed land.

8 - Half and half. Intelligent, and also useful.

Hed be a better breeding partner. You have to think about the fact that these peoples children have to rebuild the earth. And after they left the bunker he would be the best suited to build other shelter or move supplies. I thought about the Biochemist too, but theres not much he can do either in a sealed bunker and with little or no equipment.

Well History is written by the winners and the Historian is on his last legs. So no to the Historian.

The Male Librarian and his Wife. History may be written by the winner but I sure as hell don't want to organize it. So he gets to be it and his wife is already a fertile female. Besides, breaking up the couple would be a dick move.

The Policeman, Biochemist, and Med Student get to come too. Fit and orderly thinker, a scientist, and a medically trained person. Assuming the cop isn't a loser fat guy, these are obvious choices. If the cop is a loser, Olympian gets to come.

If the coed is female, I chose her over the Starlet. If not, tough shit, the starlet since we need help with breeding. If the coed is a philosophy major, I'll go with the Starlet. I love Philosophy but hate Philosophy majors with a burning, sword waving passion.

Not necessarily, it's all due to conditioning really. They could very well have an obese child, not to mention that we'll looking at a long time in the vault as well. He'd be dead by the time the vault opened, just like you would be. Plus he'd be a competitor for you when it comes to teh secks.
