By "be with" I actually mean have a meaningful and romantic relationship that may or may not end with marriage or some equivalent. Obviously this is a hypothetical question and should be assumed that the fictional game/anime/etc character is standing in front of you in flesh and blood.

Me, I wouldn't even date a real girl, I'm bi male pref >___> Plus I'm taken so being with anyone else real or fictional would be hard and make me more than a bit guilty.

Can my fictional person be the girl I'm in love with IRL who has no attraction to me whatsoever, only have her attracted to me?

If so, then her. If not...

I guess I'll just keep longing...

The trouble is trying to transfer the image of a fictional girl to real life; I usually end up imagining that I am walking down the street with a cardboard cut out so I stay away from that kettle of fish.

Yes. I'd take either the personification of the night, or the moon. Or someone who likes to hang on top of rooftops like I do.

I think i'd be open to the idea of a girl who owns more video games than me and makes milkshakes in her stomache which I could then open like a fridge and drink.

I think that there are plenty of girls I would fall for in various media, however i do kind of hope to find that girl one day who works for me and is real. I've been down that 'dwell on what you can't have' path. Boy it sucks.

Hells yes. Game designers put effort into making women look freakishly good (to them, real women are beautiful etc. etc.) so I'd love to go out with a semi perfect woman. Not sure which in particular, mainly because I don't watch much anime.

Just remember nerds, if those videogame girls somehow came to life and were looking for love, you'd still have the disadvantage of being an inept nerd with confidence issues, bad posture, low fitness, social retardation and/or excessive bodily fat. Chances are, they would choose some meathead, even if the story demanded they fall for the sensitive bookish type.

It's understandable why gamers in general would declare their undying love for a fictional character and imagine that, were she real, she would totally want the gamer in question and would devote the rest of her unnatural life to him, as gamers do tend to be social mutants who have trouble interacting with the rest of the populace. But it doesn't make it any less... sad.

Harsh, but funny and pretty true. I'm just glad I don't fit into any of those categories (I'm the singer for the band in my profile) :) But I know plenty of people who fit them exactly.

I never find myself attracted to fictional characters because there's always something unreal about them. The ones you're supposed to be attracted to are always fawning over you like some mindless zombie or they're so vapid and shallow they might as well be inflatable. And the ones who are supposed to be brooding and mysterious are usually laughable.

Alyx from HL2 is the closest we've had that's fairly believable, but even she has a bit of stereotypical geek fantasy about her.

Well, any girl who'd go out with me would have to be fictional.

Nerd emoism aside, I suppose it would depend on who both parties are, wouldn't it?

Heh, wanting something and believing it's true are two different things. Most of us, hopefully, aren't that delusional.

I don't know what the hell is this thread about, but I think some of you guys should go out more. Falling in love with a fictional character = epic fail@life
Tell that to the guy who wanted to marry a cartoon character! .. Or something that was drawn anyway.

How non-fiction can we go?

Like is a programmed, apparently human, girl 'fictional'? If its just a character I can't physically interact with then no, what's the point?

Hmm. Being with a fictional char in flesh and blood, apart from being wonderfully oxymoronic... no thanks. The interesting ones would just be human, so what would the point be? And the fantastically supernatural ones might be fun for a while, but meh.

Me, I have a fiancée that is kind, loving, caring and who jealously protects her "turf", which is to say, me. However, being from a bit further east than the western women I have met, her way of doing this is to make me want HER rather than to guilt-trip me for wanting someone else. Makes her reasonably "fictional" to most western men, I think. There are many fictional babes I'd happily bone 'till their eyes fall out, but a relationship? Rather not, and probably not even if I was single in the first place.

I always fall in love with people in books or games or movies, so yeah, sure. Ordinary people are so boring.
