i mean, it's not like i was full out balling and weaping. usually just a single tear or something. still very demasculinizing for a 20 year old male, considering these are fucking cartoons >.>
i still think pixar needs to give up this kids movie charade. their movies contain way too many political and adult messages, and other shit that 99% of 10 year olds can not begin to comprehend.
I wouldn't really call it a charade. There movies are definitely good for children to watch. They just aim to please the whole family. And for that, I commend them.
Parents often try to please their children, and take them to movies. And if I had to take my kids to a movie, I'd want it to be one that i could enjoy watching as well. So many kids movies made nowadays lack the depth to make it enjoyable to anyone older than a small child. But with Pixar, the child can be happy as well as the adults. It's a great balance.
Also, when you think about it from a business standpoint, selling things to children is a great way to make money. Parents will spend money on their kids for more things than themselves (usually). So by gearing their movies to children's enjoyment, Pixar gains a better profit because those children can't go to the movies without adult supervision. Thus higher ticket sales. But Pixar also recognizes that if their movies are enjoyable to adults as well, they can make an even greater profit in two ways. First, the parents are more likely to actually go see the movie with their children because they know that it won't be a painfully obnoxious experience. And secondly, by making the movie decent for adults to watch on their own, it increases the range of people buying tickets purely because they want to see the movie themselves (as can be seen by all the 20ish year olds on this post taking about watching the movie)
My wish is that more companies would pick up on what Pixar is doing, and make higher caliber movies for all ages. Where can that go wrong?
