Les Paul. As the good Captain already stated.

I'll toss in Brian May. As a youngin', he built his own guitar, for crying out loud. And it still works!

Oh believe me I'm not disagreeing with you. A lot of bass players, even in popular bands these days do absolutely nothing. That's why its hard to hear them sometimes- either because they suck or somebody recording or mixing the song has a crush on the guitarist.

Stevie Ray Vaughan, Hendrix, and Santana. Although, if you look at it from a creative perspective, I'd almost have to say Tom Morello.

Tom Delonge? Really? I mean not to be a dick, but the guy is, well, boring. Repetitive and generic with the same basic progression on every song. Angus Young suffers from the same problem, they both tend to just use the same progression and beat it into the ground..
