Since a lot of these threads are about video-gaming, I thought I'd mix it up and ask about trading card gaming, specificaly Magic. So here you can discuss deck strategies, what your favourite cards are, tournaments, that sort of thing.

I'll kick things off with the simple question of what colours you play (I play red, black and white).

So, fire Lightning Bolt away.

EDIT: If you want, feel free to list entire decks if they work well together, it might be useful to share strategies

I played MTG for a bit. It's really fun. I was all about Green/Blue, ramping up mana and control spells ftw although i must say i was never that good at it.

Lost touch with it now as it's expensive to keep up with the new sets and i don't have a lot of time or money for it since having a child.

A shame... as i said it IS so much fun.

i play with some other fellows who dont buy cards anymore, my favorite decks are a white equipment deck that can turn into a life deck. my other one is a black/red deck from mirage.

i have so many cards that i usually just give them away for free to people who are interested in playing.

I only play with friends, don't have the money or the interest to buy cards from the new series. But it can be fun and it gives you something to do when you sit and talk.

I played many moons ago, but it was kind of an expensive hobby and I was young. Type 2 is such a genius way to suck money of out kids every few months when you release a new set, and once a whole block rolls out of rotation, god help you.

Still, a fun game, and I did really enjoy it. I've really gotten into Duels of The Planeswalkers although I wish that you could just build a deck yourself.

I've got an awesome black deck that my dad and I made (I don't play anymore) and a really fast red deck.

I love Magic

Just bought 4 Pacifisms really cheap on ebay, since my friend keeps using them against me and I need more ways to disable his Blightsteel Colossus. Also have 4 Red Sun's Zeniths on the way

I was tempted, but as with all card games I'd like, nobody plays them where I live. Seriously, I've never once met any person who plays any kind of card game in real life.
Save for pokemon when I was about 12.

I played for a few years, eventually sold all of my cards, and then later started getting into it again with the 2011 Core Set. Built a neat little Red/Blue deck based around card draw and creatures that deal direct damage with abilities (deal the damage to enemy creatures rather than your opponent to keep the board under control; it's an Aggro-Control deck); I still have it, but I stopped buying cards when I learned that another Artifact block was on the way. I hated Mirrodin the first time, and as the saying goes, "fool me once, shame on you?"

EDIT: Know what else was crazy, but in a way I really liked (in a junk food-ish, "I wouldn't want to see too many more mechanics like this," sort of way)? Slivers.

I've got a Green/Black Lorwyn/Shadowmore (elves and scarecrows) deck, a Green/Red/Black Shards of Alara (Dem'Dragons!)deck, and a Black/White deck with a little bit of everything in it. Not much of a blue fan, though I really like some of their cards. Trying to decide what to do for Scars of Mirrodin now that its out, but I am having trouble making up my mind. I'd also love an Eldrazi deck (I love the fluff), but it simply doesn't mesh with my playstyle.

Of the group, my G/R/Bla is my favorite. Its actually pretty similar to the one in Duels of the Planeswalkers, but I've more goblins in there than they do. I'm a Vorthos through and through, and sadly I'm more interested in building decks that I find thematically cool than are tourney viable. Probably for the best, I've seen some of those decks and they are crazy.

I play all the time, but just with friends. We try to get together about twice a month specifically for magic. I usually play mono black or blue. I've got an annoying Megrim deck. My blue is mostly for milling, but it isn't fast enough to be really effective. Shame too, since it's one of my favorites.

I used to play it a ton years ago. Unfortunately, I just don't have as much time as I used to. I had a junk job of customer service and was able to sit and deck build in my cubicle in between calls. I played with a group and played in single vs. I even played in a sealed deck tournament one time but lost horrendously in the first match.

As far as my own decks, I had a brutal mono black deck and a 5 color deck that was unstoppable.

I've been playing the version on XBLA and while it is a nice recreation of the game with really pretty graphics, the lack of a deck builder is depressing. A huge part of the game is coming up with your own strategies and outsmarting your enemies. I hope one day they offer some DLC that allows you to deck build.

I agree, after an FNM game I change my deck loads. Last week I played a red & black deck with one planeswalker and was mostly infect with 12 swamps, 12 mountains and a Blackcleave Cliffs. Now I play red/black/white (8 swamps, 8 mountains, Blackcleave Cliffs, 4 Plains and 4 Terramorphic Expanses), with 2 planeswalkers and will be adding more cards that are on the way (hopefully with a third planeswalker)
