1. You're watching 22 grown men running around a pitch kicking a ball about.
Well it's 2 teams competing. To a set of rules. With an objective. It's almost like some kind of entertaing game.
2. There's easily more better, fun(and important)things you can do for 90 minutes, have sex anyone?
You can say that about anything. What a waste of a sentence! Would be interesting to hear what else would add to this list though.
3. I don't feel an "emotional" attachment for people I don't know who get paid gazillions for doing something a child could do, albeit alot better.
When Arsenal score my brother practically jumps and whoops for joy, my uncle is even worse, luckily they haven't both been in the same room yet, thank god.
You can also say that about a lot of things. Why do people cheer when they see a band play live? Why do people sing, dance and cheer in some churches? If you have a collection of people who share a passion for something then I think a little noise is unavoidable.
Something a child can do? Like the Olympic 100m was a waste of time this year because my little nephew learnt how to run the other day and its far more interesting watching that.
4. Fights fans get into over football are stupid and childish, do you think the team you support gives two shits? Really? Do they? No, they don't, it's all about the money.
In any hobby or passion you find this. Microsoft/Nintendo/Sony anyone? I personally will find myself raising my voice if anyone tries to tell that The Killers make amazing music. If you love something you will attach an irrational amount of effort to defend your favourite part of it. It comes from passion for it, and it will always sound childish because these are fights that can't be solved as they are based on unchangeable prefrences.
5. I never understood why some people say "It's never about the football now, it's about the money". Since when was it about anything else? You're talking about football as if it's a way of life or something important. And since when were footballer reliable role models? I would much rather look up to someone who actually contributes to the community and does something significant, what do footballers do? You guessed right, they kick balls about, what a great role model for our kids. Not.
a)So you honestly think football has always been a multi million kind of deal? It wasn't always. Yes it is now, but this happened over a long number of years. The reason is nearly everyone in the world loves football and there is pressure on the teams to do what ever it takes to keep winning and entertain their fans, therefore making more money. This means signing the best players and keeping hold of homebred talent. Over the course of 50 years, this has inevitably meant that the amount of money has gone up. It doesn't really matter, it still comes on the TV, and it doesn't lower my respect for the footballers. To perform at the level professionals perform at takes enormous sacrifice. It's not like they just decide to become a pro and get handed millions of pounds for that decision, its more like the millions are the reward for the success they have achieved.
b)I don't know you but I guess you have never been a part of a sports team. When you are a kid, it teaches the values of teamwork, friendship, dedication, hardwork and developing your skills. It's not just kicking a ball. Also give the kids a break. They look up to people who entertain them. If girls like Britney Spears then boys can like Beckham. And I'm sure they look up to policemen and firemen, etc. Give them some credit!
6. Wouldn't it be better to actually play football? Rather than sit down with a six pack of beer and watch it? Surely no wonder so many people are obese, instead of wanting to go out and have a kick about with friends which could benefit your health you would rather sit at home and watch the game on tv. you could be doing so much more in those 90 minutes.
The guys on the TV are professionals and they do things on the pitch with a football that just isn't really achievavble in the park on a pitch a quater the size of a professionala one, with smoking, beer drinking, TV loving lazy mates. That doesn't stop millions of people going to the playing in the park, playing at school, playing on Sunday teams, then chilling out in the evening and watching how the best do what they love. Also there are a lot of people who just can't play football for shit, but enjoy watching the game. Just like people can't draw or paint, but enjoy going to art galleries.
7. Atmosphere. This word gets chucked in my face so many times(2974 times including today now)and is the word used to describe the euphoria of watching a football match. They say if you can't beat them join them so I watched(well tried to watch)a game. I picked a team to "support", check, beer(even though I hate it), check, load, rowdy bunch of friends, check, remote, check, HD TV, check, let's begin.
15 minutes in and I'm asleep, I can't do it, I can't hack it, I don't know how people go through this shit, seriously.
If you were in a room of friends with beer and you fell asleep that says a lot about you! It's not like we don't talk to each other when we watch games with friends. But also, you just don't like football. That's cool! I'm sure most football could pointlessly dissect whatever you have a passion for and it would boil down to a)they don't really understand it, b)they would make sweeping generalistions about it and c) it wouldn't change mind about it anyway.
I'm not jealous of footballers, kudos to them earning millions for something everyone can do.
Again this point. They are athletes, and frankly the only poeple who can do what they do are other professional footballers. I mean have you run for 90 minutes before? Have you actually run for an hour and a half? Pass, cross and shoot a ball consistently over the period with pin point accuracy? Sprint of in pursuit of someone blazing for goal then courageously tackle them? Sure 'everyone' can give this a go, but put 'everyone' against the pros and they would fall flat on their arse.
football is gravely overrated.
In your poorly expressed, generalised and biased opinion.
I feel they should do a study like those ones where it says "We spend such and such time of our entire lives in bed" or something like that except entitle it, "Such and such of our entire lives is spent sitting in front of a tv watching two teams kicking a ball about and actually thinking that those playing care about you", I would donate money to have them conduct a survey on that.
And how much do you spend watching any old shit on the TV and playing videogames? Also do you honestly think that a football fan gives a crap whether a football player cares about them? Of course not. If anything it works the other wat round because if a player performs badly they will know about it from fans of their team, and it could affect their career.
P.S. I understand the off-side rule so don't try to be a smart ass.
I bet you don't understand the intricacies of setting up a play that would cause your opponents to be off side, or the amount of skill it takes for a team to cross the ball and have a striker run into space to receive it without being offside.
I think it's interesting how much aggression you seem to have against something you clearly have no interest in. Maybe it's the sense of being left out that has upset you so much?
